Bangladeshi injured in BSF firing along C’nawabganj border
A 30-year-old Bangladeshi man has been injured in firing by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at Telkupi border in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district.
The injured man, identified as Habil, 30, son of Belal from Mollatola village in Shahbazpur Union, is currently undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
BGB 59 Battalion Commander Lt Col Golam Kibria said BSF personnel opened fire around 3:30am on Friday when a group of six to seven smugglers tried to cross the border, leaving Habil injured.
Habil’s companions managed to rescue him and bring him back to Bangladesh.

He was taken to Chapainawabganj district hospital for primary treatment and then shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
Dr Kausar Hasan, an emergency department physician at Chapainawabganj district hospital, said Habil was admitted to the hospital around 7am on Saturday where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the chest.

A Bangladeshi fisherman was injured in firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the Polladanga border region in Chapainawabganj's Bholahat upazila.
The injured is Jahangir Alam, 24, a resident of Kolonipara village of Gohalbari union.
According to locals, Jahangir was fishing on a boat in the Mahananda River along the Polladanga border region at around 4:30 am on Saturday (February 17, 2024). At that time, BSF fired at him, and his right hand was shot.

The locals then rescued him and rushed him to the Upazila health complex.
Dr Delwar Hossain, duty medical officer of Bholahat Upazila Health Complex, said Jahangir was brought to the hospital with a bullet injury to his right elbow. Later, he was referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Lt Col Golam Kibria, commanding officer of the BGB-59 battalion in Chapainawabganj, said members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire on Jahangir when he went near the Indian territory while he was fishing.
He also said the BGB has sent a protest letter to the BSF in this regard.

BGB personnel shot in BSF firing dies in India
A member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) who sustained injuries after being shot by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) along the Dhannokhola border under Benapole upazila of Jashore early Monday (January 22, 2024), succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in India, BGB said today (January 23, 2024).
The deceased, Raisuddin, 35, was posted at the BGB-49 Battalion in Jashore, said a media release signed by Lt Col Md Jamil, commander of the 49 Battalion.
According to the release, a patrol team of the paramilitary force challenged a gang of cattle smugglers when they were intruding into Bangladesh from India, adjacent to Jhelepara post area under the Benapole upazila, around 5:30 am on Monday.

At one stage of the chase, the smugglers went back inside Indian territory, it reads, adding that BGB personnel Raisuddin got separated from the patrol team amid dense fog.
Though initially he was not found, later it was known through several sources that he was injured in BSF firing and was undergoing treatment in an Indian hospital.
Shortly after the incident, a bilateral flag meeting on commander-level was held between the BGB and the BSF, according to the release. He died while undergoing treatment in the hospital, it was confirmed.
The BGB demanded proper investigation into the incident and sent a protest note to their Indian counterparts, the press release reads.
Process is underway to bring the BGB personnel’s body back home soon, it added.

2 Bangladeshi youths killed in BSF firing along Lalmonirhat border
Two Bangladeshi youths were shot dead by some members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Burimari border in Patgram upazila on Sunday morning.
The deceased were identified as Yunus Ali, 29, son of Bulbul Hossain of Dangapara village under Burimari union of Patgram upazila and Sagar, 26, of Jaldhaka area of Nilphamari district.

According to 61 Burimari BGB camp sources, a patrol team of BSF opened fire on a group of cattle traders when they went to bring cattle near pillar no 842 of Burimari border, leaving Sagar and Yunus dead on the spot.
Omar Faruque, Officer-in-Charge of Patgram Police Station, said they identified the duo after seeing the photographs sent by Indian prople living along the border.
