Preview of Bangladesh vs Ireland Series 2023
The Ireland cricket team arrived in Bangladesh on March 12 to play the first full bilateral series against the Tigers. This will be a 27-day long tour for the Ireland cricket team. After landing at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the Ireland team went directly to Sylhet. The Irish will play a three-match ODI series against Bangladesh in Sylhet.
While Ireland has played plenty of ODIs and T20I, they have not had the opportunity to play the test format for a long time. Played only 3 Tests in the last five years after receiving Test status. The last match was played in 2019. By that time, the teams were introduced to the aggressive mentality in Test cricket. The Irish also want to play the same style of cricket.
On the other hand, the Bangladesh team will go to Sylhet after the last T20 match against England on March 14. Previously Bangladesh team met Ireland 11 times in ODI and won seven of them, while two matches ended with no result.
Changes Bangladesh Squad
After the third ODI against England in Chittagong, BCB President Nazmul Hasan Papon has suggested that resting a few cricketers in the upcoming Ireland series could provide a chance for some of the freshers. This statement sparked a debate on which cricketers might be included in the rest list. Eventually, the names are revealed.

BCB revealed the ODI squad for the forthcoming Ireland series in the absence of experienced national all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad. Recently, this experienced cricketer has been a concern due to his poor performance with the bat, along with his lack of fitness. Questions have been raised about what lies ahead for him after he was eliminated from the Ireland series. On Sunday, March 12, BCB revealed the selection of the 15 players who will take part in the first two One Day Internationals.
Taijul Islam is also not included in the announced 15-member team. Taijul played well in the ODI series against England, yet his absence from the team remains a mystery. The new face in the team is cricketer Zakir Hasan, the keeper-batsman who made his T20 and ODI debut for Bangladesh and has now been called up to the ODI squad. Apart from these two changes, there are no surprises in the ODI squad led by Tamim Iqbal. Additionally, Yasir Ali Chowdhury and Shoriful Islam are back.
Meanwhile, this season of IPL will start on March 31, when Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das, and Mustafizur Rahman were selected from Bangladesh. The Test match against Ireland will start on April 4 and end on April 8. So, it is not clear yet if they will play the test.

Ireland has already announced their squad for ODI, T20, and Test matches back on February 9. This is the first Test against Bangladesh since the Irish became full members of the ICC in 2017. This is the first time that there will be three editions of the series on the same tour.
The major change in the announced team is the absence of Joshua Little in T20. The 23-year-old left-hander took the second-highest wickets in T20 Internationals in 2022 with 39 wickets. Got a place in the ICC T20 XI of the year. Little will only be in the ODI series on the tour of Bangladesh. He has got teams in Pakistan's PSL and India's IPL. He has been given leave from the national team to play franchise cricket. Andrew Balbirnie will lead the Irish in all three formats.

Final Words
Bangladesh's ODI record at home is incredibly good. They have won most of the series at home for the last four-five years. In addition to that, the most recent T20 series win against England will also boost the team’s confidence. So, Ireland's tour in Bangladesh is going to be a challenge for Ireland. Usually, the bigger tours are more challenging for teams like Ireland. Hopefully, The Irish team will be ready to adapt once they get on the field.

Preview of BAN vs ENG ODI Series 2023
This series is a great opportunity for both teams to show their strength during the World Cup year. The ODI and T20 matches will be entertaining for the fans in Bangladesh and around the world. Bangladesh’s record on home ground is amazing, and we all know how great the England team is.
After 2016, the return of the English team to Bangladesh is exciting. Hence, the cricket atmosphere in Dhaka and Chittagong during this trip will be great. Since there is a great love for cricket across Bangladesh, the England team can expect a tough challenge against the team with a great record on the home ground.
Bangladesh has been having a great time on home ground as they just beat India in the ODI series last December. Bangladesh won the ODI series against India with one match in hand. After seven years, the whole world saw the roar of the Tigers against the superpower of cricket, India. And, now Bangladeshi fans can expect the same against England as the English are not getting all the regular players due to the New Zealand series.
At least 15 of England’s regular players are missing from the tour. England will play a two-match Test series against New Zealand from February 16. The series will end on February 28. So, the chances of not getting a player from there are high.

Missing Players in England
Apart from the New Zealand series, the English cricket team will also miss some players due to injury and franchise cricket. Franchise cricket has become a major problem for the English selectors in announcing the team beyond the New Zealand series. Several cricketers of the team are contracted for the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which starts on February 13.
Stars like Alex Hales, Sam Billings, James Vince, and Liam Dawson are not on the team due to the emphasis on franchise cricket. They have informed us that they are not staying on the Bangladesh tour. Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone will be rested due to injury. Captain Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Jason Roy, and Adil Rashid are coming to the Bangladesh tour. Even Mark Wood can return to the team.
Team
Although Bangladesh is yet to announce the squad, England has already announced the team for both T20 and ODI.
England has called up Tom Abell of Somerset, who has not yet been capped, for their limited-overs squads for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh. Abell, who will be the captain of the England Lions one-day side against Sri Lanka, also featured in the SA20 in South Africa recently. The teenage leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed has been given a maiden call-up to the white-ball squads due to his impressive performance in his Test debut at Karachi last December, where he took seven wickets at an average of 19.57.
Saqib Mahmood, a bowler from England, was given a chance to return to the ODI squad after playing in the Test side against West Indies in the past year. The player from Lancashire has obtained 14 ODI wickets with an average of 19.92.
Jofra Archer was also included in both T20 and ODI teams who just made a comeback against South Africa. On the other hand, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, and Olly Stone have been omitted from the squad as they will be occupied for the test series against New Zealand. Surprisingly Alex Hales was not included in the team. Alex Hales was the second-highest run-scorer for England at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, falling just behind Jos Buttler. However, Ben Duckett and Will Jacks will be featured in the T20 squad.

England is Yet to Get a Broadcasting Partner
However, before the start of the series, it was feared that this series might not be seen in England. Because so far, no broadcaster in England has shown interest in buying the TV rights. Earlier in August 2021, no Australian broadcaster had shown the Bangladesh series during the Australian cricket team’s tour of Bangladesh. The Tigers won that series against the Aussies by 4-1. It seems this time, the broadcasters in England are also walking the same path.
According to a report in England’s Telegraph newspaper, so far, no television or radio in England has bought the broadcast rights of the Bangladesh series tour. In the end, if no organization comes forward, England cricket fans may not be able to watch the live games on their TV. In that case, fans may have to rely on streaming sites or the internet.
However, according to the Telegraph, the TV rights may eventually be bought by companies such as Sky Sports and TalkSport. Companies are leaning towards buying rights at a lower price.

Final Words
This series was supposed to take place in September 2021. However, it was postponed as the English Cricketers wanted to play in the IPL, which was taking place in the United Arab Emirates. And eventually, there was no hope of taking place in this long-desired series. But the good thing is that Bangladesh vs English series 2023 is taking place, and it will be a great competitive event for both teams.

Domingo disappointed over “stringent” rules keeping Mushfiq away
Like many others in the cricketing fraternity of Bangladesh, Russell Domingo, Tigers’ head coach, did not hide his disappointment about what he levelled as “stringent” rules of Australia that kept hosts’ ace batsman Mushfiqur Rahim out of the five-match T20Is starting on Tuesday.
Due to the illness of both of his parents, Mushfiq had to come back early from Zimbabwe last month. He spent a few days with the family. Meanwhile, he missed the deadline of starting a pre-series quarantine in Dhaka.
Mushfiq should have entered the bio-bubble on July 20, but he got ready to join on July 22. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) discussed Cricket Australia (CA) matter, and the CA refused to approve Mushfiq’s presence in the bio-bubble.
“I can’t understand the stringent rules Australia placed on the Mushfiq’s bubble,” Domingo told a virtual press conference that took place on Saturday.
“I think a 10-day quarantine would have surely been enough. It’s very disappointing the way they went about it. But we want to play against the best team in the world, and it’s an opportunity for other one or two younger players or fringe players to come and play. I’m sure they’re capable of it. The absence of Mushfiqur and Liton (Das) is a sure loss for us, but we’ve got a big squad and some quality players to replace him,” he added.
READ: BAN vs. AUS Series 2021: T20I Records Between Bangladesh and Australia
Earlier, Bangladesh’s former captain and head of the selection panel Faruque Ahmed also expressed disappointment over Mushfiq’s “unfortunate” fate.
During an interaction with UNB, he said: “It’s really unfortunate for Mushfiqur. He had to come back from Zimbabwe as both of his parents were sick, and while staying with them, he missed the quarantine deadline. He was so eager to take part in this series. In that sense, it’s very unfortunate and unfair for him.”
Not just in Mushfiq’s case, the touring party is maintaining a real tight bio-secure bubble in other areas as well. They are staying in a hotel in Dhaka which is banned for new guests during their stay.
In a recent interaction with the media, the BCB chief executive officer said the Australia cricket team is getting more than they expected from Bangladesh.
Before coming to Bangladesh for their first tour in four years, Australia played in West Indies and lost the T20I series to the hosts. Bangladesh also played a T20I series against Zimbabwe and won 2-1.

Bangladesh expect a better wicket in 2nd Test
After drawing the first Test of the two-match series against Sri Lanka in Kandy, the Bangladesh team is looking forward to having a sporting or spin-friendly wicket in the second Test starting from Thursday at the same venue.
The wicket of the first match was flat which made the bowlers toil for all five days. The bowlers were able to take only 17 out of 40 wickets. On the other hand, a total of four centuries were struck in this game with one of those ending in a double-ton.

“I think the wicket of the first Test was a completely flat track,” Khaled Mahmud, the Bangladesh team leader, told the media over a video message. “We hope the wicket of the next match will be sporting or spin-friendly or may be pace-friendly. We expect that the wicket won’t be flat as it was in the previous game. As far as we know, the home team didn’t like the track of the first game.”
Bangladesh played the series opener with two spinners and three pacers in the bowling attack. Taskin Ahmed, who returned to the Test setup after three years, bagged three wickets for the Tigers while Taijul Islam took two.
“It was tough for the bowlers to do well in this sort of wicket,” Mahmud added. “But they worked really hard. Taskin bowled for more than 30 overs. Ebadot (Hossain) and others did well as well. I’m really happy about their performance.”
Bangladesh had scored 541 runs in the first innings of the match which created hope for a win in Kandy. But when Sri Lanka came up with a bigger innings, the hope of a win faded away.
“When (Najmul Hossain) Shanto and Mominul (Haque) were in the middle and we were approaching a big score, we hoped that we can pick up a win in this game if we bowl and field well. We thought the ball might turn on the final day, that didn’t happen.” Mahmud added.
Before this series, Bangladesh played a two-match Test series at home against the West Indies, which the home side lost 2-0. Mahmud said it was tough for Mominul and his team to make a good comeback in Sri Lanka. According to him, a draw is good for the team and they will learn to win Tests playing this way.

“The team was under enormous pressure after losing the series at home. There was a big question about our ability in Test cricket and everyone is eying to this series to see how we play here. I am happy that the guys did well and they gave their hundred per cent to prove their ability,” he further added.
Najmul hit his maiden Test ton in the first innings of the Kandy Test and ended up on 163 while Momimul also hit a ton which was his first away from home. Riding on these two centuries, Bangladesh hoped to seal the game.
“Najmul was brilliant while he was in the field. And we have to talk about Mominul as well. There was much talk about his ability to do well outside the home. He got a ton and proved that he can play well anywhere. Apart from them, Tamim (Iqbal) was outstanding in both innings of the first match while Mushfiqur (Rahim) and Liton (Das) also supported well. Overall, we are happy with the way batsmen performed in this series so far.”
Drawing the first Test, Bangladesh secured 30 points in the World Test Championship. They have previously played five Tests of this event and lost all of them.
