Preview of Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024 (51st Match)
Historically this fixture is dominated by Mumbai Indians. But this time Kolkata Knight Riders will step on the ground as favorites. They have been a well-functioning side since the beginning of the campaign. The opening pair of Phil Salt and Sunil Narine have been performing great. Their destructive opening partnerships along with quick-fire innings from the likes of Andre Russell, Shryeash Iyer, Angkrish Raghuvangshi, and Rinku Singh have helped KKR score 200+ five times already. Wankhede is known for high-scoring encounters and this core of batters will fancy their chances here as well.

Mumbai Indians on the other hand has been struggling with only three wins from 10 games this season. Their bowling has been disappointing beyond expectations and has been failing the batters all season. They conceded 200+ four times and 250+ two times this season. Although the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee have been doing their part being the highest and 4th highest wicket-takers of this season respectively. Yet it is proving to be nowhere near enough. Their key players like Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, etc. have been performing below their usual level.

Key Players to Watch in the MI Squad
Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah has been one of the only constants of Mumbai Indians this year. He is the highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets currently. 9 of them came from the three matches MI won with an economy of 5.33 only. It is evident how much Bumrah needs to shine for MI to win.
Tilak Varma
Tilak Varma has been arguably the best batter of MI this season. He is the highest run-scorer for Mumbai with 343 runs from 10 games averaging 42.87 and striking at 153.81. He also played 3 50+ innings and is the only entrant from Mumbai in the top 10 run-scorer list.

Key Players to watch in the KKR Squad
Sunil Narine
Sunil Narine has rediscovered himself in this IPL. The legend of this tournament has found a new life with the bat in hand. He is the 2nd highest run-scorer of KKR with 372 runs striking at a mammoth rate of 181. He also has a century as well. He also picked up 11 wickets with the bowl making him the most impactful player of this KKR side.
Phil Salt
Phil Salt is KKR’s other destructive opener who scored 392 runs and kept a strike rate of 180.64. He has four fifties which is joint most this season. His opening partnership with Narine has decided many games for KKR this season and it shouldn’t be anything different this time as well.

Final Words
According to statistics Mumbai Indians dominate over Kolkata Knight Riders. However, the situation is different in IPL 2024 where KKR and MI are holding rank 2 and 9 respectively so far.
MI cannot afford to lose any game now if they wish to qualify for the playoffs. On the other hand, KKR will look to strengthen their position at the top of the table with a win in this game.
Therefore, it can be said that it will be challenging for Mumbai Indians to win against a well-polished opponent like Kolkata Knight Riders in the 51st match of the IPL 2024 tournament.

IPL 2023: Shakib, Litton roped in by KKR
Bangladesh Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan, along with the stylish yet destructive Litton Kumer Das, a top order bat who can also keep wickets, have been signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), in an auction held Friday.
While Shakib is a familiar figure in the IPL, Litton has received his inaugural call to the highly lucrative T20 tournament.
Shakib, one of the best allrounders of the current age, went unsold when his name was first called at Friday's auction. Despite his reputation, no team showed interest in signing him. However, Kolkata picked him up for INR 1.5 crores when his name was called again. Litton also found his home with the team owned by Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan, going for INR 50 lakhs.
Litton scored 1388 runs with eight fifties in 65 T20I matches he played for Bangladesh. In domestic level T20s, he played 160 matches and scored 3443 runs with the highest score of 78 not out.
Undoubtedly what made the difference for him this time is the blazing assault he launched against the Indian attack when Bangladesh and India squared off in October's ICC T20 World Cup. Opening the innings for the Tigers after India had posted a stiff target of 186 to win for their smaller neighbours, Das threatened to take the game away from the Indians with a 21-ball 50: the second-fastest by a Bangladeshi batsman in T20Is, next to Mohd. Ashraful, who did it off 20 balls against the West Indies.
Read more: Four Bangladeshi Cricketers to Compete in IPL 2023 Auction
Once Das was unluckily run out for a memorable 60 off just 27 balls, featuring seven hits to the fence and three that went over it, Bangladesh's hopes in that game quickly faded.
Shakib's IPL performance over the span of 2011-2021 has been decent during this period, he played a total of 71 matches for two teams— Kolkata and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
He has scored a total of 793 runs with the highest score of 66*, and a batting average of 19.82. He took 63 wickets with the best bowling of 3/17 and an average of 29.19. He has yet to take a five-wicket haul in IPL.
The other Bangladeshi player who will play in the next IPL is Mustafizur Rahman. The Delhi Capitals retain the left-arm pacer.

Chennai beats Kolkata in final to clinch 4th IPL title
Ageing maestro Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings won their fourth Indian Premier League title, beating two-time champion Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in the final on Friday.
Chennai, playing its ninth IPL final, made an imposing 192-3 after being put into bat by Kolkata skipper Eoin Morgan.
Kolkata, which had chased down 199 in the 2012 final against Chennai, crumbled to 125-8 before tailenders Shivam Mavi (20) and Lockie Ferguson (17 not out) dragged them to 165-9.
Openers Shubman Gill (51) and Venkatesh Iyer (50) put on a solid 91-run stand, then Kolkata lost its way completely, losing eight wickets for just 34 runs in a dramatic collapse.
Fast bowler Shardul Thakur, who has replaced Axar Patel in India's Twenty20 World Cup squad, picked up 3-38 while Josh Hazzlewood (2-29) and Ravindra Jadeja (2-37) ran through Kolkata's middle order.
All four top-order Chennai batsmen were amongst the runs, led by Faf du Plessis' 86 off 59 balls. But the South African had a lucky escape on 2 when Dinesh Karthik missed a regulation stumping.
Ferguson (0-56) had an off day and conceded the second most runs by a bowler in an IPL final.
The three cameos by Moeen Ali (37 not out), tournament top-scorer Ruturaj Gaikwad (32) and Robin Uthappa (31) helped Chennai to set a formidable total.

IPL 2021 Eliminator: Shakib Scores the Winning Run as Kolkata Secure Qualifier 2
Both KKR and RCB won a game against each other in the round-robin league stage. However, Kolkata won a one-sided affair in the most recent meeting between the two teams and they were full of confidence going into the elimination match. The batters failed to cope with the pitch, thus the eliminator was a low-scoring affair. Kolkata won the match in the last over as Shakib Al Hasan scored the winning run for his team. Kolkata Knight Riders will play Delhi Capitals in qualifier 2 on Wednesday (October 13) for a spot in the final.
Match Report: KKR vs. RCB
Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli chose to bat first against Kolkata Knight Riders in the eliminator match on Monday (October 11) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah.
Bangalore’s Innings
Batted first, Royal Challengers Bangalore barely managed to score 138/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
They got off to a good start in the innings, scoring 49 runs in the first five overs. Captain Virat Kohli and new sensation Devdutt Padikkal, started cautiously but were eager to rotate the strike to put pressure on the bowlers.
Read Mahmudullah out of Bangladesh’s first warm-up match
They were doing well until Kolkata got their first breakthrough with a wide outside off delivery to Padikkal (21) from Kiwi pacer Lockie Ferguson. The left-handed batsman failed to connect with the ball and was clean bowled in the first delivery of the sixth over.
Losing opener Padikkal (21) put the Bangalore innings under strain, as they only managed to score 21 runs in the following five overs and lost Srikar Bharat's wicket. Bangalore had 70 runs on board for the cost of two wickets at that stage.
The Bangalore campaign was hoping that skipper Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and AB de Villiers would lead the team to a competitive score. Though neither of the players ignited in the death overs and Bangalore were forced to settle for a low total to defend.

Virat Kohli played a 39 off 33 balls knock before getting clean bowled by Sunil Narine in the 13th over. It was a fruitful day for Narine, who rattled Bangalore’s top and middle orders with some tight bowling and later played a crucial part with the bat. Narine finished his spell with 4-0-21-4. Apart from him, Ferguson took 2 wickets and Shakib Al Hasan had an economical spell as well.
Kolkata’s Innings
Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer got Kolkata off to a strong start with a 41-run opening partnership in pursuit of a modest score. The most successful bowler in IPL 2021, Harshal Patel interrupted their momentum by taking the first wicket in the sixth over. He removed Kolkata’s top scorer Shubman Gill (29) in an off-cutter slower delivery. Kolkata lost inform Rahul Tripathi in the following over.
Kolkata's batsmen had battled to get the scoreboard moving due to the slow nature of the pitch. Kolkata's innings were interrupted due to losing wickets at regular intervals, and the fate of the match was swinging both ways.

Nitesh Rana (23) and Sunil Narine (26) batted well in the middle of the innings to keep Kolkata in the run chase. Bangalore's campaign looked positive to clinch the contest when Sunil Narine and Dinesh Karthik went back to the pavilion in the 18th over.
However, Shakib Al Hasan and captain Eoin Morgan’s patient approach eased Kolkata’s victory with two balls to spare. Shakib took the winning run in the fourth ball of the final over. Siraj, Patel, and Chahal bagged two wickets each for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Player of the Match
All-rounder Sunil Narine was named the best player of the IPL 2021 eliminator match for his outstanding performance with the ball.

Way Forward
Kolkata Knight Riders had been struggling before the postponement of the Indian Premier League last May. They came back strong when the competition resumed in September in the United Arab Emirates. The Kolkata team management has found their ideal formation with the addition of Shakib Al Hasan to the playing XI. However, sources indicate that the ace all-rounder is unlikely to play in the second qualifying match given his commitment to the Bangladesh national team.
Andre Russell may replace Shakib Al Hasan and the West Indian knows what it takes to win a big match. Sunil Narine, Lockie Ferguson, and the openers did well in the eliminator match. They would play vital roles in the qualifier 2 encounter against Delhi Capitals in Sharjah.

Kolkata Knight Riders

So far, Rahul Tripathi has scored the most runs (315 in 10 innings) for Kolkata with a strike rate of 144.49. On the other hand, Prasidh Krishna has 12 wickets in 10 innings at a strike rate of 19.2 for the Knight Riders.

IPL 2021: Will Shakib Al Hasan Play in a crucial MI vs. KKR match?
Kolkata Knight Riders resumed their IPL 2021 campaign in Abu Dhabi with a 9-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore. Kolkata's bowling unit was outstanding in the match. Bangalore were bowled out for 92 runs, and Kolkata needed only 10 overs to reach the target. Kolkata could deploy their winning eleven in the MI vs. KKR match on Thursday (September 23) in Abu Dhabi, thus Shakib Al Hasan's chance of making the playing XI is minimal. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians restarted their season with a 20-run loss against Chennai Super Kings. They will be eager to regain their winning rhythm.

MI vs. KKR: Team News
With 8 points, the Mumbai Indians are in fifth place, while the Kolkata Knight Riders are in sixth place with 6 points. The 14th season of the IPL is currently at a pivotal moment, with each team vying for a top spot in the standings. Losing a match means a big drop in the points table, and net run rate is an important consideration as well.
Two of Mumbai Indians' key players Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya did not participate in the match against Chennai Super Kings. These two might play in the match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Aside from that, any changes to the Mumbai playing XI are unlikely.

Most runs (Mumbai): Rohit Sharma (250) | Most Wickets (Mumbai): Rahul Chahar (11)
Probable Playing XI (Mumbai):
Rohit Sharma (captain), Quinton de Kock (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Adam Milne, Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah
The Kolkata Knight Riders are unlikely to make any changes to their lineup. For Kolkata, Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy, and Lockie Ferguson were all outstanding with the ball against Bangalore. Batsmen had little trouble chasing down the target after a superb bowling performance. As a result, Eoin Morgan and the rest of the team will put their faith in these players to confront the defending IPL champion Mumbai Indians. Shakib Al Hasan will have to wait till the next match if Kolkata stick with the same lineup. Shakib has to play more regularly in order to thrive in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Head-to-Head: MI vs. KKR
Mumbai Indians have an excellent recent record against Kolkata Knight Riders. They have won 12 times in the past 13 meetings with Kolkata. So, Knight Riders have recently found it difficult to compete with the Indians.
Both teams have played each other 28 times in total. Mumbai leads the head-to-head record with 22 victories, while Kolkata have only won 6 games.
Read: Shakib, Mustafizur unlikely to play in the remainder of IPL 2021
Bottom Line
Kolkata Knight Riders are in desperate need of a win, as they have only 6 points from their first eight games. Knight Riders must win at least four more matches in the next six in order to qualify for the playoffs. It's crucial for the Kolkata team to keep their winning streak intact. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians have 8 points from 8 games and need to win at least three of their remaining matches. Therefore, we may anticipate a competitive clash between these two teams, with the winner moving up the IPL 2021 points table.

Shakib, Mustafizur unlikely to play in the remainder of IPL 2021
The 14th edition of the IPL was postponed to the end of April due to a massive outbreak of epidemic coronavirus in India. The BCCI had to take that decision as several cricketers were infected with the coronavirus. The rest of the postponed tournament will take place in September in the UAE. Bangladesh will be playing multiple international series at the same time, that's why the BCB does not want to give a no-objection certificate to Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman. This article discusses why Shakib and Mustafizur will not be given NOC for playing in the remainder of IPL 2021.
The probable reason why BCB is reluctant to give NOC to Shakib and Mustafizur
The much-anticipated seventh edition of the ICC T20 World Cup will take place in the months of November and December. To put it another way, this ICC mega-event will take place in five months. India is the host nation of this year's event, but due to the Corona crisis, it might be staged in the United Arab Emirates or any other country in the Middle East.
Read: ICC announces major changes to cricket world cup format
The BCB is serious about the ICC T20 World Cup. Bangladesh will play a number of international series both at home and overseas to prepare the cricketers well in the next four months. Besides, the Dhaka Premier League T20 Cricket League is being held in June and the cricketers will be busy with this domestic league. Therefore, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has determined that players will not be permitted to partake in any other franchise league outside of Bangladesh at this time.
Several Bangladeshi cricketers have been picked to play in the Pakistan Super League, Indian Premier League, and Caribbean Premier League. No Bangladeshi cricketer will participate in the PSL which will resume on June 7. There is no possibility of any Bangladeshi cricketer participating in the Caribbean Premier League in August-September and the rest of IPL 2021 in September as well.
The world's best all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan has got the opportunity to participate in all of the franchise tournaments. But he will not play in these franchise leagues owing to a simultaneous international schedule. In this year's IPL, Shakib played only three matches for Kolkata.
On the other hand, Mustafizur Rahman has been one of the best performers for Rajasthan Royals in the 12th season of the IPL. Mustafiz played in every match for Rajasthan before the IPL was postponed. No doubt, the Rajasthan team will be dissatisfied if they don't obtain this left-arm quick bowler.
The second phase of the unfinished IPL 2021 may resume on September 19, and the final may be held on October 10.
Read: DPL T20 2021: Shakib Al Hasan Shines in First Round
The BCB president recently informed a private TV channel why he is hesitant to provide Shakib and Mustafiz a no-objection certificate. Given Bangladesh's hectic international cricket schedule in the next few months, NazmulHasanPapon believes it is not reasonable to allow these two players to participate in the IPL. Because, in his opinion, every series leading up to the World Cup is crucial.
Prior to the T20 World Cup, the Bangladesh national cricket team will tour Zimbabwe next July to play a series consisting of Test, ODI, and T20I. After that, they will play ODI and T20 series against England, a five-match T20 series against Australia, and a three-match T20 series against New Zealand.
Bottom Line
The Bangladesh Cricket Board intends to properly prepare the national team for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The cricket board hopes to improve the cricketers both physically and mentally in the following four months. In that circumstance, it's important to keep an eye on the cricketers at all times. Because a slight mistake might lead to serious injury to players. So even if there is an opportunity, the BCB does not want to allow the players to play in any outside franchise league at the moment.

Shakib prefers DPL over PSL
Bangladesh allrounder Shakib Al Hasan may miss the remainder of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for what he has been contracted with the Lahore Qalandars in the replacement draft recently.
The allrounder is reportedly more interested to take part in the Dhaka Premeir Divison Cricket League which is set to begin on May 31.
Mohammedan Sporting Club has bid to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to secure the service of Shakib.

The allrounder missed the last season of the league, which was cancelled after only one round of the games, due to his ban.
Since he is a free player now, any team can bid to secure his service.
Tarikul Islam Tito, a Mohammedan official, has recently submitted a letter to the BCB saying that the allrounder is keen to take part in Dhaka League for them. Tarikul said to the Cricbuzz that the board is yet to say yes to them.

“Instead of playing PSL, Shakib is interested to take part in Dhaka League for us. He was not a part of the league last season, and he is now a free player who can sign for any team. We have sown our interest to secure his service,” Tarikul told the media.
Shakib was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the recently-suspended Indian Premier League (IPL). He somewhat was out of form in this cash-rich event.
Along with Shakib, Bangladesh allrounder Mahmudullah Riyad and wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Das were also contracted with two different PSL franchises. But like Shakib, these two are also uncertain for the remainder of PSL which may take place in early July.

This year’s Dhaka League will be played in the T20 format, unlike the other seasons. Kazi Inam Ahmed, the chairman of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM), has earlier said that due to the Covid-19 situation around the country, they like to host the league in a shorter period of time.
“As decided earlier it will be a T20 event. Considering the busy international schedule and the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, we believe that T20 is the ideal format for the 2019-20 League,” he told in a statement early this month.

Verdict
Shakib Al Hasan is believed to be ahead of Mustafizur Rahman in terms of having an impact on a team's success. Shakib has just two half-centuries and has yet to complete a thousand runs despite appearing in more than 50 IPL matches. He has also 61 wickets at an economy rate of 7.49. On the other hand, Mustafizur Rahman has appeared in five IPL tournaments and has taken 32 wickets in 31 matches with an economy rate of 7.69. Mustafizur was named the best emerging player in 2016 following a stellar season with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
