Munshiganj, Oct 2 (UNB) – The ferry services on the Shimulia-Kathalbari route resumed on Friday, 28 hours after the suspension due to poor navigability.

Ferry service on the key Shimulia-Kathalbari river route has been suspended as dredging work is going on to bring back the channel’s navigability.

The authorities have decided to allow goods-laden vessels use the Shimulia-Kathalbari ferry route on trial basis.

Ferry operation on Shimulia-Kathalbari route in Munshiganj has been suspended due to erosion threat amid strong current in the Padma River.

Hundreds of people, mostly readymade garment workers, are returning to their workplaces through Shimulia-Kathalbari route as some factories reopen amid a government-announced shutdown to curb the transmission of coronavirus.

Ferry operation on Shimulia-Kathalbari route remained suspended since early Tuesday due to dense fog, causing sufferings to hundreds of passengers amid shivering cold.
