The Armed Police Battalion on Friday arrested a Rohingya man on suspicion of his being involved in the killing of Rohingya leader Mohib Ullah in Cox’s Bazar.   The arrestee was identified as Md Selim alias Lomba Selim, 27, a Rohingya citizen living in Ukhiya Rohingya camp. Later, he was handed over to Ukhikya Police Station, said the SP. Earlier on Thursday night, police have registered a murder case in connection with the killing of Rohingya leader Mohib Ullah at Ukhiya camp in Cox's Bazar on Wednesday night. The FIR for murder was filed against unknown persons at the Ukhiya police station on on a complaint from Mohib Ullah’s brother Habib Ullah, said officer-in-charge Sanjur Morshed. Unknown assailants gunned down Mohib on Wednesday night. He was first rushed to a local medical facility and later shifted to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Read:Rohingya leader Mohib Ullah buried in Ukhiya camp He was buried in Lambashia camp-1 in Ukhiya upazila on Thursday afternoon after his namaz-e-janaza, which was attended by a large number of Rohingya refugees from camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf upazilas. Formerly a teacher in Myanmar, the slain activist was popularly known as Master Mohib Ullah among the Rohingya refugees. He was the head of Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights (ARSPH) at Kutupalong camp.

The United Nations (UN) has condemned the killing of Rohingya leader Mohib Ullah and sought a proper investigation into it. Mohib (44) was allegedly shot to death at a Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazaar by unknown gunmen on September 29. Read: US calls for 'full & transparent' probe into Mohib's murder "The United Nations urges the Bangladesh authorities to undertake an investigation and to hold those responsible to account," said Stephanie Tremblay, Associate Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General. The UN also urged continued strong international support for the protection and support to the Rohingya communities anywhere in the world, including in Bangladesh. The UN will continue to firmly provide its support in this endeavour." The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) also expressed its deep shock and sadness at the killing of Mohib Ullah.

The United States has called for a "full and transparent" probe into prominent Rohingya leader Mohib Ullah's killing, with an aim of bringing the perpetrators of the crime to justice. Mohib (44) was allegedly shot to death at a Rohingya camp in Bangladesh by unknown gunmen on September 29. "Mohib Ullah was a brave and fierce advocate for the human rights of Rohingya Muslims around the world. We urge a full and transparent investigation into his death with the goal of holding the perpetrators of this heinous crime accountable," he said. The US Secretary of State said that Mohib travelled to the Human Rights Council in Geneva and to the United States to speak at the Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom in 2019.
