Trawler with wedding party capsize in Patuakhali: Groom, 3 others still missing
The search for four people including a groom, his mother and two others, who went missing after a trawler carrying a wedding party capsized in Tetulia River in Patuakhali’s Dashmina upazila on Friday, resumed on Saturday for the second day.
Those who remain missing were identified as the groom Rabbi Hawladar, 20, son of Manir Hawladar of Guli Auliapur; his mother, Selina Akter, 40; Khadiza, 5, daughter of Dhalu Hawladar; and Mansura, 8, daughter of Belal Munshi.
Local administration, three units of Fire Services and Navy jointly started conducted the rescue operation from Saturday morning, said Anwar Hossain, leader of Dashmina Fire Service Station.

Nafisa Naz Nia, Dashmina Upazila Nirbahi Officer, said the local administration has taken the matter with utmost importance to rescue the missing persons.
Earlier, on Friday, a woman was dead and four went missing when the trawler carrying a wedding party capsized in the river during a storm while returning with the bride.
Bride Sumaiya and 14 others were on the trawler.
The deceased was identified as Lipi Begum, 30, wife of Dhalu Hawladar of Uttar Ronogopaldi in the upazila.

Karnaphuli trawler capsize: 2 more bodies recovered
The death toll from the trawler capsize in the Karnaphuli river of Chattogram rose to seven with the recovery of two more bodies on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Motaleb, 60, and Pradeep Chowdhury, 55, from Dakkhin Char Aisha village of Bhola’s Charfession upazila.
Fire service members recovered the bodies from the river in Patenga area in the morning, said Abdul Malek, Assistant Director of Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defense.
“After four days of relentless efforts, we’ve declared our rescue operation completed as all the seven bodies have been recovered,” he added.

On Tuesday, seven people went missing as ‘MV Magferat’, sank in the river around 1:30 am while trying to dock for maintenance near Ichhanagar village of the Karnaphuli upazila.
Nine people, including the chief engineer, managed to swim ashore.
In a joint operation, River Police, Bangladesh Coast Guard and Fire Service members recovered five bodies till Friday.

Death toll from sinking of Karatoa boat rises to 55
The death toll from the boat capsize in the River Karatoa rose to 55 as nine more bodies were fished out in Boda upazila of Panchagarh Monday, police said.
Divers from three firefighting units recovered the nine bodies from different spots of the river, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Boda Police Station Sujoy Kumar Roy told UNB.
Among the dead was Kabita Rani, 50. The identities of the others could not immediately be confirmed.
Earlier, SM Sirajul Huda, superintendent of Panchagarh Police, said they received a list of more than 50 missing people from their relatives.
Meanwhile, a five-member probe body, headed by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Dipankar Roy, was formed to investigate the capsize, said Md Zahurul Islam, deputy commissioner of Panchagarh.
The committee was asked to submit its report within three working days.
Sunday, the overloaded boat carrying 60-70 passengers, mostly Hindu devotees, sank in the middle of the river while heading towards Badheshwar Temple on the occasion of Mahalaya around 2:30pm.
Twenty-five bodies were recovered from the river on that day while many others managed to swim ashore.
The operation to trace the remaining missing continues.

Death toll from Karatoya trawler capsize stands at 36
The death toll from the trawler capsize in the Karatoya River rose to 36 as 11 more bodies were retrieved from the river in Boda upazila of Panchagarh Monday.
One of the deceased was identified as Kabita Rani, 50. The identities of the others could not be confirmed yet.
The deceased included 16 women and seven children, said SM Sirajul Huda, superintendent of Panchagarh Police

President's condolences for victims of boat sinking in Panchagarh, AL leader of Mithamoin
President Abdul Hamid on Sunday expressed deep condolences over the boat sinking incident in Panchagarh's Karotoa.
The President prayed for forgiveness and peace for the souls of those killed in the accident and speedy recovery to the injured.
Alongside, Hamid expressed deep grief over the death of Md Abdur Rahman, a prominent Awami League leader of Mithamoin,the birthplace of President Mithamin.
Abdur Rahman passed away at his residence last night at 2:30 pm due to old age.
He was 95 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by numerous devotees including two sons.

In a condolence message, the President said that the late Abdur Rahman served as the president of the Awami League in the former Mithamain Sadar Union for a long time. As a dedicated worker of Awami League, he has played a significant role in strengthening the organization in the area. His death is an irreparable loss to local politics.
The President sought forgiveness for the late Abdur Rahman's soul and expressed his deepest condolences to his bereaved family.

Cox’s Bazar trawler capsize: 2 more bodies recovered
A Coast Guard team on Sunday fished out the bodies of two more fishermen from the Bay of Bengal, two days after a fishing trawler carrying 19 fishermen capsized amid inclement weather.
The deceased were identified as Anwar Hossain and Nurul Islam.
Local fishermen spotted the bodies at Najirartek Channel of the Bay in the afternoon and informed the coast guard, said Selim Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Cox’s Bazar Sadar police station.
So far, seven bodies have been recovered from the Bay, he added.
On Sunday morning, coast guard members recovered the bodies of three fishermen from Maheshkhali Sonadia channel.
They were Hossain Ahmad, Azizul Haque and Mohammad Absar, residents of Sadar upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

34 fishermen go missing as 11 trawlers sink in Bay
Thirty-four fishermen went missing as 11 fishing trawlers capsized in the Bay of Bengal amid inclement weather on Friday, Coast Guard said on Saturday.
Eleven trawlers including MV Mamoni (3), FB Saiful, FB Al Mamun, FB Kulsun, FB Rafique Majhi, FB Nurbanu and FB Mayer Doa and one each from Bhola’s Charfassion, Galachipa, Panpotti, Kalapara and Napita area of Barguna district with 160 fishermen capsized in the Bay between 12 pm to 10 pm on Friday, some fishermen of the sunken trawlers, who managed to swim ashore, told Coast Guard.
The missing fishermen hail from Charfassion and Alipur Fisheries port area, said President of Alipur-Kuakata Fish Wholesalers’ Association.

The fishermen said 126 of them managed to swim ashore when the trawlers sank due to strong current, said Nizampur Coast Guard Contingent Commander Selim Mandal.
Some of the fishermen are now undergoing treatment at Kuakata 20-bed Hospital and others.
Coast Guard members are conducting operations to trace the missing fishermen.

11 fishermen missing as another trawler sinks in Bay
At least 11 fishermen went missing in the Bay of Bengal Friday after another fishing boat carrying them capsized due to rough weather near Nazirartek Channel in Cox's Bazar, according to the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
Nineteen fishermen boarded the boat that got caught in a ferocious storm around 1pm and at least 8 of them were rescued by the Coast Guard members, said Jane Alam Putu, President of the Fish Traders Association.
The missing fishermen had gone into the Bay of Bengal in the fishing boat 'FB-Mayer Doa' to bait and catch fish for their businesses.
"A search and rescue operation is underway for the missing fishermen," BCG added.
However, the identities of the missing men could not be confirmed.
Earlier, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) advised the maritime ports, including Payra, to hoist the local cautionary signal three to alert vessels of a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal.

A depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining area has moved west-northwestward and intensified into a deep depression.
At 12pm, the depression was centered over northwest Bay and adjoining Bangladesh and India's West Bengal. It is likely to intensify further and move more northwestward.
The BMD advised all fishing boats in the northern Bay of Bengal and deep sea to take shelter immediately.

Two dead, two others missing in Noakhali trawler capsize
Two fishermen died and two others went missing after a trawler carrying 16 fishers capsized amid a heavy storm in the Bay of Bengal on Friday, police said.
The capsize occurred adjacent to Nijhum Dwip in Hatiya upazila of Noakhali district on Friday morning, said police.
The dead were identified as Mainuddin, a resident of Amtali village in Jahajmara union of the upazila and Md Raful of Notun Sukhchar village. The missing fishermen are Sharif and Belal.
Local resident Jillur Rahman said a total of 16 fishermen on board ‘MB Siraj’ fishing boat went to deep sea to catch fish a few days back. They were returning to ghat (an anchoring spot) after the catch on Thursday night.

The trawler was caught in a sudden storm and capsized after arriving in Dhamarchar area adjacent to the Nijhum Dwip around 10am on Friday, said he quoting the survivors.
Though 12 fishermen managed to swim to another trawler ‘MB Yeamin Chowdhury’.
Later, sailors from another trawler ‘Lutfullahil Mujib Nishan’ found bodies of the Mainuddin and Raful lying inside the trawler that got struck at the char, said he.
Kanchhan Kanti Das, inspector (investigation) of Hatiya Police Station, confirmed the incident.
Locals joined police and Coast Guard to search for the missing people, he said.

2 farmers go missing as trawler sinks in Padma
Two farmers went missing Saturday morning after a paddy-laden trawler capsized in the Padma river amid stormy weather near Louhajang turning point in Munshiganj district.
The missing farmers were identified as Helal Fakir,50, and Alo Fakir,60.
The trawler with 15 passengers , all farmers, on board sank in the river while theywere returning home after harvesting paddy at Arial Beel with some 150 maunds of paddy.

Thirteen farmers were rescued alive with the help of nearby vessels after the accident, said Abdul Awal, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Louhajang Upazila.
He said fire service men were informed while locals were trying to trace the missing farmers at noon.

“The trawler was moving defying the ban on trawler movement due to inclement weather and action will be taken in this regard,” said UNO Abdul Awal.
