Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Series 2021
Tamim, Shakib and Mustafizur Reach Unique Milestones in the first ODI against Sri Lanka
After being winless for 10 matches in a row, Bangladesh's national cricket team has finally regained its winning trend in international cricket. The host defeated the Lankans by 33 runs in the first of three matches ODI series. Bangladesh will clinch a bilateral ODI series against Sri Lanka for the first time if they win another match in this contest. In addition to the team's success, Bangladesh enjoyed some personal achievements during the match. Three of Bangladesh's top cricketers; Tamim, Shakib, and Mustafizur reached unique milestones in the first ODI against Sri Lanka. This article discusses the achievements of the three cricketers.
The achievements of Tamim, Shakib, and Mustafizur in the first ODI
Bangladesh's ODI captain Tamim Iqbal, and the world's best all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan achieved personal milestones. While Mustafizur Rahman set a new world record in the series-opening match. Let's take a closer look at those accomplishments.
The milestone that Tamim Iqbal achieved
Bangladesh's ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal needed only two runs to become the first Bangladeshi player to amass 14,000 runs in international cricket before the opening match in the Sri Lanka series. The veteran opener Tamim Iqbal achieved this personal milestone by scoring 52 runs in the first One-Day International against Sri Lanka.
Tamim Iqbal has a total of 14,050 runs in 413 innings in 356 matches. Tamim has 23 hundred and 89 half-centuries in international cricket. He hit his career-best of 206 runs in a Test match against Pakistan in Khulna in 2015. Tamim still needs seven more runs to reach the 14,000-run mark for Bangladesh.
Tamim Iqbal is expected to reach the milestone in the second match of the ongoing bilateral series. Apart from Tamim, the other two Bangladeshi cricketers with over 10,000 international runs are Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan. Tamim is only the tenth opening batsman in international cricket history to achieve 14,000 runs.

The milestone that Shakib Al Hasan reached
Prior to the series opener against Sri Lanka, Shakib Al Hasan was on the verge of reaching a milestone, having taken 999 wickets in 667 competitive matches. He would have completed 1,000 wickets if he gets just one wicket. He had reached this personal milestone by taking 1 wicket for 44 runs in 10 overs.
Sri Lankan middle-order batsman Kusal Mendis was his 1000th wicket victim. Shakib has taken 569 wickets in international cricket (210 Test wickets, 267 ODI wickets, and 92 T20 wickets), as well as 431 wickets in first-class cricket, List A, and T20 format.
Shakib is expected to shatter two more records in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka. If Shakib gets only two more wickets, he will be the highest ODI wicket-taker for Bangladesh jointly with Mashrafe (269). Furthermore, if he scores 52 runs in the series, the world's best all-rounder will become the third Bangladeshi to achieve 12,000 international runs.

The world record set by Mustafizur Rahman
The cutter-master Mustafizur Rahman achieved a fantastic milestone in the series opener against Sri Lanka. Mustafizur claimed three wickets for 34 runs in the contest. As a result, Mustafizur Rahman captured 51 wickets in 26 One-Day Internationals in Bangladesh, averaging only 15.11.
Mustafizur Rahman has the best average among bowlers who have taken at least 50 wickets at home. Two Australian cricketers, CJ Mckay (18.63) and Dennis Lilee (18.72) are ranked second and third respectively on the list.
He appeared in 65 One-Day Internationals and collected 121 wickets at an average of 22.97. Mustafiz's best ODI bowling figures (6/43) came against India at Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in a bilateral series in 2015.
Bottom Line
Tamim, Shakib, and Mustafizur reached unique milestones in the first ODI against Sri Lanka and made Bangladesh proud again in world cricket. Bangladesh players would be able to achieve a number of personal milestones if they perform well in the next two matches of the series.
However, the main goal should be to ensure a 3-0 series victory. Because if Sri Lanka is whitewashed, Bangladesh will rise to the top of the ICC ODI World Cup Super League points table, which will be a far more significant achievement.

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka all set to face off in an ODI Series
Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will take on each other in a three-match ODI series starting from Sunday. Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman will return to international cricket with this series. As a result, Tamim Iqbal will lead Bangladesh to a full-strength Bangladesh team. Tamim and Shakib are on the verge of reaching personal milestones, that's why the series is significant for the two best cricketers of the tigers'. Bangladesh will be slightly ahead in terms of strength, but the Lankans are not far behind. Both teams are ready for the battle and all set to face off in an ODI series from May 23.
Tamim and Shakib can achieve unique milestones in the series
Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan have a lot of personal records. In reality, these two hold the majority of Bangladesh's records. Tamim and Shakib have the chance to shatter two more records in the series against Sri Lanka. Tamim would become the first Bangladeshi cricketer to reach the 14,000-run mark at the international level if he gets 59 runs in the series. Pushing Mashrafe Mortaza behind, Shakib will be Bangladesh's top wicket-taker in the ODI format if he takes three wickets in the series. Furthermore, Shakib would become the third Bangladeshi to reach 12,000 runs in international cricket if he gets 67 runs. Tamim and Shakib will be able to break all of these records in the opening match if they play at their best. Moreover, Bangladesh will have a better chance of winning the series if these two are on fire.

Strengths and weaknesses of Bangladesh team
In comparison to the two teams, Bangladeshi cricketers have more experience than Sri Lankan cricketers, thus the experience is the biggest strength of the current Bangladesh team. The team includes senior cricketers like Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah Riyad and Mushfiqur Rahim. Some cricketers in the Bangladesh squad have been with the national squad for six or seven years. The squad also includes a group of young cricketers.
Overall, Bangladesh has assembled a strong team in a combination with young and senior players. Bangladesh will be the favorite in this series against Sri Lanka since it will be played at home. Because, based on Bangladesh's recent performance, we can tell that they perform well at home, and defeating them in their own backyard is a difficult task.
On the other side, Bangladesh's fielding is now its weakest point. Bangladesh's fielding has been substandard in every series since last January despite spending a lot of money on a fielding coach. So, everyone is expecting better performance in fielding from the Bangladeshi players in this series.
Probable Playing XI for first ODI
Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Soumya Sarkar, Mahedi Hasan, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam
Strengths and weaknesses of the Sri Lanka team
There are a few promising cricketers on the Sri Lankan team, those who have the potential to be a real match-winner on any given day. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has named a new captain and co-captain for the series.
The Sri Lankan cricketers are expected to thrive in the series with the new leadership. The desire to do well maybe a useful tool for this youth-oriented squad. Sri Lanka have a chance to surprise the host Bangladesh if they follow the appropriate strategy during the contest.
Sri Lanka's lack of experience may prove to be a disadvantage in this series. Because success in ODI cricket requires a thorough understanding of the formula for success in this format, which the present Sri Lankan team lacks.
Probable Playing XI
Kusal Perera (capt, wk), Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dasun Shanaka, Ashen Bandara, Wanindu Hasaranga, Isuru Udana, Lakshan Sandakan, Chamika Karunaratne

Toss Prediction and Weather Forecast

Every match of this contest is crucial for ICC’s ODI World Cup super league. Therefore, Both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are all set to face off in an ODI series in order to improve their position in the points table. Bangladesh will take advantage of the fact that they will be playing at home. As a result, Bangladesh are hoping to win the series for the first time against Sri Lanka. On the other hand, Sri Lanka would aim to win at least one match even if they fail to win the series. Overall, it will undoubtedly be a tough battle.

5) Shakib Al Hasan: 5/70 & 1/134; 26 & 96 (SBNCS, Dhaka,2008)
In 2008, Bangladesh hosted Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series. Sri Lanka came close to losing the first match of the series to Bangladesh. However, the Lankans eventually won the match by 108 runs thanks to the responsible bowling of Muttiah Muralitharan and Dhammika Prasad. Shakib Al Hasan showed a great all-round performance in this match. He took five wickets in the first innings to help Sri Lanka all out for 293 runs.
However, the left-hand spinner had to be satisfied with just one wicket in the second innings. In chase of 521 runs to victory, Shakib Al Hasan first put up a 112-run stand with Mohammad Ashraful (101) in the sixth wicket before forming a 109-run partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim (61) in the seventh wicket, which hurled the Lankan campaign into turmoil. The best player of the match Shakib Al Hasan batted brilliantly in the second innings, scoring 96 runs.

3) RanganaHerath: 5/68 & 7/89 (Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, 2013)
The host, Sri Lanka, were under a lot of pressure heading into the second Test after drawing the first match. Because the Bangladeshi batsmen had been in good form during that series. As a result, RanganaHerath had to carry the most of the burden of defeating the visitors with a comparatively inexperienced Sri Lankan bowling attack. He took 5 wickets in the first innings and also 7 wickets in the second innings. Herath was instrumental in Sri Lanka's 7-wicket victory in the series decider after taking 12 wickets in the match. Sri Lanka eventually clinched the series 1-0 after winning the second Test.
