Polls violence: 12 injured in attack by AL in Cumilla
At least 12 persons were injured in an attack reportedly by supporters of ruling Awami League candidate for the upcoming union parishad election at Khoskandi area of Damoti union on Friday.
The injured are-Aiyub Ali, Sharif, Shafiqul Islam, Shanto, Zillur Rahman, Billal, Imran, Mehedi, Rahman, Tofazzol, Rakib Munshi and Khokon.
All the injured persons are now undergoing treatment at Upazila Health Complex, except critically injured Aiyub Ali, who was referred to Cumilla Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.
According to eye-witnesses, AL backed chairman candidate Jasim Uddin’s brother Shah Poran and his supporters carried out the attack on supporters of independent candidate Mohiuddin Mithu, when they were preparing for an election rally in the evening.

Jasim Uddin however denied the allegations, saying that he knew nothing about the attack.
Mithu told UNB that supporters of AL candidate Jasim Uddin were threatening his supporters after submission of nomination papers.
"They even threatened to kill my supporters if they voted for me and not the AL candidate," he added.
The OC of Debidar police station Arifur Rahman confirmed the incident of violence took place, but said legal action will only be taken upon receiving a written complaint.

UP-polls clash: 1 shot dead at Asannagar Union
A man was killed on Sunday as police fired bullets at a centre in Asannagar union in Thakurgaon to quell a clash between supporters of two member candidates in UP polls.
The killed was identified as Hamidur Rahman, 55, a resident of South Asannagar union. He died on the spot and his body was sent to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital, police said.

The rival supporters of the candidates contesting with ‘Tala’ and ‘Football’ symbols locked in a clash during counting of votes at the Dakkhin Asannagar Government Primary School center at 7 pm.
Police opened fire to take control of the situation, said Jahangir Hossain Superintendent of District police.
The situation at the polling centre is currently under control, said the SP.

15 injured in Narayanganj post-poll violence
At least 15 people were injured, including one with bullet wounds, in post-poll violence in Naura under Kayetpara union of Narayanganj's Rupganj upazila on Tuesday night.
The youth who sustained bullet injuries, has been identified as Yeakub, 17.

Police said that around 8pm on Tuesday, armed supporters of defeated chairman candidate Mizanur Rahman swooped on the houses of the supporters of newly elected chairman Jayed Ali and opened fire.
A chase and counter chase followed, leaving 15 people injured. Yeakub was hit by a stray bullet during the clash. He was sent to Dhaka for better treatment.
The attackers also set on fire five houses, a private car and four motorbikes and vandalised 8-10 houses in the area.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said ASM Sayet, officer in-charge of the Rupganj police station.

Poll violence claims another life; injured Narsingdi man dies in Dhaka
A 30-year-old man, who was shot inside a polling centre in Narsingdi's Raipura, died Sunday night.
Farid Mia was hit by bullets inside a primary school in Uttar Bakharnagarof Raipura.
The man from Uttar Bakharnagar was declared dead at 9:15pm after being rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Shah Alam, the brother-in-law of the deceased, said: "Farid was critically injured as the supporters of two rival member candidates opened fire at each other inside the school. He was declared dead after being rushed to DMCH."
Farid Mia was a rickshaw puller. He is the son of late Abdul Majid Miah of Uttar Bakhar Nagar. He left behind two sons and one daughter and a wife.

ASI Abdul Khan, acting in-charge of the police camp at DMCH confirmed the matter and said the body has been kept at DMCH morgue for autopsy. The matter has been reported to the concerned police station.
"A bullet-hit man was brought to DMCH from Narsingdi and was declared dead upon arrival. The concerned police station has been informed of the incident," said Abdul Khan.

BCL leader killed in Lakshmipur poll violence
A leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was killed allegedly by the supporters of the independent candidate during UP poll in Lakshmipur’s Ramganj upazila on Sunday.
The deceased identified as Sazzadur Rahman Sajib was the president of Ichapur Union Chhatra League.

Police said a clash broke out between the supporters of Al-backed candidate and independent candidate at Nayanpur Primary School in Ichapur union around 5pm, leaving Sajib seriously injured after being hit on his head.
Later, he was sent to Chandpur Sadar Hospital where the doctor declared him dead on arrival.

Lakshmipur SP AH Kamruzzaman said they are investigating the matter.
Meanwhile, the law forces detained 40 people with a number weapons from different places of the upazila.

Presiding officer, police stabbed in Cumilla poll violence
A presiding officer and a policeman were stabbed at a polling centre in Cumilla’s Barura upazila during the ongoing UP polls on Sunday, police said.
The injured were identified as Presiding officer Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan and SP Abu Hanif.

Police said Presiding Officer Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan was stabbed on his left hand and SI Abu Hanif was hacked in his waist when they tried to stop some miscreants from capturing the polling centre at Dewatali Government Primary School in Jalam union at 11am. The miscreants also snatched the SP’s pistol.
Later, the presiding officer was sent to the Upazila Health Complex while the SP Hanif was sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

In this regard, Barura Upazila Election Officer Azharul Islam said the polling at the centre will be cancelled due to the violence.
Iqbal Bahar, officer-in-charge of Barura Police Station, said additional forces have been deployed to prevent further violence.
