Smuggler held with 10 gold bars in Benapole
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Tuesday detained a man along with 10 gold bars weighing over one kg at Goga border in Benapole upazila of Jashore.
The detainee was identified as Sakib, a resident of the upazila.
Tipped off, a team of BGB-21 conducted a drive in the area and detained Sakib with the gold bars worth Tk 1 crore this morning, said commanding officer of BGB-21 Lieutenant Colonel Tanvir Ahmed.
A case was filed at Sharsha police station in this regard, the commanding officer said.

BGB nabs smuggler with 7 gold bars in Rajshahi
Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) detained a smuggler with seven gold bars in Rajshahi on Thursday.
The detainee has been identified as Muktar Hossain, 40, son of late Sanaullah of Chapainawabganj district.

Godagari BGB Company Commander Subedar Ainuddin said that tipped off, they detained the accused from Bhagabantpur Kheya ghat in Godagari upazila at 7.30am with seven gold bars, weighing 116 grams.
"Legal processes are underway against the detainee," said the BGB official.

BGB arrests smuggler with 1.4 kg gold
Border Guard Bangladesh, or BGB's Maheshpur Battalion on Monday arrested a gold smuggler with 1.397 kilograms of gold near the Indian border at Jibannagar in Chuadanga.
The arrestee is Md. Shahabul Islam, 44, son of Md. Ali Ahmed of Medinipur village in Jibannagar.
The BGB patrol team led by Naik Nazrul Islam of Medinipur BOP was operating an anti-smuggling operation when Shahabul was seen speeding on his bike near Khalpara bridge area of Medinipur village.
The patrol team, with the help of locals, managed to arrest him and seize 12 gold bars weighing 1.397 kg, as well as his 110 cc motorcycle.
Shahabul in custody has revealed two other names- Mohammad Wasim Mia, 35, and Mohammad Rashed Ali, 30, were involved in smuggling with him, said BGB sources.
He was handed over to Jibannagar police station along with the gold bars and motorcycles.
A case was being filed in this regard, they said.

Man held with 8 gold bars in Hili
Police on Friday detained a smuggler with eight gold bars from Birampur at Hili border of Dinajpur.
The detainee was identified as Golzar Hossain, 50, son of Abdur Rahman of Basupara area of the upazila.
Police said a team, being informed of gold smuggling in India through the Katla border, conducted a drive in the area around 7pm. Police detained Golzar when he tried to escape after placing gold bars under a wooden log placed next to Katla Bazar.

Later, eight gold bars were seized from under the wooden logs. During the interrogation, Golzar admitted that he possessed the gold bars.
Sumon Kumar Mahanta, Officer-in-Charge of Birampur Police Station, said legal processes are underway in this regard. Golzar will be produced before court on Saturday.

Earlier on Thursday, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested another smuggler along with four gold bars while trafficking those to India through Haripukur area of Hili border.

BGB seizes smuggled goods, drugs worth Tk 106.98 cr in Sept
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized various smuggled goods, arms and drugs worth Tk 106.98 crore in various drives across the country in September.
The seized drugs include 20,03,787 Yaba pills, 2.95 g crystal meth ice, 22,368 bottles of phensidyl, 15,684 bottles of foreign liquor, 2,938 cans of beer, 1,565 kg 965 g of cannabis, 9.15 kg of heroin, 13,099 injections, 7,496 Iskaf syrups, 125 bottles of Magdil/Cofidil, 49,675 Anegra/Senegra tablets and 1,75,102 other tablets.
Around 6.78 kg gold, 53.60 kg silver, cosmetics s, 4,842 sarees, 112 readymade garments, 3,378 Cubic feet of wood, 10,826 kg of tea leaves, 26,050 kg of coal, 5 trucks/covered vans, 10 private cars/ microbuses, 8 pickups, 60 CNG/battery run autorickshaws and 70 motorcycles were among the smuggled goods.

The arms and ammunition recovered included three pistols, five different types of guns, five magazines and 12 rounds of bullet.
Besides, legal action has also been taken against 345 people for their involvement in smuggling. Some 221 Bangladeshis and nine Indians were arrested for illegal border crossing.

Man held with Tk. 1.8 crore worth gold
Preventive team of Dhaka Custom House on Saturday (May 01, 2021) arrested a man with 2.6 Kg gold at Dhaka Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
On the basis of a secret tip off, the gold was seized from Joynal Abedin, a passenger of Flight No. SV 3580 from Saudi Arabia at 01:25 pm.
According to the passport, Joynal Abedin is from Noakhali district.

When asked he denied about the gold while crossing green channel.
Later while scanning the luggage, a total 2.8 kg gold was found hidden inside charger light, toys and flask, confirmed Dhaka Customs House Deputy Commissioner (Preventive).
Scan of the luggage with the passenger turned up about 2,600 kg of gold inside a charger light peas, toys and flax, according to the Deputy Commissioner (Preventive), Dhaka Customs House.

Estimated market value of the seized gold is Tk 1.8 crore.
The passenger has been handed over to the Airport Police Station and a criminal case has been filed.
The seized gold will be dealt with under the Customs Act, said the Deputy Commissioner.
