College teacher killed in tire explosion in N'ganj
A 35-year-old college teacher was killed and his wife injured when a tire of a speeding truck exploded in the Siddhirganj area of Narayanganj on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Jasimuddin Jasim, 35, a lecturer at Mirpur University College, hailing from Faridpur's Alfadanga.
The victim's wife Zubaida Sharmin,22, is now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College (DHMC) Hospital, said Bacchu Mia, inspector of the DMCH police outpost.

Zubaida said that around 12pm, the wheels of the moving truck exploded while they were waiting for a bus to go to Mirpur at a bus stand adjacent to Chittagong Road Fish market. Both of them got injured and fell on the road.
A pedestrian named Sujon brought them to DMCH where Jasim succumbed to his injuries around 7pm, inspector Bacchu Mia said.
"The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy,'' said the inspector, adding that the concerned police station has been informed.

Natore college teacher who married student found dead
The body of college teacher Khairun Nahar, 42, who married a 22-year-old student last year, was found dead at her rented flat in Boladipara area of the district town on Sunday morning, said police.
The deceased was an assistant professor of Philosophy department of Khubjipur Mozammel Haque Degree College in Gurudaspur upazila of the district.
Her husband Mamun Hossain , a second year student Bachelor Degree of Arts (B.A. Pass Course) of Nawab Siraj-Ud-Dowla Government College, was detained.

Though they got married on December 12 last year the matter came to light on July 31 this year. The couple faced huge cyber bullying on social platform Facebook over their marriage.
Abul Kalam Azad, inspector (investigation) of Natore Sadar Police Station, said they detained Mamun for interrogation in this connection.
Meanwhile, a team of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) inspected the scene and collected samples from the flat, said he.
Mamun claimed that Khairun committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan with her scruff. Later he brought down her body by setting fire on the scruff as he found nothing to cut it off, said the inspector.
Besides, caretaker of the house Khalil told the police that Mamun came out of the house around 2:00am and returned after an hour.
He also came out of the house in the early morning and called the caretaker informing that his wife Khairun committed suicide.
Subsequently, the caretaker informed the matter to the house owner putting Mamun under lock and key in the flat, said the police officer, adding that on information, they recovered the body from the flat.

College teacher Utpal murder: Prime accused held in Gazipur
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Wednesday detained the prime accused in Savar college teacher Utpal Kumar Sarker murder case from Gazipur district.
The arrestee is a class IX student of Haji Yunus Ali School and College at Ashulia of Dhaka’s Savar upazila college.

Based on secret information, an operational team of the Rab-1 conducted a drive in Sreepur of Gazipur in the evening and detained the teenager around 7:00 pm, said ASP (media) Imran Khan of Rab headquarters.
Earlier, Ashulia thana police arrested the 9th grader’s father Uzzal Hossain , another accused of the case from Kushtia, four days after the teacher was beaten to death in broad daylight in Savar .
Uzzal was hiding with his family since the murder.
Although Uzzal was arrested his other family members managed to flee during a police drive.
Police said they recovered the cricket stump that was used in the killing.
According to Md Kamruzzaman, Officer In-charge (OC) of Ashulia police station, based on secret information Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Sub Inspector (SI) Emdad Hossain arrested Uzzal from Kushtia’s Kumarkhali upazila.
Police sent Uzzal to a court in Dhaka seeking a 10-day remand.
Students and teachers of the college alleged that the student killed Utpal, head of the disciplinary committee of the college, in a pre-planned way.

“Utpal sir had caught the student (prime accused) with a girl inside a classroom and informed the family of the girl about the matter, which had created anger in him. That’s the reason why the student beat up Utpal sir to death on the sports day,” said a student of the college.
According to the college authorities, no CCTV footage of the crime was found as the cameras recorded nothing at that moment due to power outage.
The college authorities suspect that the boy had disconnected the power supply before killing Utpal.
Utpal Sarker, 35, son of Ajit Sarker of Engeldani village under Sirajganj’s Ullapara police station, had been serving as a teacher of Haji Yunus Ali School and College for almost ten years.

Severing college teacher’s wrist: Seven held in Kushtia
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members have arrested seven people over attempting to kill a college teacher by severing his right wrist at Shalghar Modhua village in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia on Friday.
The arrestees were Mosharof Hossain Mosha, 26, son of Md Soleman, Nazim Uddin, 27, son of Mokaddes Hossain, Md Samad, 27, son of Abdul Khaleque, Muhaimen Hossain, 27, son of Aiyub Ali, Halim, 40, son of Samed Ali, Md Palash, 23, son of Abdul Khaleque and Md Mukul, 42, son of Gopal Sheikh.
All the arrestees are residents of the same village.

RAB members have seized three rounds of bullet, magazines and a foreign pistol from their possessions. The arrestees have confessed to their involvement in the crime during primary interrogation.
In a press briefing on Saturday, Squadron Leader Mohammad Ilias Khan, company commander of Kushtia Camp of RAB-12, said Tofazzel Hossain is an assistant professor of Economics Department at Bashgram College of the upazila.
He came under attack as a sequel to previous enmity between two groups over establishing supremacy at Kushtia Sadar upazila’s Bongshitola area on May 31.

Victim’s son Nazmus Sakib filed a case with Kushtia Model Police Station accusing 26 people, including 5/6 unnamed onews, for the attack the next day.

Narsingdi college teacher held for beating students with aluminum pipes
The principal of a college in Palash upazila of Narsingdi has been detained allegedly for beating up 16 students of class XII with aluminum pipes, police said on Tuesday.
Amir Hossain Gazi, the principal of Palash Central College, was detained on Monday evening from his residence in Panditpara of the upazila, said Md Elias Mia, officer-in-charge (OC) of Palash police station.

The students informed that most of the students of science group left the classroom on Sunday on information that the teacher would not come to take the sixth class of the day. But the teacher came to the class and then a small number of students joined the class.
On the following day, principal Amir Hossain Gazi entered the classroom with an aluminum pipe and beat up around 16 students who remained absent in the previous day’s classs, leaving them seriously injured, alleged the students.
The incident sparked anger among the students and their parents. The students posted photographs of the incident on social media, demanding justice.

Meanwhile, District Secondary Education Officer Gautam Mitra said a three-member probe committee headed by Upazila Education Officer Milon Krishna Haldar has been formed. “Next step will be taken as per the report of the committee.”
Principal Amir Hossain Gazi said, "I only brought the students under discipline. Now some people are trying to tarnish my image by making it an issue.”
