BCL activists clash with villagers near CU campus
A faction of Bangladesh Chatra League (BCL) in Chittagong University (CU) has clashed with the villagers near the campus over a trivial issue on Sunday afternoon.
BCL leaders claimed that five BCL leaders were beaten up by the villagers.
But witnesses said that a BCL activist of the Bijoy group hit a three-wheeler with his motorbike near Gate-2 of the university. At this a local youth had a quarrel with the BCL activists that led them to clash with the villagers.
BCL activists were seen with sticks and local weapons in the area. Both BCL and locals were seen throwing brick bats at each other. The parties also chased and clashed, sources said.
Despite repeated attempts by UNB’s campus correspondent to contact Bijoy group leader Ilias, he didn’t respond to the call.
University Proctor Rabiul Hasan Bhuiyan said the locals had a dispute with the students. Later, the proctorial team and Hathazari police went to the spot and brought the students back to the dorms.
Now the situation is under control, he said.
