Ex-Hefajat leader Mamunul gets bail in 5 cases
The High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Mamunul Haque, former joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam, in five separate cases over clash with police and vandalism filed with Paltan and Hathazari Police Stations.
The HC bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Aminul Islam passed the order after separate petitions were filed by Mamunul’s counsel Advocate Helal Uddin Molla in four cases.
All the cases were filed in 2021.
Advocate Helal said 41 cases were filed against the former Hefajat leader. Mamunul earlier secured bail in 12 cases.
Of the 41 cases—four were filed at Motijheel Police Station, nine with Paltan Police, three with Sonargaon police, three with Siddhirganj police, eight with Hathazari Model police, one each with Khulna Sonadanga police, Cumilla Chandina Police, Bhatara police and Mohammadpur police, five with Darus Salam Police and three with Mirpur Model Police.

Besides, two more cases were filed at Dhaka Special Tribunal.
He was arrested from Mohammadpur Jamia Rahmania Arabia Madrasha on April 18, 2021 and since then he is in jail.

Charges against Hefazat’s Mamunul in explosive case on Oct 10
A Khulna court Sunday set October 10 to frame charges against Mamunul Haque, former joint secretary general of Hefajat-e-Islam in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act.
Additional metropolitan session court judge SM Ashikur Rahman announced the date after Mamunul was brought before the court from Khulna district jail, said public prosecutor advocate KM Iqbal Hossain.
According to the charge-sheet of the case, on February 22, 2013 a demonstration of around 3,000 members of 12 parties including Jamaat-e-Islam, BNP and Hefazat took place in Khulna demanding abolition of International Crimes Tribunal, release of arrested war criminals and chanting anti-government slogans.

Headed towards the Gonojagoron Moncho in the city the procession at one point faced police obstruction and allegedly started attacking police with cocktail bombs and gun fires.
In self-defense police also fired 20 rounds of bullets in the air.
In the attack some members of police got injured by the blast and some 26 people were arrested from the spot.
Later in the day, Sub-Inspector of Sonadanga police station, Alamgir Kabir filed a case against 26 people including Maulana Mamunul Haque.
According to the charge-sheet of the case, Mamunul Haque directed his followers to vandalize Gonojagoron Moncho and attack police during an waz mahfil held at Moylapota mosque roundabout a day before the attack.
The charge sheet was submitted on April 21, 2015 by investigation officer of the case SI Md Moktar Hossain against 107 people.
On September 3, Mamunul was transferred to Khulna district jail from Kashimpur high security central jail in Gazipur.
A Narayanganj court on June 5, sent Mamunul to Kashimpur Central Jail on completion of his 18-day remand in six separate cases.
On April 18, a joint team of Tejgaon Division police and DMP's Detective Branch arrested Mamunul from Jamia Rahmania Arabia Madrasah in Mohammadpur.

He was remanded for 18 days till June 5, in six different cases over rape, vandalism and Hefazat mayhem. Among them, three were filed by the district police, two by the CID, and one by the PBI.
The former Hefazat leader currently has 27 cases against his name.

Mamunul fallout: Jharna's father to be ousted from AL
Alfadanga Union Awami League in Faridpur have decided to oust the father of claimed second wife of controversial Hefazat e Islam leader Mamunul Haque.
The decision was made in the local Awami League unit’s executive committee meeting on Thursday.
Waliur Rahman is the father of Jannat Ara Jharna, the woman at the centre of events at a Sonargaon resort where she was with Mamunul two weeks ago. Waliur is also an ex freedom fighter, former army member and member of Gopalpur union Awami League’s ward number four unit.
Gopalpur union AL’s president Md Monayem Khan, confirming the decision, said on April 12, a show cause notice was issued to Waliur Rahman seeking explanation on why he shouldn’t be banished from the party for his family's links with the Hefazat leader, who was arrested this week. He was asked to respond within 7 days.
As no response came, the decision was made to suspend Waliur temporarily, said the president.
President Monayem Khan further said, "We never got any proof of him mixing with any other parties but his family members following some other ideologies while he stays the president may risk confidentiality of the party."
As Waliur doesn’t use cell phone he couldn’t be contacted on the matter.
However, his wife Shiuli Begam said, "We are pro-Awami League family and he (Oaliar) is a freedom fighter and party’s union leader. There is no prospect of suspecting him."
On April 18, joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam, Mamunul Haque was arrested in connection with a case filed over vandalism with Mohammadpur Police Station in 2020.
Later on April 19, a Dhaka court placed him on a 7-day remand in the vandalism case.
Earlier Mamunul, who has been in the limelight due to some recent controversies, was held with a woman he claimed to be his second wife from a resort in Sonargaon on April 3.
Later, Hefazat leaders claimed that Mamunul went to the resort with his “second wife” where locals confined and harassed him before calling in the police.

Mamunul put on 7-day remand in vandalism case
A Dhaka court on Monday placed Mamunul Haque, the controversial Joint Secretary General of Hefezat-e-Islam, on a 7-day remand in a vandalism case filed with Mohammadpur police station in 2020.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikari passed the order after sub-inspector Sajedul Islam, also the investigating officer of the case, sought a 7-day remand for him.
Mamunul was produced before the court amid tight security around the court premise.
He was arrested from Jamia Rahmania Arabia Madrasah on Sunday afternoon by a joint team of Tejgaon Division police and DMP's Detective Branch.

Woman who was with Hefazat leader Mamunul is not his wife: Minister
Home Minister Asaduzzman Khan Kamal on Sunday said that the woman who was with Hefazat Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque in a Sonargaon resort is not his wife.
The Minister said this while giving a statement under Section 300 in Parliament on Hefazat’s mayhem in Hathhazari, Brahmanbaria and Sonargaon.
He said that Mamunul was staying at a resort in Sonargaon upazila with a woman. "She is not his wife, I will let you know more information after knowing," he said.

The Minister said that he does not know why the attack was carried out on the resort by the Hefazat men after broadcasting the incident in the television channels.
"There were some foreigners in the resort, police and BGB men rescued them," he said.
Regarding the Hefazat mayhem in different areas of the country recently, the Home Minister said that definitely there is an objective behind these.
"We are taking steps as per law, no one will be spared," he said.

Hefazat activists' show of force frees leader Mamunul from police custody
Supporters of Hefazat-e-Islam’s Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque went on the rampage in Narayanganj and vandalised a resort in Sonargaon where he was detained with a woman he claimed as his second wife.
Mahanagar Hefazat’s secretary Ferdausur Rahman said Mamunul went to the resort with his second wife where the local Chatra League and Jubo League leaders confined and harassed him, before calling in the police on Saturday.
The woman detained with him is his second wife as claimed by Mamunul Haque, said Ferdausur Rahman.
Narayanganj’s Hefazat’s leaders are looking into the matter visiting the scene, he said.

Later, in the evening madrasa teachers and students gathered in front of the resort and started chanting slogans for freeing Mamunul Haque.
At one point they broke down the main gate of the resort and started a massive rampage entering the property.
As the situation was getting out of hand, police released Mamunul Haque to the demonstrating madrasa folks.
Yet they continued the vandalism at the resort until police released Mamunul Hauque’s wife too around 8 pm.

The resort authority claimed they incurred a crore worth of losses in the destruction.
Mamunul Hauque calmed down the agitated demonstrators by declaring legal actions against the involved AL and Jubo League leaders and left the scene with his wife.
The saga of destruction continued yet after as the protestors blocked Dhaka-Chittagong highway vandalized and set fire to local AL office and Jubo League Leader’s vehicle.
Narayanganj Police Superintendent Md Jayedul Haque said, police reached the scene being informed of locals confining Maulana Mamunul Haque with a woman in the room of that resort.

As Mamunul Haque claimed the woman was his wife, police safely evacuated him from the resort and kept them under custody.
Sonargaon police station’s inspector (Investigation), Tobidur Rahman at evening confirmed Mamunul Haque being safe in Police’s custody. .
Meanwhile Maulana Mamunul Haque threatened to file case against the journalists who were trying to take photograph and video footage of him.
