Brahmanbaria: Drug dealers ambush police, make off with arrested comrade
Two police personnel including an inspector sustained bullet injuries in a gunfight with drug dealers as the criminals ambushed them to snatch away their arrested comrade in Nabinagar upazila of the district early Friday.
The injured cops are Nabinagar Police Station’s Inspector (investigation) Mohammad Sohel and Sub-Inspector Rony Soro Rana.
Sohel, who was hit in the head, is undergoing treatment at Nabinagar Upazila Health Complex, and Rana at a hospital in Cumilla.
Saifuddin Anwar, officer-in-charge of the police station, said one Mannaf alias Monek and his son Shipon are accused in several cases including drug peddling, robbery, murder and rape.
Mannaf was released from jail a few days back, but got involved in drug dealing again with his accomplices, the OC said.
A team led by Inspector Sohel conducted a drive in Nurjahan village of Barikandi union early Friday and arrested Mannaf from his home.
However, absconding Shipon along with accomplices ambushed the team bringing Mannaf to the station, and a gunfight ensued, said OC Saifuddin.

SI Rana was shot in the head, and Inspector Sohel in his arm, while the criminals managed to escape with Mannaf.
An assault case was filed accusing four named individuals, and 4 unnamed.
Molla Mohammad Shaheen, additional superintendent of police, said they are trying to nab all of the accused.
2 drug dealers held with firearms, drug in city
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have detained a drug dealer and his associate along with yaba pills, crystal methamphetamine (crystal meth or ice) and firearms from Hazaribagh of the city.
The detainees were identified as one of the ring leaders of drug dealing Md Abdullah Monir alias Pichchi Monir, 33, and his associate Md Jubaer Hossain, 30.

2 held with 1 kg Crystal meth, 50k Yaba in separate drives in Ramu
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Tuesday detained two Bangladeshi drug dealers with 1 kg crystal methamphetamine or Ice and 50,000 yaba pills in separate drives in Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
According to a media release from BGB, a team of BGB-30 in Ramu, working on a tip-off, detained the drug dealers in Kalghar area at 12:30 pm.
BGB men then seized 1 kg crystal meth worth Tk 5 crore, a motorcycle and a cell phone from the men’s possession.

Meanwhile, another team of BGB-30 detained another drug dealer from an auto rickshaw at Morichya check post around 1pm, said the release.
BGB members seized 50,000 yaba pills worth Tk 1.5 crore hidden in the back of the driver's seat, a cell phone and the CNG-run auto rickshaw.
The detainees were handed over to Ramu Police Station, the release added.
RAB apprehends trio with over 65,000 Yaba pills
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three alleged drug dealers along with 65,105 yaba pills hidden inside Betel leaf (paan) from Shyampur area of the capital on early Sunday.
The arrestees were identified as Mohammad Ayub, 35, Abdus Shukkur, 54, and Md Amir Hossain, 65.
The elite force had secret information that a group of organized drug dealers were stationed in the area adjacent to Postagola Fire Service under Shyampur Police Station with a huge consignment of contraband Yaba pills brought from the border districts hidden inside betel leaves.

Narcotics department is to crack down on 3,500 listed drug dealers in Dhaka
Up to 3,500 people are involved in illicit drug business in the capital, the Department of Narcotics Control said on Friday vowing to crack down on them soon.
Some of the listed people are directly involved in drug dealing, some are patrons or investors, Fazlur Rahman, Head and Additional Director of Department of Narcotics Control’s Dhaka Division, told a press conference in Dhaka.
Recently, a team of the Narcotics Control Department (DNC) of Dhaka Metro-North arrested five drug dealers along with 560 grams of ice and 1,200 pieces of yaba worth Tk 90 lakh after conducting drives in Gulshan, Bhatara, Kuril and Ramna areas of the capital.
This was the largest-ever seizure of ice in Dhaka, claimed the agency.

The list of drug dealers was compiled after analyzing information from the imams, public representatives, locals, victims, drug addicts, previous drug related crimes and law enforcement agencies, he said.
RAB arrests drug dealers, recovers yaba, hemp
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested five alleged drug peddlers and recovered 6,250 pieces yaba pills and 20 kgs hemp from the city’s Jatrabari area in two separate raids on Saturday.
The arrestees were identified as-- Md. Nurul Alam (52), Md. Jasim Uddin Ahmed (35), Md. Helal (27), b. Md. Shah Jalal (22), c. Md. Rajiv Talukder (29).
Based on secret information, a team of Rab-2 battalion started surveillance and set up a check post at Dakshin Kajla of North Duniya Biswa Road in jatrabari at around 6:30 am as the elite force came to know that a group of drug dealers was coming to Jatrabari area from the border area via Chittagong.

When Md. Nurul Alam and Md. Jasim Uddin Ahmed were about to passing the check-post, the elite force members challenged them and found 6,250 pieces Yaba pills searching their bodies at around 7:20 am.
