Police recovered the body of a student of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) from a hostel in Sadhur Mor area of the city on Saturday (May 20, 2023) night. The deceased was identified as Samiur Rahman, a 17th batch student of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department of the university. His identity was confirmed by the director of Ruet Student Welfare office Md. Rabiul Awal. Now the autopsy is going on at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. The cause of death will be known when the autopsy report will be available,” he said. Earlier, on last Wednesday at noon, the body of Tanveer Fahad Rumi, a student of fourth year and the 18th batch of the Mechanical Engineering department of the same university, was found hanging in his room in Lieutenant Salim Hall. A student of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) died early Monday in Rajshahi allegedly after drinking excessive liquor. The deceased is Masrur Muhit,a student of Department of Mechanical Engineering of the university and son of Abdul Mannan of Ullapara in Sirajganj. Masrur was admitted to Ward No. 16 of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital at 8:15 pm on Sunday. Doctors declared him dead around 1:15 pm. Chinese telecom giant Huawei Monday announced the toppers of its Seeds For The Future 2021 Bangladesh programme from eight universities. Seeds For The Future is Huawei's flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme dedicated to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) students worldwide and was launched in Bangladesh in 2014. This year, the University of Dhaka (DU), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) and East West University (EWU) joined the event. And from there, 16 toppers, one male and one female student from each university, were selected based on their academic record, spot-exam, presentation skill and innovative thinking. The 16 students are Imtiaz Ahmed, and Syeda Fatima Fayruj from BUET; Sumayya Rahman, and Mehedi Hasan from KUET; Nahian Rifaat, and Nazifa Rahman Adhora from RUET; Aninda Nandy, and Fatema Islam Tania from CUET; Syed Doha Uddin, and Nishat Tasnim from the DU; Seeamoon Hasiba Reza, and Mohtasim Tasnim Zaman from EWU; Kazi Arham Kabir, and Sadia Karishma Kabir from AUST; AKM Rakib, and Ramisha Raida Karim from IUT.  Traditionally, the selected students go to China for a study trip. However, due to Covid-19, the training has been shifted to an online programme. A Rajshahi court on Wednesday sentenced four people to life term jail for killing a  bus driver of  Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) in 2018. Justice Anup Kumar of the Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal pronounced the verdict. The convicts are- Sabbir Hossain,, Nur Nabi Hossain alias Hridoy, Sohail Rana alias Sohail and SM Sayem. There are two other accused in the case whose verdict is still pending with a separate juvenile court. Read: 3 get life term for murder in Kushtia Abdus Salam, a bus driver, was stabbed by the accused on the south-east side of Agrani School and College adjacent to RUET on April 23, 2018 while attempting to resolve a local conflict. Later, he died at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital. Abdus Salam's son Pias filed a case with Motihar police station against unidentified accused.
