Another nilgai rescued in Thakurgaon
Another nilgai (blue buck, an antelope) has been found and rescued from Madhabpur village of Bairchuna union of Pirganj upazila on Friday evening.
Seeing the Nilgai roaming in the area, locals caught it after a chase and informed the UP chairman about it.
UP chairman Humi Sarker said the Nilgai was rescued from the village and later handed over to the Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB).

This is the fifth nilgai to be rescued in Thakurgaon in the last four years. Of these, four have died.
Earlier on November 26, an adult male nilgai was caught by a mob in Minapur village of Thakurgaon's Haripur upazila, which died of its injuries.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rezaul Karim said the nilgai is safe now. It has been kept in BGB custody. Necessary steps are being taken to transfer it to the Livestock Department, he added.

Nilgai is a large Asian antelope, usually brown or bluish grey, native to Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Nepal.
Nilgai was previously declared extinct in Bangladesh by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Indian nilgai dies of injuries in Thakurgaon
An adult male nilgai that was caught by a mob in Minapur village of Thakurgaon's Haripur upazila on Friday afternoon, died of its injuries hours later, officials said.
The nilgai had sustained injuries while rushing through the barbed wire fence along the border to enter Bangladesh from India, according to Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) officials.

"It was caught by locals in Minapur village as it strayed into agricultural fields. But we rescued it," said Haripur’s Karigaon BGB camp’s Naik Subedar Kafil Uddin.
The BGB members rushed the animal to Haripur Upazila Animal Resources Hospital but the nilgai died in the evening "due to excessive bleeding".

Haripur police officer-in-charge Tajul Islam said the animal died during treatment.

Nilgai dies trying to escape capture by villagers in Thakurgaon
A nilgai, the largest Asian antelope that was thought to be extinct in Bangladesh, was killed Friday while trying to escaping from villagers in Dharmagarh Muktar Basti area of Thakurgaon’s Ranishankail upazila.
Locals identified a nilgai in the area and tried to capture it. They chased it through the village.
At one point the nilgai jumped through the window of an under-construction house where it fell unconscious and soon died.
According to the locals, the nilgai had been seen roaming in the area for several days.
It was given first aid by the local veterinarian but it did not survive.

Upon information, acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Pritam Saha went to the spot.
He said the nilgai probably had a panic attack after being chased and died.
“We will talk to the Upazila Livestock and Forestry Department and take necessary legal steps. An autopsy will be done if necessary," he said.
In February, the BGB rescued an injured nilgai from the villagers who had captured it and was preparing to slaughter for its meat in the Baliadangi upazila.
BGB members rescued the nilgai and took it to Kantivita camp where the veterinary surgeon provided necessary treatment.

Besides, in September 2016, a nilgai was rescued from the side of Jaduar village in Ranishankail upazila of Thakurgaon. Local fishermen saw the nilgai along the Kulik River near Indian border and captured it.
The local administration, in collaboration with the forest department officials, rescued the nilgai and took it to Ramsagar National Park in Dinajpur.
