Seven killed, 31 injured in devastating Faridpur bus crash
In a tragic turn of events, seven people, including three women and a child, were killed and 31 others injured when a bus veered off the road and crashed into an electric pole before being plunged in Bakhunda area of Sadar upazila of Faridpur district on Tuesday.
The accident occurred around 11am when a bus belonging to 'Farabi Paribahan' was travelling from Muksudpur.
Witnesses reported that the bus crashed into the electric pole and flipped over and plunged into a roadside ditch after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The deceased were identified as Srabon Hasan Alom, 40, of Hajigonj upazila in Chandpur district, Fajirun Nesa, 60, of Mollabari in Sadar upazila, Joar Sardar, 58, and his son Iman Sardar, 35, of Nagarkanda upazila, Ajibur, 43, son of Zahir Uddin of Lalmonirhat, Bharoti Sarkar, 40, of Chandpur district and Dipa Khan, 34, of Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur.

Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said three women and a child are among the deceased.
He said five people died on the spot and 32 others got injured in the accident.
After the crash, 32 injured passengers were taken to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital for treatment where two of them died later.
Saiful Islam, the team leader of Faridpur Fire Service and Civil Defence, said rescue operations were quickly carried out at the scene.
Besides, the pillar of the electric pole pierced into the bus.
Nazrul Islam, senior station officer of Faridpur Fire Service, said they managed to rescue some victims trapped in the bus and sent them to the hospital.
Dr Dilruba Jaba, a physician of Faridpur Medical College and Hospital, said they are trying their best to ensure medical treatment of the victims.
Maruf Hossain, assistant superintendent of Faridpur Highway Police, said it is believed that the accident occurred when the speedy bus tried to overtake another on the highway.
Deputy Commissioner of Faridpur Quamrul Hasan Molla said a probe body will be formed to look into the accident.
Besides, the administration has taken steps to provide Tk 25,000 for the burial and cremation of the deceased, and bear the medical expenses of the injured, he said.
On April 16, 2024, at least 13 people were killed and 15 injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a pickup van on the Dhaka-Khulna highway at Sadar upazila in Faridpur district.
In 2024, Bangladesh recorded 7,294 fatalities and 12,019 injuries from 6,927 road accidents nationwide, as revealed in a report by the Road Safety Foundation.

10 killed in accidents in 3 districts
As many as 10 people were killed and some 21 others injured in separate road accidents in Rajbari, Rangpur and Khulna districts on Wednesday.
In Rajbari, seven people, including two children, were killed and eight others injured when a truck hurtling down a busy road crashed into a private car and a three-wheeler in Rajbari in the morning.

The deceased were identified as Md Nasir, 35, the auto-rickshaw driver, Noyon Sheikh, 9, Md Yusuf, 6, Mariam, 40, Marjina Begum, 40, Shila Khatun, 20, and Mashiran Bibi, 60, of the district's Pangsha upazila.
The accident occurred around 9am when the driver lost control of the speeding truck and crashed into the two vehicles in the Chandpur Railgate area of Kalukhali upazila, police said.
