Fugitive convict arrested in Savar after 16 years
Members of Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), a specialized unit of Bangladesh Police, arrested a fugitive convict from Dendabar at Ashulia in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital on Wednesday night.
The arrestee was Lutfur Rahman, 55, son of Abdul Fakir of Panchbibi of Joypurhat district.
Based on information, a team of ATU conducted a drive in the area around 8 pm and arrested him.
He remained absconding for the past 16 years, said a press release of ATU issued on Thursday.
59-year-old convicted prisoner of Dinajpur jail dies in hospital
According to the release, Lutfur along with his associates attacked Majibor Rahman at his house in Sadar upazila of Joypurhat district and stabbed him to death on December 17, 2007. They also looted valuables including gold ornaments and cash from the house.
A Razzaque, son of Majibor, was also injured in the attack.

Later, a case was filed in this connection with Sadar Police Station against three people including Lutfur.

Drug peddling: Fugitive convict arrested from Gazipur after seven years, says Rab
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) said they arrested a "convicted drug peddler," who had been on the run for seven years, from Gazipur's Kashimpur early Friday.
The arrestee was identified as Abdul Ahad alias Limon alias VP Limon, 34. He was sentenced to life in prison in a case under the Narcotics Control Act.

Tipped off, a team of Rab-2 conducted a drive in Kashimpur around 3:55am and arrested Limon, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md Fazlul Haque, senior additional director (media) of Rab-2, said.
On September 24 in 2014, Limon was arrested with "a large haul of drugs" and a case was filed against him at Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station.

"He was later released on bail after spending two years behind the bars. After that, he continued selling illegal drugs, faking his identity," Fazlul said.
"Efforts are on to catch Limon's associates. He was handed over to Palashbari Police Station in Gaibandha," he added.

Photojournalist Aftab murder case: Fugitive convict held in Dinajpur
Members of Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), a specialized unit of Bangladesh Police, have arrested a fugitive death-row convict in photojournalist Aftab Ahmed murder case.
They arrested Raju Munshi, 25, son of Nurul Islam Munshi of Patuakhali district, from Shalgram bordering area in Phulbari upazila of Dinajpur district on Wednesday.
Tipped off, a team of ATU conducted the drive in the area and arrested Raju from the bordering area.
On December 25, 2013, Aftab, 78, of Daily Ittefaq, an Ekushey Padak recipient, was found dead at his West Rampura Wapda Road residence.
Driver Humayun, Habib and Billal subsequently made a confessional statement before the court that they had strangled him to death while committing robbery in his house.

Billal looted Tk 72,000 from his residence and shared the money with the others involved in the killing, according to police.
Aftab received the coveted Ekushey Padak in 2006.
Monowar Ahmed Sagar, son of Aftab, lodged a complaint with Rampura Police Station. Police registered a murder case later.
On March 28, 2017, a speedy trial tribunal sentenced five people including Raju to death and another one to seven years imprisonment in the case.
Meanwhile, the High Court also upheld the lower court order sentencing five people to death and another one to seven years imprisonment.
Police arrested Raju in 2013 and he went into hiding after securing bail from the court.

Biswajit Das murder: Another fugitive convict held in N’ganj
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members have arrested a fugitive convict who had been on the run since his conviction in Biswajit Das murder case in 2013.
Md Yunus Ali,36, son of Khondokar Yakub Ali of Magura, was arrested on Monday morning from Kellapur area in Naryanganj during a drive of Rab-2, said Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md Fazlul Haque, senior additional director (Media) of RAB-2.
He was sentenced to life imprisonement in the murder case.

During primary interrogation the convict confessed to his involvement in the murder and legal action are underway against him, he said.
On December 9, 2012, tailoring shop employee Biswajit was chopped to death by some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists near Bahadur Shah Park in Old Dhaka during the BNP-led alliance's countrywide road blockade programme.
On December 18, 2013, a speedy trial tribunal sentenced eight BCL activists to death and 13 others, including Yunus ,to life imprisonment in the murder case.
In 2017, The High Court upheld the life term jail sentence of accused Yunus Ali in his absence.

On August 6, 2017, the High Court also upheld the death sentences of Rafiqul Islam Shakil and Rajon Talukder and commuted the capital punishment of four other convicts — Mahfuzur Rahman Nahid, Emdadul Haque Emdad, GM Rasheduzzaman Shawon and Mir Nurul Alam Liman — to life term.

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Monday arrested a fugitive convict who had been on the run since his conviction in Biswajit Das murder case in 2012.
The arrestee was Mosharraf Hossain alias Abdullah, 34, of Kishoreganj. He was sentenced to life in jail in the case.

Fugitive convict held in city
A fugitive convict, sentenced to life imprisonment in Zillur Bhandari of Rangunia upazila in Chattogram district, was detained by the members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) from Kamarpara in Turag of the capital, said Rab on Sunday.
The convict was identified as Tota Mia.
Md Nurul Absar, Senior Assistant director of Rab-7, said the elite force detained Tota from the capital on Saturday night, seven years after the murder of Zillur Bhandari in 2015.

Zillur Bhandari was shot dead by miscreants in front of Ranirhat Primary School in Rangunia upazila on January 21, 2015.
Azim Uddin, brother of Zillur, lodged a complaint with Rangunia Police.
Police registered an FIR in this connection.
On February 14, 2022, a court sentenced two people to death and six others to life imprisonment.

Biswajit Das murder case: Fugitive convict held in Faridpur
Police on Tuesday night arrested a fugitive criminal who had been on the run since his conviction in the 2012 Biswajit Das murder case.
Imran Hossain Imran, who was sentenced to life in jail in the case in 2013, was nabbed from a house in Char Bishanpur village of Faridpur's Sadarpur upazila, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, a team conducted a raid in the area and arrested Imran around 10.30 pm, said Subrata Goldar, officer-in-charge of the Sadarpur police station.
Imran will be produced in the court on Wednesday, the OC said.
