Dhaka, Nov 12 (UNB) – Bangladesh witnessed a tragic train accident in Brahmanbaria early Tuesday that left at least 16 people dead and over 100 others injured. Casualties in train accidents appeared to be a common phenomenon in the country allegedly for lack of proper maintenance by the authorities and negligence as well. 

Chandpur, Nov 12 (UNB) – Tuesday was the last day for filling up form to take part in the upcoming Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination. So, Farzana Rahman was returning from Sreemangal of Moulvibazar on Monday night after attending the marriage ceremony of her maternal cousin.

The grief-stricken family of Muslim Mia, who died while working at a shipbreaking yard in Sitakunda upazila five days ago, was returning to their residence here by a train after his funeral in his native district of Moulvibazar. But little did they know that this would be the last journey of Muslim’s wife, too.

Sylhet, June 30 (UNB) - At least 13 rail bridges with ‘Dead Stop’ signs are being used on 179-kilometre Sylhet-Akhaura route, leaving thousands of passengers vulnerable to accidents.   A ‘Dead Stop’ sign at rail bridge instructs train to stop first before crossing it and then run at only a five-kilometre per hour.   Sources at Railway East Zone said six trains – Parabat, Jayantika, Paharika, Udayan, Upaban and Kalni – carry 12,000 to 15,000 passengers every day over these danger spots.   Eight of these ‘Dead Stops’ are in an 18-km stretch from Sylhet to Mogla Bazar and five in 164-km area from Mogla Bazar to Akhaura Bridge.

Dhaka, June 24 (UNB) - The rail communications with Sylhet that remained suspended following a train crash will resume by this (Monday) evening, said Railways Secretary Mofazzal Hossain.

Dhaka, June 24 (UNB) – British High Commission in Dhaka has saidthey are in touch with the local authorities “seeking further clarification” on whether any British nationals are affected in the “serious train accident” in Moulvibazar district.

Moulvibazar, June 24 (UNB) – The death toll from Sunday night’s train crash at Baramchal in Kulaura upazila here  rose  to  five.
