A farmer was killed allegedly by his son following a dispute over a motorcycle in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat district on Saturday evening. The deceased was identified as Akkas Ali, 57, hailing from Bafalgari village under Punot union in the upazila. According to police and local sources, Akkas Ali’s son Golap Hossain, 29, had long been demanding that his father buy him a motorcycle with money earned from selling potatoes grown on their land. However, Akkas reportedly refused to meet the demand. An argument broke out between the father and son shortly before iftar on Saturday. At one stage, Golap allegedly attacked his father with bamboo sticks and sharp weapons including a knife and a machete, leaving him injured. When Akkas’s wife Abeda Begum and their daughter tried to protect him Gopal  also assaulted them, leaving both seriously injured. Locals later rescued the victims and took them to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura where doctors declared Akkas Ali dead on the way. The injured mother and daughter were admitted to the hospital. Police, with the help of villagers, arrested the accused son Golap Hossain from the spot. Officer-in-Charge of Kalai Police Station Rafiqul Islam said the son was detained. “Legal action will be taken following an investigation,” he added. Assistant Superintendent of Police (Circle) Tuhin Reza visited the scene on Saturday night.  

A visually impaired father died after by his son pushed him to the ground over family disputes in Mohammadpur Upazila of Magura on Thursday, police said. The deceased was identified as Monoronjon Biswas,73. He was a resident of Nohata Union of Mohammadpur Upazila. Two people were arrested over the matter, confirmed Nasir Uddin, the Officer-in Charge of Mohammadpur Police Station. “The father and son locked horns on a very silly matter today and at one stage Monoronjon fell on the ground after being pushed and was hit on the head,” he said. Read: Son ‘kills’ father in Tangail “He got unconscious right after being pushed to the ground and was immediately rushed to a local medical facility where the on-duty doctor declared him dead,”  the officer added. However, he refused to draw any conclusion without an investigation on whether the son intentionally killed his father or if it was an unfortunate accident. He also informed that a case was filed over the incident.
