BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury’s brother held trying to flee Bangladesh
BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury’s brother Amjad was arrested on Thursday night at Chattogram airport as he allegedly tried to flee the country.
Immigration police at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport nabbed Amjad around 10.30pm as he attempted to board a flight to Dubai defying the bar on his leaving Bangladesh in a bank fraud case, officials said on Friday.
"Amjad was brought to Sitakunda model police station after the arrest. He is being interrogated," said Suman Banik, officer-in-charge of Sitakunda model police station.

On July 17, 2016, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), filed the case against BNP’s joint general secretary Aslam, his wife Jamila Najnin Mowla, and his brothers -- Jashim and Amjad -- for defrauding AB Bank of Tk 325.74 crore.
On August 7, 2017, ACC's deputy director in Dhaka Md Mosharraf Hossain Mridha filed a chargesheet in the case after investigation.
Sheikh Golam Mowla, deputy director of ACC, said that Aslam is currently in jail but all other accused in the case are out on bail. “But the court has barred them from leaving the country,” he said.

As many as 15 other cases are already registered against the two brothers, he added.

BNP leader Aslam Chy indicted in embezzlement case
A Chattogram court on Thursday framed charges against BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury, his wife and two others in a case filed for embezzling Tk 325 crore of bank loan.
Chattogram District Special Judge Munshi Abdul Majid passed the order during a hearing on the case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said Kazi Sanwar Ahmed, Public Prosecutor of ACC.
The other accused in the case are Aslam Chowdhury’s wife Jamila Najnin Mowla, his brothers- Jashim Uddin Chowdhury and Amjad Hossain Chowdhury.

On July 17, 2016, Manik Lal Das, Deputy Assistant Director of the ACC, filed the case against BNP’s Joint General Secretary Aslam and his family members on charges of embezzling Tk 325.74 crore loan of AB Bank, Agrabad branch.
On August 7, 2017, Deputy Director of ACC in Dhaka Md Mosharraf Hossain Mridha submitted the charge sheet in the case after investigation.

BNP's Aslam Chowdhury gets bail in two 2013 sabotage cases
The High Court Sunday granted bail to BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury in two sabotage cases filed against him with the capital's Kotwali and Shahbag police stations in 2013.
The bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim passed the orders, granting him ad-interim bail for six months, Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ullah said.
Aslam's lawyer Hasibur Rahman said the High Court orders cleared the way for his client to walk out of jail.

On May 15, 2016, Aslam, a joint secretary general of BNP and former convener of BNP Chattogram North unit, was arrested from Dhaka's Khilkhet area for allegedly hatching a conspiracy with Israeli intelligence agency Mossad to overthrow the government.
On May 26, 2016, he was sued for the alleged sedition. The BNP leader was then shown arrested in two sedition cases.

Next, Aslam was accused in other cases including sabotage and cheque fraud. However, he secured bail in all the cases, Hasibur said.
