Sahinuddin murder: Court asks PBI to submit probe report on Dec 20
A Dhaka court Tuesday asked Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to submit its report on December 20 on re-investigation in a case over businessman Sahinuddin murder in the capital’s Pallabi area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tariqul Islam passed the order as PBI failed to submit the report today.
On May 12, the court directed PBI to re-investigate the case and submit a report after accepting Sahinuddin's mother's no-confidence petition.

On February 15, Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Syed Iftekhar Hossain, investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against 15 people including MA Awal, a former MP of Laxmipur-1 constituency, in the case.
The other accused in the charge sheet are- Sumon Bepari, Md Taher, Md Golam Kibria Khan, Md Murad, Titu, Md Roki Talukder, Nur Mohammad Hasan, Md Sharif, Iqbal Hossain, Md Tarikul Islam Emon, Tuhin Miah, Md Harunur Rashid, Md Shafikul Islam Shafik and Ibrahim Sumon.
Among them, Shafik and Ibrahim Sumon are on the run while all 13 accused, including Awal, are behind the bars now.

On May 16 last year, one Sahinuddin was hacked to death in Pallabi over a land dispute in front of his six-year-old son Mashrafe.
On the following day, Aklima Begum, the mother of Sahinuddin, filed a murder case against 20 people including Awal at the Pallabi police station. The case was later handed over to the DB.
On May 20 of the same year, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Awal from Bhairab. After that Awal failed to secure bail in the lower court and he applied for it at the High Court which was also rejected.

Sahinuddin murder: HC rejects former MP Awal’s bail
The High Court has rejected the bail of MA Awal, a former MP of Laxmipur-1 constituency, in connection with a case of hacking a person to death in the capital’s Pallabi area.
The HC bench of Justice Farid Ahmed and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim passed the order on Tuesday.
Deputy Attorney General Bashir Ullah confirmed that the bail had not been granted.
Advocate Ruhul Quddus Kajal was in favor of the application in the court. Deputy Attorney General Bashir Ullah was on behalf of the state.

On May 16, one Sahinuddin was publicly hacked to death in Pallabi over a land dispute. The six-year-old son of the deceased, Mashrafe, witnessed the incident.
Aklima Begum, the mother of Sahinuddin, claimed that her son was called out of his house and killed due to a dispute over land. She filed a murder case against 20 people including Awal at the Pallabi police station. The case was later handed over to the DB.
In the case statement, Aklima Begum mentioned that on May 16 at 4 pm, two young men named Sumon and Titu called Sahinuddin out of his home, saying that the land dispute he was involved in would be settled.
When Sahinuddin reached the meeting spot in Pallabi’s D-block on a motorcycle, 14-15 people including Sumon and Titu dragged him into the garage of the house (Hs #40, Rd 31).

Then in front of Sahinuddin's six-year-old son Mashrafe, the miscreants hacked him with machetes and Chinese axes. He was then taken out of the house and hacked to death in front of house-36 of the area.
Aklima Begum alleged that her son had been killed by the managing director of Haveli Properties Developers Limited in Pallabi’s section-12, also ex-MP MA Awal, with the help of local miscreants as part of a dispute 10 acres of land worth Tk 5 crore.
On May 20, RAB arrested Awal from Bhairab. After that Awal did not get bail in the lower court and he applied for it at the High Court.

Sahinuddin murder: Another accused arrested in the city
Police said on Friday that they arrested another man accused of being involved in the sensational murder of businessman Sahinuddin from the city’s Shahbagh area.
Mohammad Taher is the 14th accused arrested by police since the May 16 killing of the businessman by some miscreants in city’s Mirpur allegedly over a land dispute with MA Awal, a former member of parliament.

Taher was picked up on Thursday after police detectives tracked him through digital technology, said Md Saiful Islam, additional deputy police commissioner of Mirpur zonal team of Detective Branch of police.
He is one of the listed accused in the murder case filed at Pallabi police station.
According to the case Sahinuddin’s land dispute with Awal began in 2004 over the ex-MP’s Alinagar Project.
It said that on May 16 some miscreants called Sahinuddin into a garage at D-block in Mirpur-12 for resolving a land dispute and hacked him to death with sharp weapons in front of his seven-year-old son.
On May 17, following a FIR filed by Shahinuddin’s mother police filed a murder case at Pallabi police station.
On May 21, Rab arrested former Lakshmipur-1 lawmaker Awal from Kishoreganj's Bhairab area for planning the murder.
Police have arrested a total 14 people for involvement with the murder so far.

Of them nine are named as accused in the case while the other five were arrested during the investigation.
The arrestees are, MA Awal, Sumon Bepari, Md Titu, Md Dipu, Babu, Md Murad, Kalu Kibria, Mohammad Taher, Rocky Talukder, Nur Mohammad Hasan, Iqbal Sharif and Manzurul Hasan Babu.
