The mild to moderate heat wave sweeping parts of the country is likely to continue for next four to five days, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Thursday (June 01, 2023). “Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Sylhet divisions and Chattogram, Rangamati, Cumilla, Chandpur, Noakhali & Feni districts and it may continue,” said a bulletin of BMD. Night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country in 24 hours  starting from 9 am on Thursday.  The lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 24 degrees Celsius in Rangamati and Bandarban on Thursday and the highest temperature was recorded at 40 degrees Celsius in Syedpur on Wednesday. A mild to moderate cold wave is sweeping over parts of Bangladesh. The country’s lowest temperature in 24 hours -- till 6 am today -- was recorded at 6 degree Celsius in Badalgachhi of Naogaon district, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). The highest temperature was recorded at 28.4 degree Celsius in Teknaf during this period. Read more: 2022 was fifth or sixth warmest on record as Earth heats up The BMD in its bulletin said, a mild to moderate cold wave is sweeping over Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions and the districts of Tangail, Faridpur, Rangamati, Cumilla, Moulvibazar, Chuadanga and Kushtia, and it may continue. Moderate to thick fog may occur over the river basins and light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere over the country from midnight till morning. Daylong drizzle disrupted life in the capital and some other parts of the country as cyclonic storm ‘Jawad’ weakened into a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal on Sunday. The day started with a cloudy sky in the capital and people who stepped out of home in the morning without preparation for rain suffered immensely. Traffic constables were seen passing busy time to control traffic as drizzles caused traffic chaos in some areas in the morning. According to a Met office bulletin, “Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram & Dhaka divisions; at many places over Rajshahi, Mymensingh & Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur division with moderately heavy falls at isolated places over the country.” Night temperature may remain nearly unchanged and day temperature may fall slightly over the country. Signal No 3 at maritime ports The maritime ports of the country have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number three as the deep depression over west-central bay and adjoining northwest bay moved north-northeastwards and lies over northwest bay and adjoining west-central bay. It was centred at 06 am on Sunday about 875 kms southwest of Chattogram port, 855 kms southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 695 kms south-southwest of Mongla port and 725 kms south-southwest of Payra port.  It is likely to move further in a north-northeasterly direction and weaken gradually. Maximum sustained wind speed within 48 kms of the deep depression centre is about 50 kph rising to 60 kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain rough near the centre of the deep depression. Under the influence of the peripheral effect of the deep depression, deep convection is continuing over north Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh. All fishing boats and trawlers over north Bay and deep sea have been advised to take shelter and remain in shelter till further notice.

Light rain or drizzle is likely to occur at one or two places over six divisions including Dhaka in the next 24 hours commencing 9 am on Wednesday.
