DU holds 'Gha' unit admission test
Dhaka University (DU) on Saturday held the admission test of the 'Gha' unit under the Faculty of Social Science for the 2021-22 academic session.
The test was held at designated examination centres across the eight divisions of the country. The test began at 11am for a duration of one-and-a-half hours.
"This year, we decided to hold the exams in all eight divisions of the country to minimise the sufferings of the candidates and their parents," said DU vice-chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman after visiting an exam center of Social science faculty building.

"Social Science faculty dean Prof. Dr. Zia Rahman coordinating the unit exam and vice-chancellors of the respective universities are helping us in this regard. I was told that the exams were held smoothly," he said.
Asked about QS University ranking position, he said, "We have no attention on ranking. We want to improve the quality of education, expand the field of basic research and the parameters of ranking in the international arena like research, foreign students, foreign teachers, the overall learning environment, the quality of life of students and we need to address it soon."
He said, "If we can build a university in the light of all these indicators, then the place of our expectations in the international arena will be clearer. It is very difficult to expect good ranking position improving the parameters that are used for ranking."

59 students are competing for every seat of social science faculty as 78,045 students have applied for 1,337 seats in 'Gha' unit under the faculty of Social Science.
'Gha' unit exam is a group changing exam in which students of all groups (Science, Commerce and Arts) can participate.

DU goes for reducing seats for first-year undergraduate students
The Dhaka University on Monday decided to cut down the seats for undergraduate first-year students from 2021-22 academic session, authorities said.
The tests for D Unit will also be abolished from the next academic session as part of the university’s plan to reschedule the number of seats.
The decisions were taken at a special meeting of the General Admissions Committee held at Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate building.

The decisions came considering the national and international requirements as wells as capacity and capability of Dhaka University.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md. Akhtaruzzaman presided over the meeting attended also by Pro VC (Administration) Prof. Muhammad Samad, Pro VC (Education) Prof. ASM Maqsood Kamal, Treasurer Prof. Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed, faculty deans, chairpersons and director of different institutes.
At a meeting on January 14 the Deans Committee recommended reduction of over 1,000 seats in a move aimed at optimum utilisation of the manpower of the country’s largest university and improve quality of education.
Dr. Samad said, "We have decided not to keep the D unit anymore. Today's meeting approved the decision but It will be finalized at the next Academic Council meeting.”

DU holds Cha unit admission test
Dhaka University on Saturday held the admission test of the Cha unit under the fine arts faculty for the 2020-21 academic session.
The test was held in eight divisional cities across the country. The test began at 11am for a duration of 30 minutes.

DU Vice Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman, pro-VC (administration) Prof Dr Samad, pro-VC (administration) Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal visited a number of exam centers.
This year, 115 students are fighting for a single seat.
From October 1, DU started conducting its admission tests through a unit of the Science Group.

DU admission tests at all divisional cities from Oct 1
Dhaka University (DU) will begin admission tests for the 2020-21 academic session at eight divisional cities including Dhaka from October 1.
The admission tests will be held in Dhaka and in seven public universities in the other divisional cities, aiming to save time and money of the admission seekers.
Vice-Chancellor Professor M Akhtaruzzaman made the announcement at a virtual press briefing.
"We have taken all the preparations to hold the admission tests smoothly. We will bring all the centres under strict surveillance to prevent any forgery this year," he said.
On average, 45 students will fight for a seat as a total of 3,24,030 admission seekers applied for 7,148 seats this year.
Of them, 1,17,956 seekers applied for 'Ka' unit (Science group) against 1,815 seats; 47,632 for 'Kha' unit (Humanities group) against 2,378 seats; 27,347 for 'Ga' unit (Commerce group) against 1,250 seats; 115,881 applied for 'Gha' unit (Combined group) against 1,570 seats and 15,496 for 'Cha' unit against 135 seats.
There are now 60,000 seats in 39 public universities across the country.

Cluster admission tests: Application process begins April 1
The application process for cluster admission tests at 20 universities for the 2020-21 academic year begins on April 1.
It will continue until April 15, according to a notification signed by Jagannath University Registrar and member secretary of the integrated admission committee engineer Md Ohiduzzaman on Wednesday.
Students who meet the minimum qualifications will be allowed to apply.

Those who have passed HSC/Alim and equivalent examinations in 2019 or 2020 can apply. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 8 for studying Science subjects, a minimum GPA of 7.5 for Commerce and a minimum GPA of 7 for Humanities.
However, the aspirants must also have a minimum GPA of 3.5 in both SSC and HSC examinations.

Only for this year, students who have passed HSC in 2019 and 2020 will be able to participate in the admission test because of the Coronavirus outbreak. From next year, students will only be allowed to sit entry tests the same year they pass HSC.
Students won't have to pay any fee for the initial application for the cluster tests.
After initial scrutiny, students who are eligible for admission tests will be informed through SMS on April 23.

Initially selected students have to file the final application between April 24 and May 20 by depositing Tk 500 through mobile banking services.
Applicants can download the admit cards from June 1 to June 10. Detailed admission test-related information will be published in national dailies and at www.gstadmission.ac.bd.
Entry tests will start at 12pm at respective venues. A student can select five centres. Students who passed in 2019 and got into universities will not be able to choose the educational institutions they are currently studying at as centres for the test.
