Election 2024: List of winners from Barishal division
The Awami League won a comfortable two-thirds majority for a fourth election in a row on Sunday (January 07, 2024), in 299 out of 300 constituencies, and a strong showing by independent candidates as predicted.
Ruling party candidates won in 222 seats in Sunday’s election, while independent candidates — most of them belonging to AL — won 62 seats.

National Cricket League: Barishal beat Chattogram by 78 runs
Barishal Division earned a laudable 78-run victory over Chattogram Division on the 3rd day of the four-day National Cricket League that concluded at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday.
Chattogram Division with first innings total 87 runs, resumed the 2nd innings with a target of 199 runs to win, but were bundled out cheaply again scoring 120 runs to suffer a huge defeat.
In the day’s another match, Dhaka Division took 111- run lead over Rangpur Division on the 3rd day of the four-day National Cricket League (NCL) at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Replying to Dhaka Division’s first innings total 394 runs, Rangpur Division resumed the first innings with overnight score 96 for 3 and were all out for 321 runs in 116.5 overs, featuring a superb innings of Ariful Haque.
Number six batsman Ariful Haque hammered a polished 98 runs off 118 balls with five fours and four sixes, overnight batter Nasir Hossain (16) made 66 runs off 164 balls hitting six fours and two sixes while another nightwatch batter Naeem Islam (32) contributed 55 runs off 140 balls with three fours and one six.

Shuvagoto Hom and Nazmul Islam captured four wickets each conceding 74 and 132 runs respectively.
In reply, Dhaka Division opened the 2nd innings Tuesday afternoon and scored 38 for no loss in 22 overs to take 111 runs lead against Rangpur with Rony Talukder and Abdul Mazid were on batting with 21 and 17 runs respectively.
At the Academy ground of Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, hosts Sylhet Division needed another 91 runs in the 2nd innings on the 4th and final day of the national Cricket League on Wednesday to win against Khulna Division.
Having 196 runs in the first innings, Khulna Division resumed the 2nd innings with overnight total 46 for 3 in 14 overs and were all out for 178 runs in 45.5 overs with Nahudul Islam making 48, Ziaur Rahman 47 and captain Mohammad Mithun 46 runs.

Rejaur Rahman Raja grabbed five wickets for 51 runs while Eanmul Haque Jr and Tanzim Hasan Shakib took two wickets each giving away 50 and 56 runs respectively.
Chasing a target of 203 runs, Sylhet Division with first innings total 172 runs, opened 2nd innings Tuesday afternoon and scored 112 for 3 in 49. 5 overs. They needed another 91 runs on the 4th and final day (Wednesday) to win the match.

Barishal division logs 14 deaths in 24 hrs
Barishal division has logged 14 new Covid deaths in the past 24 hours, health officials said on Sunday morning.
Of the deceased, five were confirmed Covid patients while the remaining six showed symptoms of the virus.

Among them, 10 died at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH), the officials said.
Divisional Health Director Dr Basudev Kumar Das said that 595 patients have died of Covid-19 in the division so far.
Besides, 393 people have tested positive for Covid in Barishal division in the past 24 hours, he said.

Some 41,155 active Covid patients have been identified in the division to date, according to the officials.
Moreover, 166 Covid patients are currently undergoing treatment at the corona unit of SBMCH.

Covid claims 14 more lives in Barishal
Barishal division has logged 14 new Covid deaths in the past 24 hours, health officials said on Friday morning.
Of the deceased, nine had tested positive for Covid-19 while the remaining five showed symptoms of the virus infection.

Six of them died at Sher-E-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH), while the others in different hospitals, the officials said.
Divisional Health Director Dr Basudev Kumar Das said that 585 patients have died of Covid-19 in the division so far.
Besides, 473 people have tested positive for Covid in Barishal division in the past 24 hours and of them, 221 are from Barishal district alone. So far, 16,670 people have been infected in the district.
Some 40,592 active Covid patients have been identified in the division to date, according to the officials.
Currently, 194 Covid patients are undergoing treatment at the 300-bed Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital.

Meanwhile, 19 new Covid patients have been admitted to the hospital’s Covid unit in the past 24 hours, the officials said.
So far, 158 people have died of Covid-19 and 888 with symptoms at the hospital.
On the other hand, 23,282 people have recovered from Covid in the division to date.

Barishal division has logged 13 new Covid deaths in the past 24 hours, health officials said on Wednesday morning.
Of the deceased, six had tested positive for Covid-19 while the remaining seven showed symptoms of the virus infection.

Ten of them died at Sher-E-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH) while the others died in different hospitals, the officials said.
Divisional Health Director Dr Basudev Kumar Das said that 569 patients have died of Covid-19 so far in the division.
Besides, 389 people have tested positive for Covid in Barishal division in the past 24 hours.
Of them, 152 are from Barishal district alone. So far, 16,323 people have been infected in the district.

On the other hand, some 39,742 active Covid patients have been identified in the division to date, the officials said.
According to SBMCH authorities, 210 Covid patients are currently undergoing treatment at SBMCH and of them, 64 are confirmed cases.

According to SBMCH authorities, 27 more patients have been admitted to the hospital in 24 hours till Monday morning.
Moreover, 73 Covid patients are currently undergoing treatment at the corona unit of SBMCH and 154 in the isolation ward of the hospital.

Barishal division has logged 20 new Covid deaths in the past 24 hours, health officials said on Sunday morning.

Covid claims 28 more lives in Barishal
As many as 28 more people have died of Covid-19 in Barishal division in the past 24 hours, officials said on Friday.
Of them, 14 were Covid-positive patients while the remaining had symptoms of the virus.

Besides, some 624 new cases were detected during the period, said divisional health director Basudeb Kumar Das.
The fresh cases have taken the division’s death tally to 528 and the caseload to 37,622.
Of the recent Covid fatalities, 16 people died at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital while others passed away in district and upazila health complexes, said Basudeb.
Currently, 280 Covid patients are undergoing treatment at the 300-bed Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital. Meanwhile, 36 new Covid patients have been admitted to the hospital’s Covid unit in the past 24 hours, the officials said.

So far, 336 people have died of Covid-19 and 845 with symptoms at the hospital.
On the other hand, 20,489 people have recovered from Covid in the division to date.

Barishal logs 32 new Covid deaths
Amid an alarming surge in the Delta variant of Covid-19 in Bangladesh, Barishal division on Thursday morning recorded as many as 32 new Covid deaths in 24 hours.
Of the deceased, 15 were confirmed Covid patients while the remaining 17 showed symptoms of the virus, health officials said. And of them, 19 died at Sher-E-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH) alone.
Divisional Health Director Dr Basudev Kumar Das said that 514 patients have died of Covid-19 in the division so far.
Besides, 858 people have tested positive for Covid in Barishal division in the past 24 hours. Of the fresh Covid cases in the division, 335 are from Barisal district alone. Some 36,998 active patients have been identified in the division to date.

According to SBMCH authorities, 41 more patients have been admitted to the hospital in 24 hours till Thursday morning.
Moreover, 343 Covid patients are currently undergoing treatment at the corona unit of SBMCH. Of them, 120 are confirmed Covid patients.
