Cops, journalists among 10 injured during BNP-police clash in Sunamganj
At least 10 people including policemen and journalists were injured in a clash between BNP activists and law enforcers during picketing amid the 48-hour hartal being observed by the party and like-minded opposition parties.
Locals said that BNP activists brought out a procession in favour of the hartal in Puratan Bus Stand area around 11 am and vandalised some vehicles, causing panic on the streets.

A clash broke out when police barred the BNP men from marching forward, they said.
At one stage of the altercation, the picketers hurled brickbats targeting the law enforcers who retaliated with tear gas shells, they said.
Rajan Kumar Das, additional superintendent of district police, said they used tear shells and opened blank fire to control the situation.

Ten people, including three policemen, were injured in the clash, he said, adding that the situation is now under their control.
Local BNP leaders could not be reached over the phone for comments in this connection.

Nayapaltan turns into battlefield following BNP-law enforcers clashes
Dhaka’s Nayapaltan turned into a battlefield following clashes between BNP men and members of the law enforcement agencies on Saturday (October 28, 2023) afternoon centering the party’s scheduled rally.
Following the clashes, the grand rally of the BNP was suspended halfway through the programme.
At one stage of the clashes, BNP central leaders including its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir left the stage and entered the party office in Nayapaltan.

Before leaving the stage, Fakhrul called a dawn to dusk hartal across the country for tomorrow (October 29, 2023).
Members of the law enforcement agencies a reportedly used sound grenades and tear shells to disperse BNP men who retaliated with brickbats.
The clash was going on as of filing this report at 3:20 pm, UNB correspondent reported from the spot.

Chased by the police, the BNP men took position in different alleys and streets in Nayapaltan area from there they were pelting brickbats, stones and other objects targeting police and others.

BNP calls countrywide hartal tomorrow
BNP has announced a dawn-to-dusk hartal across the country to protest “police attacks” on their leaders and activists and their grand rally at Nayapaltan today (October 28, 2023).
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the hartal before leaving the rally stage amid clashes between law enforcers and BNP leaders, activists.

He said hartal will be observed from 6 am to 6 pm on Sunday (October 29, 2023).
BNP men attacked police, vandalised cars in Dhaka’s Kakrail: DB says
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said they announced the hartal to protest the police and ruling party attacks on their peaceful rally.
Earlier, BNP’s grand rally was suspended halfway through the program following the clashes.
The rally began around 12:40 pm, and was stopped around 2:15 pm.

Man in Argentina jersey during BNP-police clash in Nayapaltan identified as Ansar member
A man — in an Argentina football team jersey — who was seen shooting at BNP activists during a clash with police on Wednesday has been identified as a Bangladesh Ansar member.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch Chief Mohammad Harun Ur Rashid confirmed the information to UNB today.
He said, “The Ansar member was on duty under the Paltan model police station that day.”
When asked whether any action will be taken against the Ansar member for not maintaining dress code, he said, “Why should we take action? Even I perform duty in civil clothing. When putting our lives at risk, law enforcement officers can wear any type of clothing.”

Meanwhile, police filed three cases at Shahjahanpur, Motijheel and Paltan police stations against 553 BNP activists and over 2400 unnamed people in connection with Wednesday’s clash with BNP that left one person dead and many injured.
So far 500 people have been arrested in this regard.
The accused were alleged of keeping explosives at the BNP party office, attacking police and sabotage.
After the clash, 473 BNP leaders and activists were arrested from the party’s central office and surrounding areas who were named in this case.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday claimed that two leaders of their party’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal were killed and over 100 others were injured in an attack by police when bullets were fired in front of their party’s Nayapaltan central office.
The detained leaders included BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Publication Secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie.

BNP-Police clash: 31 BNP men land in Natore jail
A Natore court on Tuesday sent 31 BNP activists to jail in a case over a clash between BNP men and police on November 22 during a rally demanding BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s release for treatment abroad. District and Sessions Court Judge Sharif Uddin passed the order when 60 BNP activists led by district BNP member secretary Rahim Newaz surrendered before the court and sought bail.
