6 RMG workers dead after bus runs them over on highway in Trishal
At least six workers of a garment factory were dead and eight others were injured when a speeding bus ran them over while they were waiting to board another bus on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Trishal upazila, under Mymensingh district, today (October 11, 2023).
Four of the deceased were identified as Jesmine Akter, 35; Sirajul Islam, 40; Sohel Mia, 28; and Liton Mia, 30, of Sadar upazila while the identities of two others could not be known immediately.
Quoting locals, Main Uddin, officer-in-charge of Trishal Police Station, said a Dhaka-bound bus of ‘SS Travellers’ from Sherpur made a sudden stop at Chelerghat around 7:30 am today, as one of its tyres got punctured.

Passengers of the bus got off and were waiting on the highway for another bus. Around 8 am, a bus arrived at the spot, and they tried to board it.
At this time, another bus, speeding on the highway, hit the people standing on the road -- leaving three dead on the spot and 11 injured.

Of the injured, three died on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Vehicular movement on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway remained halted for some time after the accident.

Another EC official dies of Covid in Mymensingh
Additional regional election officer of Mymensingh ABM Saifuzzaman died of Covid-19 on Tuesday. He was 45.
“He breathed his last at 11:20am at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital,” Mymensingh regional election officer (REO) Md Shahedunnabi Chowdhury told UNB.

Saifuzzaman was admitted to the hospital on Thursday last as he tested positive for Covid-19.
He left behind wife and two daughters to mourn his death. He will be buried at his village in Atpara Upazila of Netrakona district.
With Saifuzzaman, eight EC staff died of Covid-19 and some 200 staff got infected with the virus.

Of them, four EC staff died in July.
Sylhet REO Md Israil Hossain died on July 25 while Rajnagar Upazila election officer in Moulvibazar Alif Laila on July 7 last.

Samples of 10 people collected in Sherpur for Covid-19 test
Samples of 10 people have been collected in the district to ascertain whether they are infected with coronavirus.
Dr Mobarak Hossain, health and family planning officer of Sadar upazila, said the samples were collected until Friday.
“We’ve collected the samples and sent those to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for test,” he said, adding that some of the suspects are being treated at isolation units while the rest have been asked to maintain home-quarantine.
The samples include that of an official of the Department of Livestock Services in Jhenaigati upazila, he added.
