A mobile court in a drive on Tuesday fined seven vehicles Tk 22,000 for polluting air in Dhaka’s Khilkhet area.
The mobile court, led by executive magistrate Asma Shaheen of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Ministry conducted the drive and found seven vehicles responsible for polluting air through emitting black smoke.
Later, the mobile court fined the vehicles.
The Monitoring and Enforcement Wing of Department of Environment (DoE) conducted the mobile court drive in Khilkhet area as part of drive against environment pollution and it will continue in Dhaka and its adjacent areas.

Hospital in Chandpur fined after patient dies of "wrong treatment"
A mobile court fined a private hospital Tk 50,000 for wrongful treatment of a patient leading to death in Shahrasti upazila of Chandpur district.
The mobile court led by Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mohammad Amjad Hossain conducted the drive at Shahrashti Memorial Hospital and Digital Diagnostic Center on Sunday afternoon.
According to the upazila health complex, on May 9, Maryam Akhter Ritu, 24, a resident of Bhabanipur area of Kachua Upazila, was admitted to the hospital and gave birth to a baby through cesarean section.

When her condition deteriorated, she was referred to Cumilla Medical College and Hospital where she died on May 31 while undergoing treatment there.
The victim's family members lodged a complaint with the district civil surgeon.
Based on the complaint, Civil Surgeon Dr. Shahadat Hossain visited the hospital on Sunday afternoon and directed the Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, Dr. Md. Nasir Uddin, to take necessary action.

Nasir Uddin said the patient died due to wrong treatment and negligence. Therefore, the hospital has been fined under Section 53 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act-2009.
A three-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the matter, he said, adding the committee has been asked to submit a report within the next three days.

7 shops fined in Sylhet for overpricing soybean oil
The authorities on Sunday fined seven wholesalers of edible oil Tk 16,000 for stockpiling and selling soybean oil at a price higher than that fixed by the government during a raid in Sylhet.
The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection has launched a nationwide drive to prevent stockpiling and overpricing of soybean oil in the market, following the record hike in the cooking oil’s house.
On the instructions of the director general of the department, the Sylhet district and divisional office conducted a drive in Sylhet from 11 am like the rest of the country.

During the drive, warehouses and shops of soybean oil dealers in Kalighat, Kazir Bazar, Lama Bazar, Madina Market, Akhalia and Tuker Bazar of Sylhet city were inspected.
However, no evidence of stockpiling of soybean oil was found in any warehouse in the Kalighat area of the city.
Traders claim that enough oil is not being supplied from the oil company's depots.
On the other hand, the depot authorities informed that the oil supply was a little less due to the Eid holidays. However, they have started getting enough soybean oil from Sunday.

Assistant Director Shyamal Purkayastha and Md Amirul Islam Masud, Assistant Director of the Department were also present during the drive along with Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and law enforcers.

3 fined Tk 23 lakh for irregularities in scraping grounded ship in Ctg
Department of Environment (DoE) on Thursday fined three people Tk 23 lakh for not following proper method in scrapping a grounded ship off the coast of Bhatiary in Sitakunda upazila in Chattogram.
Mofidul Islam, director of DoE Chattogram Zone, gave the order after a hearing in this regard.
Those fined by the DoE are Giash Uddin, Mahbub, and Kamal Uddin.
Mofidul Islam said, “The three who claimed ownership of the ship were fined for not following proper method while breaking the ship.”

However, no representative of Bhatiary ship breaking yard came although a notice was issued, said the DoE director.
“Another notice will be issued and further steps will be taken in this regard if they don’t appear before the DoE authorities,” he added.
As license of the ship breaking yard where the ship named Royal Bird was being broken was not renewed many reports were published in different local and national dailies questioning the method and safety issues.

On Monday, some senior officials of DoE visited the yard and found irregularities in scrapping the ship.

9 fined for not wearing masks in B'baria
A mobile court on Monday fined nine people in the district's Akhaura upazila for not wearing masks in public places.
A team, led by Saiful Islam, the executive magistrate and assistant commissioner of the upazila administration (land), conducted a drive in Sorokbazar, Borobazar and rail station areas and challaned the nine for not adhering to Covid-safety protocols.

“The nine people were fined Tk 2,500 for breaching the government's Covid-safety guidelines,” said upazila sanitary inspector Md Rafiqul Islam.
The Bangladesh government has announced strict measures to contain the rising cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 and those flouting the same will be punished, said the executive magistrate.
The drive will continue until further notice, he added.

2 restaurants fined Tk 1.5 lakh in DMP drive
A mobile court of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) fined two restaurants a combined Tk 1.5 lakh for preparing food in an unhealthy environment by conducting raids in Kalabagan and Kataban areas of the capital on Sunday.
DMP Executive Magistrate Dr. Sanjeev Das conducted the mobile court as part of the DMP's special drives at Alam Restaurant of Kalabagan thana area and Ashta Banjan Restaurant in Kataban area.

During the simultaneous drives started from 12:00 pm, the mobile court fined Alam Restaurant of Tk 1.25 lakh for not showing registration, not labeling the prepared yoghurt and firni and preparing food in unhealthy environment, while Tk 25,000 to Ashta Banjan Restaurant for preparing food in unhealthy environment.
The mobile court was conducted in coordination with Shahbagh Police station, Dhaka South City Corporation and Safe Food Authority.

Youth fined Tk 20,000 for stalking CU students in Chattogram
A mobile court on Wednesday imposed a fine of Tk 20,000 on a 21-year-old youth for stalking two female students of Chittagong University in the Borodighirpar area of Hathazari upazila.
Assistant Commissioner (land) Sharif Ullah, an executive magistrate, said the female students of CU have been frequenting the area for the past three years for private tuition purposes.

"Some youths of the area have been teasing them on the students on their way to tuition classes for the past couple of months," he said.
On Wednesday too, Rakib, son of Mohammad Emran, along with his friends, stalked the girls as usual. "One of them resisted and an argument broke out between her and the stalkers, prompting her to call police," Sharif said.

Later, the mobile court, slapped a fine of Tk 20,000 on Rakib.
According to local people, Rakib studies in a college abroad but is currently in his home country of Bangladesh owing to the Covid-induced lockdown.
