Mitu murder case: Court bars 3 accused from leaving Bangladesh
A court in Chattogram has imposed a travel ban on three persons wanted in connection with the murder of former police superintendent Babul Akter's wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu.
Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Mehnaz Rahman gave the order on Monday in the wake of a plea by the investigating officer, inspector Santosh Kumar Chakma of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

The three absconding accused are Kamrul Islam Shikder alias Musa, Ehteshamul Haque Bhola and Khairul Islam alias Kalu.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police's assistant commissioner (prosecution) Kazi Shahabuddin Ahmed said the court's order will soon be sent to all ports across the country.
Inspector Santosh said that the petition was filed in the court to prevent the three fugitives from flying abroad amid the ongoing drive to arrest them for solving the murder case.
From the footage of CCTV cameras, investigators have already confirmed that Musa and Kalu were directly involved in the killing while Bhola had supplied the gun used in the crime.

However, Panna Akter, wife of Musa, told a court that her husband was arrested by the police immediately after the murder.
Bhola, on the other hand, was earlier arrested by police, but has been absconding since his release on bail. Kalu has been on the run since the murder, said the PBI.
On June 5, 2016, unidentified assailants gunned down Babul's wife Mitu at the port city's GEC intersection while she was going to drop her son Mahir Akhter, 7, for a bus of Chittagong Cantonment Public School and College.
Soon after the crime, a murder case was filed at Panchlaish Police Station against three unidentified men, following a complaint by Babul.

On May 12 this year, PBI submitted its final report in the case, prima facie holding Babul guilty of plotting the murder. Babul was held that day only, following a complaint by Mitu's father.
After being in police custody for five days, Babul was remanded in judicial custody by a court. He has been lodged in Feni district jail since May 17.

Babul Akter sent to Feni jail
Chattogram's former police superintendent Babul Akter, who is under arrest in a case filed over his wife Mitu’s murder, has been sent to Feni district jail Saturday.
Chattogram jail authorities have confirmed the handover to UNB.
Jailer Dewan Tariqul Islam said following an order from the higher authority Babul Akter was handed over to Feni jail.
“There is no significant reason for his transfer, it’s just where authorities want him to stay," he said.
On May 17, after a 5-day remand Babul was produced before the court for giving a confessional statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Later he changed his mind and the court sent him to jail.
Since, Babul Akter was staying in Chattogram jail.
On May 12, PBI detained Babul Akter following an investigation that gave them clear reasons to believe he was involved in his wife's murder.
In the case statement, his father in law Mosharraf claimed that Babul had his wife killed over extra marital relationship.
The other accused in the case are—Musa, Kalu, Ehteshamul Bhola, Munir, Saidul Islam Shikdar alias Sakku, Shahjahan, Anwar and Wasim.

Mitu murder case: No confessional statement from Babul after remand
Chattogram's former police superintendent Babul Akter didn’t give any confessional statement at court on Monday after spending 5 days in police remand as accused in his wife, Mitu’s murder case.
Babul was produced before Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Sarwar Zahan’s court by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) today.
The court sent Babul Akter to jail around 3pm as he didn’t give any confessional statement under section 164.
Assistant commissioner (prosecution) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, Kazi Shahabuddin confirmed the matter to media and said it’s up to PBI now, if they want to appeal for remand again for interrogating the former SP.

On May 12, Babul was taken under 5-day remand by PBI for interrogation after being arrested in a 5-year old case filed over his wife’s murder case by his father-in-law.
Former plaintiff now the prime accused of the murder case Babul Akter has mostly ignored any question regarding the motive of the murder during the interrogation, said the PBI officials.
He only said, “You know everything, what should I tell?” said the sources involved in investigation.

On May 13, this year, court placed Saidul Islam Shikder Shaku, seventh accused of the murder case on a 4-day remand.

Eight people including Babul were accused in the case filed by Mitu's father, Mosharraf Hossain. The other accused are Kamrul Islam Shikder alias Musa, Ehteshamul Haque Bhola, Motaleb Mia alias Wasim, Anwar Hossain, Khairul Islam alias Kalu, and Shahjahan Mia.

Mitu murder case: Another prime accused arrested in Chattogram
A day after former Chattogram police superintendent Babul Akter was arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of his wife, RAB on Thursday claimed to have apprehended another prime accused in the case.
RAB sleuths nabbed Saidul Islam Shikder from the Ranirhat Bazar area of Rangunia upazila in Chattogram late on Wednesday night, assistant police superintendent of RAB-7, Nurul Afsar, told UNB.
Earlier on Wednesday, Babul was arrested by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) after it allegedly established the former SP's involvement in the 2016 killing of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu.

He was subsequently produced in the court of Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Sarwar Zahan, which sent him to PBI custody for five days.
Babul was, in fact, arrested after the PBI booked him and seven others, including Saidul Islam Shikder, for his wife's murder, based on a complaint by Mitu’s father Mosharraf Hossain at Panchlaish Police Station on Wednesday noon, said officer-in-charge Abul Kashem Bhuiyan.
In the case statement, accessed by UNB, the PBI has accused Babul for ordering the murder of his wife.
The other accused in the case are Musa, Kalu, arms supplier Ehteshamul Haque Bhola and his assistant Md Munir, Shahjahan, Anwar and Wasim.
Musa, who had planned and led the murder mission, is still on the run. After the murder, Babul had called Musa over the phone and sent SMSes a number of times, according to the PBI.
Other two accused Nabi and Rashed were killed in a gunfight with police in Rangunia on July 4, 2016.

During the course of the probe, police had also arrested "arms supplier" Ehteshamul Haque Bhola and his assistant Md Monir and seized a pistol from their possession.
However, the case was transferred to the PBI in 2019, after Mitu's father, himself a retired police officer, filed a complaint against the CMP's mishandling of the case.

Babul among 8 sued in Mitu murder
A case was filed against eight people, including former superintendent of police Babul Akter, in connection with the death of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, who was killed in broad daylight in 2016.
Mitu’s father Mosharraf Hossain filed the case with Panchlaish Police Station on Wednesday noon, said officer-in-charge of the police station Abul Kashem Bhuiyan.
While talking to the reporters, Mosharraf, said: “I said earlier that Babul has an involvement in my daughter’s murder and now I came here to file a case against him.”

Santosh Kumar Chakma, the investigating officer of the case, said Babul himself came to the PBI office in Mansurabad on Tuesday afternoon to check the progress of the murder case.

Soon after the crime, Babul had filed a murder case with Panchlaish Police Station against three unidentified men.

The case was transferred to the PBI in 2019, after Mitu's father, himself a retired police officer, filed a complaint against the CMP's mishandling of the case.
Mitu's father had, in fact, accused Babul of being directly involved in the murder case. "He (Babul) should be implicated in the murder case... if he's not, we'll go to the court."
Babul had called for questioning a number of times by the PBI since his transfer, but he was detained.
