Killing of ex-DU teacher: Arrested mason remanded
A Gazipur court placed mason Anwarul Islam on a three-day remand on Saturday in a case over the killing of former professor of Dhaka University Saida Gaffar.
Gazipur Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court-2 Judge Mehedi Pavel Sweet passed the order after police produced the arrestee before it and sought a 10-day remand to interrogate him,said Dipankar Roy, sub-inspector of Kashimpur police station.
Saida Gaffar, a former Professor of Institute of Nutrition and Food Science of the university, was found dead at Kashimpur in Gazipur on Friday, two days after she had gone missing.

The professor was buried on Friday night at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard, said her family.

Ex-DU professor’s body recovered in Gazipur, suspected killer arrested
Former professor of Dhaka University Saida Gaffar was found dead at Kashimpur in Gazipur on Friday, two days after she went missing, police said.
She was a former Professor of Institute of Nutrition and Food Science of the university.

A mason Anwarul was arrested from Gaibandha district earlier on the day following a missing diary filed by the deceased's daughter Sahida Afrin at Kashimpur Police Station. He worked at the under-construction building of the professor.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Dipankar Roy of Kashimpur Police Station said Prof Saida’s body was recovered from a place away from her rented house at Panishail area in Kashimpur on Friday based on the arrestee’s information.

Mason ousted from CU campus for harassing a female student
A mason has been permanently barred from working in Chattagram University and its adjoining areas as punishment for harassing a female student of the university.
According to the CU authorities, mason Md Mased has been harassing the second-year student of Philosophy department for a week.
On Monday, the student's classmates detained the accused from a building next to AF Rahman Hall as he was found teasing the girl on her way to tuition.

University Proctor Rabiul Hasan Bhuiyan said Mased confessed to committing the offense. He has been barred from working in the campus and its adjoining buildings.
Action will be taken against him if he works as a mason inside the university, the proctor added.

3 arrested over mason's mysterious death in Chattogram
Three persons have been arrested in connection with the death of a 45-year-old mason, whose body was found hanging in the office of a union council member in Chattogram on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Nurul Alam, son of late Sharaf Ali of the Karnafuli area in the district's Charpatharghata union.

Police said on Wednesday they had made the arrests after an FIR was filed in the case at the local police station on a complaint of torture and murder by the deceased's family members.
The arrestees have been identified as UP member Asiya Khatun, 48, Korban Ali, 26 and Mohammad Parvez, 23.
Sources told UNB that Nurul had taken an advance of Tk 15,000 from Korban for the construction of his shop in the locality. A few days later, Nurul took another Tk15000 from Korban, following which a dispute broke out between the two and construction work was stopped for some days.

Mohammad Nazrul, son of the deceased, said, "The accused had called my father on Tuesday morning. We thought he went to the shop construction site. But later in the afternoon, I saw the police and local people in front of the office of Asiya."
"If my father had committed suicide, they would have informed us. But they reported the death to the police to sort it out. It is clear that they had planned my father's murder," he added.
However, Mohammad Dulal Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Karnafuli Police Station, said that the exact cause of death would be ascertained only after an autopsy.

"We have arrested the three on the basis of Nazrul's complaint. The accused told us that they had locked up Nurul in the female upazila council member's office and went out for lunch. When they returned they saw his body hanging from the ceiling," the OC said.
The body has been sent to the morgue of Chittagong Medical College and Hospital for autopsy, the police officer said.
