3 held for thrashing disabled man in Bhola
Three people caught on video thrashing a disabled man in Bhola have been arrested, police said on Friday.
The arrestees have been identified as Taposh Mridha, Promila and Rina, all residents of Nomo village in Lalmohan upazila, said Md Maksudur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Lalmohan police station.
Police swung into action after the video of the incident went viral on social media.

In the video, the three people could be seen brutally beating up Joy Chandra Mistry with sticks after tying him to a pole inside a temple in Nomo village.
Joy had to endure the torture till his father rescued him and took him to upazila health complex. His only crime was that he had slapped one of Taposh’s relatives Thursday morning, following an argument, locals said.
A case has been filed in this regard after the victim's father lodged a complaint against five people, said OC Maksudur Rahman.

Joy’s father Shyamol Chandra Mistry said, “They have tortured my son many times in the past as he is disabled and we are poor. I demand justice for my son.”

Man arrested for thrashing two girls in Savar
Police arrested a man on Monday on charge of harassing and thrashing wo sisters at Savar ferry ghat. The accused was identified as Md Selim, a local muscleman accused in several other cases including a Narcotic case in 2017, said Kazi Mainul Islam officer-in-charge of Savar Model police station. Earlier, on Sunday mother of the two girls filed a complaint against two people, mentioning Selim as the main accused at the Savar Model police station. According to the complaint, on Saturday night the victims were returning home at Kaundia upazila in Savavr from Mirpur. As they reached the Kaundia ferry ghat around 9:30 pm Selim waylaid them and sexually abusing the elder sister.
As they protested Selim verbally abused them and started beating both of them with an umbrella with the help of his nephew Ripon. As people started gathering, hearing cries of the victims, Selim and Ripon ran away leaving them severely injured.

Locals later took them to Savar Upazila health complex. The elder sister said, “ Selim hugged me with ill intentions and as we protested he thrashed us.”
After filing axcsse Kaundia police outpost in-charge Harunur Rashid conducted a drive at the Kaundia bazar area and arrested Selim.

Thrashing is the price Thakurgaon youth pays for love
Youths sometimes move with an unusual speed when it comes to love, and get married keeping their families in the dark that lead to ugly family fights.
Nasirul Islam, 21, son of Khalilur Rahman and Keyamoni, 18, daughter of Karimul Islam of Bhangbari village in Ranishankoil upazila of Thakurgaon district did the same thing, inviting troubles for themselves.
Villagers said the youth was tied to a tree and tortured brutally allegedly by his in-laws for marrying the girl.
The incident took place on Monday but it came to light on Thursday as a video clip of the incident went viral on social media, sparking off huge criticisms and prompting the police to take legal steps.
