‘Bir Nibash’: PM gives away keys to 5000 houses for disadvantaged freedom fighters
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today (February 15, 2023) handed over the keys of ‘Bir Nibash’ to valiant freedom fighters, who are financially marginalized.
The Prime Minister handed over keys to 5000 houses at a programme – held in Dhaka’s Osmani Memorial Auditorium – organized by the Liberation War Affairs Ministry with the Minister AKM Mozammel Huq in the chair.
The PM joined the programme virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban.
The houses are being given away to freedom fighters as gifts from the Prime Minister, on the occasion of Mujib Borsho and 50 years of Bangladesh’s independence.

The project, ‘House construction for insolvent freedom fighters’ – approved by the ECNEC on March 21 last year – is being implemented at the cost of Tk 4,122 crore which will come from government funds.
The main objective of the project is to construct 30,000 ‘Bir Nibash’ (houses) for insolvent freedom fighters, Birangana (women freedom fighters), widows and children of martyred and late freedom fighters.
Named ‘Bir Nibash’ (Home for Heroes), each 635sqft house has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a dining room, and a kitchen.
This project is an initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to uplift the socio-economic status of financially marginalized freedom fighters, as well as widows and children of late freedom fighters.

The cost of building each house is Tk 14,10,382, as per the official source.
Deputy Commissioners of Narail, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Gazipur and Kishoreganj, on behalf of the Prime Minister handed over the keys in their respective areas.

Mongolian President gifts racehorse to Indian Defence Minister
Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who is on an official visit to Ulan Bator, has received from Mongolian President Rajnath Singh a very special gift -- an awesome white racehorse.
"A special gift from our special friends in Mongolia. I have named this magnificent beauty, ‘Tejas’. Thank you, President Khurelsukh. Thank you Mongolia," Singh tweeted on Wednesday.
A day before, the Indian Defence Minister called on Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh and reviewed "the multifaceted strategic ties" between the two countries.
"Excellent meeting with the President of Mongolia, H.E. U. Khurelsukh in Ulaanbaatar. Recalled my last meeting with him in 2018, when he was the Prime Minister of the country. We are fully committed to further deepening our multifaceted Strategic Partnership with Mongolia," Singh said in another tweet.

Over 1mn Covid-affected families to get PM’s Eid gift through bKash
bKash will distribute the cash aid of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to 10,50,000 low-income group families affected by COVID-19.
In a unique initiative of the Prime Minister to stand by families who have lost their livelihood, financial aid of Tk 2,500 will be provided to each of them before the Eid, bKash said in a media release on Wednesday.
The money is being disbursed digitally with transparency, swiftness and security to the real victims through verification of NID cards, it said.

Through MFS, the cash aid of Tk 2,500 is going to be distributed to 3.4 million affected families.
The 10,50,000 low-income families will receive this cash aid through bKash.
During the month of Ramadan and the Eid festival, this money will bring relief to the families and help them greatly in case of emergency, bKash said.

The beneficiary will not need to bear any Cash Out charge.
The government will pay Tk 15 from the total Cash Out charge, while the remaining Tk 31.25 will be borne by bKash.
bKash says it has taken all arrangements to enable the family members to Cash Out the money without any hassle.

With the far-sighted decision of the government, bKash said, it is becoming possible to disburse financial aid conveniently among the affected families amid such a critical situation.
This is a significant step towards building Digital Bangladesh, it said.
Last year too, bKash successfully distributed the cash aid of the Prime Minister to nearly 1 million families.
