Rains or thundershowers likely in parts of country; Severe heat wave continues in 6 districts
Bangladesh Metrological Department (BMD) has predicted rains or thundershowers in Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions in next 24 hours commencing 9 am on Thursday.
According to a Met office bulletin, “Rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely at one or two places over Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.”
Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.
Severe heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Dinajpur, Nilphamari and Chuadanga and mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping elsewhere over the country and it may continue.

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
Meanwhile, the deep depression over Southeast Bay and adjoining area moved north-northwestwards and intensified into cyclonic storm ‘Mocha’ over the same area and it was centred at 06 am on Thursday.
It is likely to intensify further and move in a North-Northwesterly direction till tomorrow morning (May 12).
Thereafter, it is likely to recurve gradually and move North-Northeastwards.
Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to lower distant cautionary signal number 1 and instead hoist distant warning signal 2.

No possibility of rain in 3 days: BMD
There is no possibility of immediate relief from the scorching heat in Bangladesh as the weather department had said rain is unlikely within three days.
Kazi Jebunnesa, assistant meteorologist at the BMD, told UNB that there is no possibility of rain within the next three days and the ongoing heat wave will continue.
Bangladesh Metrological Department (BMD) on Sunday (April 16, 2023) forecast that severe heat wave will continue in parts of the country like the past few days.

The heat wave is sweeping Dhaka, Faridpur, Manikgonj, Pabna, Bagerhat, Jashore, Chuadanga and Kushtia districts and mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping elsewhere over the country and it may continue.
The season’s highest temperature of the country was recorded in Chuadanga at 42.2 degree Celsius while the lowest temperature was in Syedpur at 19.4 degree Celsius on Saturday.
Day temperature may remain nearly unchanged and night temperature may rise slightly over the country, said a Met office bulletin.

Heavy rainfall likely in 24 hours in 8 divs
Bangladesh Metrological Department predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in eight divisions of the country in the next 24 hours commencing at 12 noon on Wednesday.

Under the influence of active monsoon heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at places over Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, Dhaka, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Rangpur divisions.

More rains to lash Bangladesh
More rains are likely to cool off Bangladesh in the next 24 hours, the weather department said Friday.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind and intense lightning flashes is likely to occur at most places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

The weather department recorded 261mm rainfall – the highest – in Chattogram's Sandwip in the last 24 hours till 6pm Friday.
The mercury reached 34.4 degrees Celsius – the highest – in Jashore, while the minimum temperature was 23 degrees in Netrokona and Sitakunda.
Day temperature may remain nearly unchanged, and night temperature may fall by 1-2 degrees Celsius, the BMD said.

Light rain likely in 5 divisions
Bangladesh Metrological Department (BMD) forecast light rain in different parts of the country commencing 9am on Sunday.
According to the regular bulletin of Met office, “Light rain is likely to occur at one or two places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Weather may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.”

A low-pressure area formed over South Andaman Sea and adjoining area and now lies over central part of the Andaman Sea and adjoining area.
The Trough of low extending from Southwest Bay lies over North Bay. The low over Tamilnadu and adjoining area has become unimportant.
Night temperature may remain nearly unchanged and day temperature may rise slightly over the Country.

Dhaka and seven other divisions are likely to witness rain or thundershowers in the next 24 hours commencing 9 am on Monday.
Bangladesh Metrological Department made the forecast.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh & Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi, Dhaka & Chattogram divisions and at one or two places over Khulna & Barishal divisions with moderately heavy falls at isolated places over northern part of the country,” it said.
Monsoon is fairly active over northern part of Bangladesh and less active elsewhere over the country and weak to moderate over North Bay.

The axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across northern part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs extends up to North Bay, said the Met office bulletin.

Severe cyclonic storm Yaas weakens after hitting Odisha, WB coast
Sever Cyclonic Storm Yaas which intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm over Northwest Bay and adjoining area completed crossing North Odisha-West Bengal coast between North of Dhamra & South of Balasore by 3pm on Wednesday.
Then it weakened into a severe cyclonic storm and now lies over coastal North Odisha, said a bulletin of Bangladesh Metrological Department.

It may move north-northwestwards further over land and weakened gradually, it added.

Dry conditions expected over Bangladesh
Bangladesh is likely to start Tuesday on a dry note as the sky may remain partly cloudy over Khulna division and elsewhere over the country in the next 24 hours.
