DMP launches special drives against road, footpath encroachment
Traffic Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has launched a special drive to free footpaths and roads from illegal occupation in the capital.
The drive was conducted simultaneously from 10 am on both sides of roads in different areas including Moghbazar rail crossing area to Banglamotor area, Phulbaria Bus Stand-Bakshibazar to Chakharpool, Nightingle Intersection to Arambagh.
Bsides, Dholaipar to Jatrabari and Faruk Sarani, Indira Road, Green Road, Ananda Cinema Hall, Bashundhara and KarwanBazar area, Kazipara, Shewrapara, Taltala, Bhashantek and Mirpur-14 and BNS Centre to House Building North Tower and Kakoli Outgoing.
The drive will be carried out from April 1 to April 5 at different locations and times, said Arifa Akhter Preeti, Assistant Police Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Division of DMP.
Prior to the eviction drive, DMP asked the traders and shop owners to remove their goods from footpaths and roads.
However, belongings of those who failed to comply were removed during the drive and fines were imposed in some cases.

Special drives to curb air pollution from Wednesday: Minister
Environment Minister Md Shahab Uddin has ordered the director general of the Department of Environment (DoE) and others concerned to conduct special drives from Wednesday to reduce air pollution.
Three executive magistrates of the DoE will conduct the drives against air-polluting companies and vehicles, he said at the Annual Development Program (ADP) meeting held at the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on Tuesday.
To increase the number and extent of drives, a request would be sent to Ministry of Public Administration and Public Security Division for appointing more executive magistrate and law enforcement personnel, he said.
The minister also said inter-ministerial meetings should be held to coordinate with other relevant ministries to take and implement decisions.

“I will participate in campaigns if necessary to create awareness about air and noise pollution,” he said.
He also instructed the project directors concerned to take effective measures to stop use of hydraulic horns and noise pollution.
