TCB to cater to 1 crore low-income families on Tuesday
State-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will start selling essential items at fair prices for one crore low-income families across the country from Tuesday (January 10, 2023).
"Some 10 million families across the country, with cards, will be able to buy the essential items," said a press release signed by Md Humayun Kabir, information officer of the Dhaka Regional office.

Each cardholder can buy 1 kg of sugar at Tk 60, 2 kg of lentils at Tk 70 per kg and two litres of soybean oil at Tk 110 per litre.
Eligible people have to buy the items from the shops of distributors or at designated places, it added.

TCB begins sales of essential items for low-income families
State-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) Tuesday began selling essential items at fair prices for 1 crore low-income families across the country, marking the month of mourning.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi inaugurated the sales initiative in Dhaka's Mohammadpur area this morning.
"Some 10 million families across the country having cards will be able to buy the essential items in phases," Tipu said.

He also warned of strict action against anyone found indulging in any irregularities in selling these essentials.
Each cardholder can buy 1kg of sugar at Tk 55, 2kg of lentils at Tk 65 per kg, two litres of soybean oil at Tk 110 per litre, and 2kg of onion at Tk 20 per kg.

This time, the corporation will not sell essential items on trucks rather eligible people have to buy the same from the shops of the distributors or at designated places.

Better housing: Hasina distributes flats among 300 low-income families
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday distributed newly-constructed flats among 300 low-income families as they were living in slums, enabling them to avail of civic amenities.
She handed over the allocation papers of the new flats in 14-storey three buildings on rental basis.

The flat distribution programme was held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre. The prime minister joined it from her official residence Ganobahban.
The flats have all the facilities of a modern urban residence like lift, generator, solar power, wide walkways, power substations, open spaces and beautification through illumination.
The daily rent for every 672-sqf flat, having a drawing room, one kitchen and separate bathrooms, has been fixed at Tk 150, while the monthly rent at Tk 4,500.
The Ministry of Housing and Public Works implemented the project at Mirpur 11 in the capital from its own financing. This is the first phase of relocating slum residents to better housing.
