A 55-year-old crew member of a sand-laden vessel went missing after it sank following a collision with a launch in the Meghna river off the coast of Charkishoregnj in Munsiganj on Wednesday night. The victim was identified as Lashkar Motaleb of Bhola district. Read: 5 die as trawler sinks in Dakatia River Inspector Zahurul Haque of Kalagachia river police, said the ill-fated vessel, ‘Makam-3’, with six crew members on board, capsized in the river after being hit by Barishal-bound 'MV Surovi-7' launch around 11pm. "Lashkar could not get out of the sunken vessel," said Sabuj, another crew member. 'MV Surovi-7’ was anchored after the accident. "The passengers of the launch escaped unhurt," the police officer said.

At least 20 people have been injured in a ferry accident in the Padma river in Munshiganj, officials said on Friday. The accident occurred when a Ro-Ro ferry, named Shahjalal, crashed into a pillar of the Padma bridge near the Mawa area of Munshiganj around 9am. Read:Ferry-launch suspended from Friday morning Though the front part of the vessel has been mangled, there was no structural damage to the bridge, the officials said, adding that all the injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals. Assistant general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport and Communication, Shafiqul Islam said that the passengers fell over each other as the ferry hit the pillar. "Some 33 vehicles that the ferry was carrying also sustained minor damages in the impact of the crash, which completely destroyed the pantry area of the vessel," he said. The bridge authority has expressed concern as three ferries have collided with the pillars this month only.

 A woman went missing after a potato-laden trawler capsized in the Meghna River near Kazipura in  Gajaria upazila of Munshiganj on Tuesday. The missing woman was identified as Belayetunnisa , 52, wife of Abdul Jalil of Molla Char in Munshiganj Sadar Upazila. The trawler sank in the Meghna at around 8:15 am. Three people managed to swim ashore but Belayetunnisa went missing, he said.
