The Delhi Police on Saturday morning granted permission for a protest at Jantar Mantar organised by the social media platform “Cockroach Janta Party,” which is demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET examination paper leak controversy. The demonstration was called by the online group to seek accountability in the alleged leak case. Its founder, Abhijeet Dipke, arrived in Delhi from the United States on Friday to lead the protest. Police officials reportedly met Dipke at the airport and allowed him to proceed directly to the protest site. Earlier, he had asked supporters to gather at the Parliament Street Police Station to obtain permission, but later redirected them to Jantar Mantar after clearance was granted. Dipke was seen arriving at the airport carrying a copy of BR Ambedkar’s autobiography. Authorities have deployed tight security arrangements in central Delhi, with around 2,000 police personnel stationed at and around the protest venue. A pamphlet distributed by the group at the site said the protest aims to demand accountability, justice, and the resignation of the education minister. It also claimed that an online petition supporting the demand had gathered more than 8 lakh signatures. The “Cockroach Janta Party,” a satirical digital movement launched by Dipke on May 16 following controversy linked to remarks attributed to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, quickly gained widespread attention and amassed a large following on social media platforms. Delhi Police have detained an Indian man accused of killing an Australian woman in Queensland in 2018. The man, Rajwinder Singh, had left Australia after killing the woman. Toyah Cordingley (24) was killed by Rajwinder, according to investigators, because “her dog barked at him,” NDTV reports. Apparently, after an altercation with his wife, Rajwinder Singh (38) headed to Wangetti Beach in Queensland. He admitted to Delhi police that he was carrying some fruits and a kitchen knife. A pharmacy employee, Cordingley, was walking her dog down the shore. Rajwinder and Cordingley got into a fight, as the latter’s dog was barking at him. According to authorities, this led to the Indian man attacking and reportedly killing Cordingley. Two days later, Rajwinder Singh fled Australia – leaving behind his wife, three children, and his job. A Red Corner Notice from Interpol was issued against Rajwinder, and on November 21 the Patiala House Court issued a non-bailable warrant in accordance with the extradition laws. Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka were released by Delhi Police late on Friday evening, after over six hours of detention. Rahul, Priyanka and other senior Congress leaders were detained by the cops during a protest by the country's principal opposition party against inflation and rising unemployment outside the grand old outfit's headquarters in Delhi this afternoon. Around 1pm, Rahul, Priyanka and other senior leaders of the party were bundled into police jeeps and taken to Police Lines at Kingsway Camp as soon as they embarked on the protest. Earlier in the day, Rahul, his mother and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, and several lawmakers of the party wore black clothes in Parliament to register their protest against rising prices, particularly of essential commodities, and unemployment. A senior police officer told the local media that they were compelled to crack down on the protesters in the wake of the imposition of prohibitory orders by the authorities. "We have also not given them permission to hold any protest in Delhi," he said. Rahul, son of Sonia and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, is seen by many as a future prime minister of India. Apart from his father, his grandmother Indira Gandhi and great grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru have all served as prime ministers of India.

With Delhi Police yet to make any headway in Friday's explosion outside the Israeli Embassy in the national capital, the Indian government has asked its elite counter-terrorism terror task force to take over the probe, sources said Tuesday.
