Global Covid cases top 612 million
The overall number of global Covid cases has now crossed 612 million amid a rise in new infections in parts of the world.
According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 612,521,932 while the death toll reached 6,512,972 on Friday morning.
The US has recorded 96,959,165cases so far and 1,074,787people have died from the virus in the country, both highest counts around the world.

India recorded 3,775 new Covid-19 infections in 24 hours, taking the total tally to 44,482,411, official data showed on Thursday.
According to federal health ministry data released on Thursday morning, with the fresh cases, India's active caseload currently stands at 54,117.
The country also logged 33 Covid-related deaths in 24 hours, bringing the overall toll to 528,090, the ministry said.

Bangladesh reported one more Covid-linked death and 388 cases in 24 hours till Thursday morning.
With the new numbers, the country's total fatalities rose to 29,330 and caseload to 2,014,077, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The daily case test positivity rate rose to 7.40 percent from Wednesday's 6.94 percent as 5,241 samples were tested.
The deceased was a woman from Dhaka division.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.46 percent while the recovery rate dropped to 97.22 percent.

Death toll surpasses 6 million for pandemic now in 3rd year
The death toll from COVID-19 eclipsed 6 million Monday — underscoring that the pandemic, now in its third year, is far from finished.
The milestone is the latest tragic reminder of the unrelenting nature of the pandemic even as people are shedding masks, travel is resuming and businesses are reopening around the globe.
The last million deaths were recorded over the last four months, according to the tally compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
That’s slightly slower than the previous million, but highlights that many countries are still struggling with the coronavirus.

Global Covid cases top 400 million
The overall number of Covid cases has surpassed 400 million, with the Omicron variant’s rapid spread across the globe.
According to Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count mounted to 400,487,672 while the death toll from the virus reached 5,762,582 Wednesday morning.
The US has recorded 77,051,222 cases so far and 908,816 people have died from the virus in the country, the university data shows.
Russia is reporting a record daily count of new coronavirus infections, a tenfold spike from a month ago as the highly contagious Omicron variant spreads through the country, reports AP.
Russia’s Covid-19 cases surged by 165,643 over Monday to 13,147,666, the anti-coronavirus crisis center said on Tuesday.
India's Covid-19 tally rose to 42,339,611 on Tuesday, with 67,597 new cases registered in 24 hours across the country, as per the federal health ministry's latest data.
The ministry also reported 1,188 deaths due to the pandemic since Monday morning, taking the total toll to 504,062.
Brazil, which has been experiencing a new wave of cases since last January, has registered 26,793,497 cases so far and 634,118 people have died from the deadly virus in the country.
Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh on Tuesday morning logged 43 more Covid-linked deaths with 8,354 fresh cases in 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate slightly declined to 20.03% from Monday’s 21.07% after testing 41,879 samples during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The number of deaths is highest in nearly six months as the country last recorded 43 deaths on September 19 last year with 1,383 cases and the daily positivity rate at 5.62%.
On Monday, Bangladesh reported 38 more Covid-linked deaths with 9,369 fresh cases.
The fresh numbers took the country’s total fatalities to 28,670 while the caseload mounted to 1,879,255.
Among the new deceased, 26 were men and 17 women.
Fifteen of the deaths were reported in Dhaka division, while 13 in Khulna, 11 in Chattogram, two in Rajshahi, and one each in Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions.
Meanwhile, the mortality rate remained static at 1.53%.
However, the recovery rate slightly increased to 86.36% with the recovery of 10,800 more patients during the 24-hour period.
On January 28, Bangladesh logged its earlier highest daily positivity rate at 33.37%, reporting 15,440 cases and 20 deaths.

On December 9 last year, Bangladesh again logged zero Covid-related death after nearly three weeks as the pandemic was apparently showing signs of easing.
The country reported this year’s first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.
Besides, the country registered the highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 on August 10 last year.

Global Covid cases near 219 million
The global Covid-19 caseload is now fast approaching 219 million, as the ferocious second wave of the corona pandemic continues to wreak havoc across the world amid mass inoculation efforts.
The total caseload and fatalities stand at 218, 969,254 and 4,550,984, respectively, as of Friday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
So far, 5, 370,416,172 vaccine doses have been administered across the globe.
The US, which is the world's worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has so far logged 39,944,270 cases. Besides, 643,594 people have lost their lives in the US to date, as per the JHU data.

The United States is surpassing an average of 160,000 new Covid-19 cases a day due to the spread of the more transmissible Delta variant.
Brazil currently has the world's second-highest pandemic death toll after the United States and the third-largest caseload after the United States and India.
The total caseload rose to 20,830,712 while the death toll stood at 582,004, as of Thursday.
India's Covid-19 tally rose to 32,902,345 on Thursday, while the death toll from the virus mounted to 439,916.
Daily new infections have fallen sharply in India since their peak of more than 400,000 in May.
Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh logged 88 Covid-19 deaths and 3,436 cases in 24 hours till Thursday morning, showing a slight upward trend from a day earlier.
Besides, the case positivity rate also increased slightly to 10.40 percent from last day’s 10.11 percent, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
Bangladesh logged 79 deaths and 3,062 new cases, respectively, on Tuesday morning.
The fresh numbers pushed the country’s total fatalities to 26,362, while the cases reached 15.07,116, according to DGHS.
The country last saw 112 coronavirus-related deaths on June 29 and the upswing in the fatalities reached its peak on August 5 and 10 when 264 deaths were recorded.
The new cases were detected after testing 33,035 samples in 24 hours, said the DGHS.

However, the situation was much more catastrophic from June to the better part of August as the country experienced a surge in Covid caseload and deaths during that time.
Between May and June this year, there was a 273% rise in monthly caseloads and 162% in fatalities. In July, there was a 150% increase in caseloads and a 170% rise in deaths compared to the previous month, according to the World Health Organization.

Global Covid deaths near 3 million
The pandemic continues to devastate countries across the world. In fact, Covid-19 has already claimed over 2.9 million lives and infected more than 136 million people globally.
The total case count reached 136,493,176 while the death toll from the virus climbed to 2,944,366 on Tuesday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
The US, the world’s worst-affected country, has so far registered 31,267,311 cases and 562,521 deaths, as per the latest data released by the university.
Besides, Brazil registered 1,480 deaths from Covid-19 in 24 hours, bringing the national death toll to 354,617, the country's ministry of health reported on Monday.
The ministry also said that another 35,785 cases of Covid-19 were reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the nationwide count to 13,517,808.
India is in the fourth spot in the Covid death tally behind the US, Brazil and Mexico, but stands second in terms of cases after US.

India’s total tally reached 13,527,717 while the death toll from the virus mounted to 170,179 on Tuesday. The South Asian country has been under the grip of a second wave of Covid-19, despite mass inoculation across the country.
Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh is seeing an increase in coronavirus fatalities, breaking its single-day death count record for the third time in as many days on Monday.
Health authorities confirmed 83 deaths on Monday afternoon, surpassing Sunday’s figure of 78. The number was 77 on Saturday.
Fatalities from Covid-19 rose to 9,822 as the mortality rate remained static at 1.42 percent for the fourth consecutive day, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a handout.
Bangladesh announced its first coronavirus death on March 18 last year.

Besides, 7,201 new cases were recorded in the past 24 hours, pushing up the caseload to 691,957.
Bangladesh has been of late seeing a record number of infections, with daily case count surpassing the 7,000-mark earlier this month before falling significantly on April 10 and April 11.
A sharp rise in the number of cases prompted the government to enforce a seven-day lockdown from April 5 but it was ineffective. The government extended the lockdown by two more days and announced to enforce a "strict seven-day lockdown" from April 14.
Vaccination drive
The government launched a vaccination campaign on February 7 with doses received from the Serum Institute of India continues. Experts are calling for ramping up the drive and urging people to follow the health guidelines to keep themselves and others around them safe.
On April 8, Bangladesh began its second phase of inoculation amid uncertainty over vaccine availability.

Global Covid deaths surpass 1.97 million
Over 1.97 million people have died of Covid-19 globally as of Thursday, according to Johns Hopkins University. New infections have also set fresh highs, with the global tally surpassing 92 million.
