5 killed by lightning strikes in C’nawabganj, Naogaon
Five people were killed and another injured in separate lightning strikes in Chapainawabganj and Naogaon districts on Monday.
In Chapainawabganj, three people, including two farmers, were killed in separate lightning strikes in Sadar, Gomostapur and Bholahat upazilas on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Omar Ali, 52, a farmer from Sadar upazila’s Jamtala area, Shariful Islam, 35, a resident of Gomostapur upazila’s Prosadpur area, and Anowar Hossain, 60, a farmer from Bholahat upazila’s Mushrivuja area.
Lightning kills 3 in Chapainawabganj
Omar was killed as a streak of lightning hit him while working in a field, said Sadar upazila’s UNO Rowshan Ali.
Anowar died when a thunderbolt struck him while working in a paddy field, said Officer-in-Charge of Bholahat police station Selim Reza.
Shariful was struck by lightning while he was sitting on the porch of his house, said Gomostapur police station's officer-in-charge Mahbubur Rahman.
In Naogaon, two people were killed and another injured in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Porsha and Dhamoirhat upazilas of the district in the morning.
Lightning kills 2 farmers in Kushtia
Zahurul Islam, officer-in-charge of Porsha Police Station, said Abdul Jabbar, 30, son of Nazrul Islam of Paschim Duarpal village, was killed and Mehedi Hasan was injured when a streak of thunderbolt struck them while catching fish in the Punarbhaba River around 6 am.
Mehedi was taken to a local hospital.
Meanwhile, Muminul Rahman, 22, son of Azizur Rahman of Moishar village in Dhamoirhat upazila, was killed by the lightning strike while working at a paddy field at noon, said Mozammel Haque, officer-in-charge of Dhamoirhat Police Station.

Lightning kills woman, daughter in Kishoreganj
A 55-year-old woman and her daughter were killed as a thunderbolt struck them at Belonka village in Tarail upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Asma Akter, wife of Mujibur Rahman and her daughter Yeasmin Akter, 35,wife of Nurul Amin of the village.

Joynal abedin, officer-in-charge of Tarail Police Station, said a streak of thunderbolt struck them while they were trying to save paddy and husk from rain after sehri.
Later, they were taken to Tarail Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead.

3 killed by lightning strike in Jamalpur
Three people in Jamalpur’s Islampur upazila were killed by lightning strike.on Sunday afternoon
The incident occurred at around 3 pm in the Kandarchar village of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Sundar Ali Sarder, 65, son of Bhola Sarder; his grandson Rafiq Sarder, 14, and Mosharraf Hossain, 25, son of Mofazzal Hossain, all from Kandarchar.
It was learned that they were working in the field when they were struck by a thunderbolt, and Sundar Ali died on the spot.

Critically injured Rafiq died at Kandarchar Hospital Complex, and Mosharraf was referred to Jamalpur Sadar Hospital but died on the way there, according to the OC of Islampur Police Station Mazedur Rahman.

2 farmers killed by lightning in Bogura
Two farmers were killed when a thunderbolt struck them at Agrapanch baria village in Shahjahanpur upazila of Bogura district on Saturday evening.
The deceased were- Shahidul Islam, 28, son of Abul Hossain and Rakibul Hossain alias Rakib, 27, son of Khoka Mia of the village.

Quoting witnesses, Nannu Khan, inspector of Shahjahanpur Police station,said a streak of thunderbolt struck on Shahidul and Rakib while they were planting chilli on their field, leaving them dead.
Lightning strikes in Bangladesh
Lightning strike has turned into one of the deadliest natural disasters in Bangladesh claiming over 200 lives every year due to the loss of natural defense and lack of precautionary measures.

According to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, 2,164 people died in lightning strikes in the country from 2011 to 2020. At least 216 people die every year on average in lightning strikes, more than by floods, cyclones and other natural calamities.
Experts said about 70 percent of the total lightning strikes usually occur between April and June, and advise everyone to move with caution during this time.
