Yonex-Sunrise Int'l Badminton Challenge begins Wednesday
The Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh International (Badminton) Challenge' 2022, begins on Wednesday (December 7) at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium, adjacent to Bangabandhu National Stadium here.
Minister for Textile and Jute Golam Dastagir Gazi MP will inaugurate the meet Wednesday morning, organised by Bangladesh Badminton Federation, under the supervision of Badminton World Federation and Badminton Asia.
Secretary to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Mesbahuddin will also present as special guest. Former parliament member and Managing Director of China-Bangla Ceremic Industries Sirajul Islam Mollah will also present at the function to be chaired by BBF president and Information Commissioner Dr Abdul Malek.

Some 251 shutters, including 108 women from 17 countries will compete in the meet, a regular International Badminton competition of Bangladesh.
Participating countries are: India, Thailand, Turkiye, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia. Canada, Mongolia. Indonesia, Bahrain, Japan, Maldives, Iran, Germany, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and hosts Bangladesh will compete in the meet.

BPL Football: Arambagh KS pull off biggest upset outplaying Sheikh Jamal DC 3-1
Bottom-ranked Arambagh KS pulled off the biggest upset in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football, outplaying former champion Sheikh Jamal DC by 3-1 goals at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.
Despite the victory, Arambagh KS remained at the bottom of the 13-team league securing five points from 16 matches.

In the match, Arambagh KS not only tasted the first victory in the league but also took revenge of their embarrassing 6-0 goals defeat against Sheikh Jamal in the first phase league.
With the day's maiden defeat in their 15 league match, Sheikh Jamal DC went to third place in the league table after Bashundhara Kings (43 points) and Dhaka Abahani Ltd (32) with their previous credit of 32 points from 15 encounters.

In Tuesday’s match, both sides had scored a goal in the first half.
Gambian forward Omar Jobe put Sheikh Jamal ahead in the 15th minute (1-0) while Uzbek striker Islomjon Abdukadyrov restored the parity for Arambagh KS in the stoppage time (45+1) of the first half (1-1).

Midfielder Omar Faruq and local forward Nihat Zaman Ucchash scored two quick goals for Arambagh KS in the span of only three minutes (54th and 57th) to seal the fate of the match much to the frustration of three-time champion Sheikh Jamal.

BPL Football: Baridhara taste 2nd victory crushing Brothers 3-0
Uttar Baridhara tasted their second victory in the 13-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football, beating Brothers Union 3-0 in the battle of two bottom-ranked teams Monday.
The winners dominated the first half 1-0 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Egyptian midfielder Mostafa Kahraba scored twice for Baridhara in the 14th and 63rd minutes while local defender Mohammad Sujon Biswas netted another goal in the 78th minute.
With the day's feat, Baridhara Club advanced to the 10th slot in the points table. Muktijoddha remained at 11th spot, securing 12 points from 15 matches and Brothers at 12th spot with five points from 16 matches.
Three league matches will be held on Tuesday at the same venue.
Three times champions Sheikh Jamal will play Arambagh, the team with the lowest standing and points in the league, at 4pm, Sheikh Russel will face Chittagong Abahani at 7pm while Saif SC will encounter Muktijoddha at 9pm.
Bashundhara Kings have so far dominated the league, securing 43 points from 15 matches while Dhaka Abahani and Sheikh Jamal have occupied the second and third spot in the league standings with 32 points each.

BPL Football: Mohammedan move to 4th spot beating Sheikh Russel 1-0
Dhaka Mohammedan advanced to the fourth spot in the points table of 13-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football after beating former champions Sheikh Russel 1-0 Saturday.
Burkina Faso defender Mounzir Coulidiati scored the match-winning goal for Mohammedan at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the 37th minute of the match with a brilliant header off a corner of Habibur Rahman Shohag (1-0).

This was the third straight victory for Mohammedan in the second phase of the league, followed by their victory against Arambagh and Saif.
Mohammedan, which advanced to fifth place beating Saif in the last match, today moved one step ahead, pushing Sheikh Russel to fifth place.

Meanwhile, Bashundhara Kings (43 points), Dhaka Abahani (32) and Sheikh Jamal (32) have occupied the top three spots in the league points table.

BPL Football: Belfort nets hat-trick as Abahani crush Rahmatganj 6-0
A brilliant hat-trick by Haitian forward Kervens Belfort inspired Dhaka Abahani to a 6-0 win against Rahmatganj in the 13-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football Friday.
Abahani, which split points with Police FC in a 2-2 draw in the second phase opener and outplayed Brothers Union 5-2 in the next match, moved to the second spot in the points table with the result.
In the day's one-sided affair at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, six-time champions Abahani took lead in the 27th minute when Rahmatganj's Tajik defender Khurshed Beknazaov sent the ball to his net while trying to turn down a shot at the goal.

Abahani's Haitian forward Kervens Belfort scored the first hat-trick in the second phase of the game, netting three goals in the 37th, 43rd and 62nd minutes.
Local defender Mamun Miya and Afghan defender Masih Saighani scored two more goals for Abahani in the 65th and 85th minutes.
Dhaka Abahani and Sheikh Jamal have so far secured 32 points each from 15 and 14 matches, but Abahani have advanced to the second slot with a better goal difference, pushing Sheikh Jamal to the third spot.

Rahmatganj now remains in the eighth slot with 14 points from 15 matches.
Star-studded Bashundhara Kings have already dominated the league table comfortably with an unbeaten record, securing 40 points from 14 matches.

BPL Football: Mohammedan move to 5th spot beating Saif 2-1
Dhaka Mohammedan advanced to 5th spot in the points table of 13-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football, beating Saif Sporting 2-1 in a second phase match Wednesday.
With the day's feat at Bangabandhu National Stadium, Mohammedan not only moved to 5th place but also avenged their 2-1 defeat against Saif in the first phase league.

Mohammedan has so far secured 25 points from 14 matches while Saif has slipped to the sixth slot, from 5th place, with their previous credit of 23 points from 14 encounters.
Earlier, Mohammedan made a good start to the second phase beating their neighbour Arambagh 2-1, riding on a double strike of Mali forward Souleymane Diabate.

After a barren first half in the day's match, Cameroon striker Yassan Quatching put Mohammedan ahead in the 52nd minute (1-0), while Maraz Hosssin restored the parity for Saif in the 69th minute (1-1).
Souleymane, who scored twice in Mohammedan's 2-1 victory over Arambagh in the last match, again came to his team's rescue, scoring the match-winner in the 83rd minute (2-1).

Two dramatic goals in five minutes enabled league leader Bashundhara Kings to maintain their unbeaten record in the 13-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) beating Bangladesh Police FC by 2-0 goals at the floodlit Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Tuesday.
Earlier, title aspirants Bashundhara Kings made a flying start in the 2nd phase opener outplaying Uttar Baridhara Club by 6-0 goals.
After a long time, two local booters -- Towhidul Alam Sabuz and Topu Barman-- guided the Kings towards victory despite the presence of Brazilian and Argentine star players,scoring two dramatic goals in a span of only four minutes.
After a barren first half, national forward Towhidul Alam Sabuz put the Kings ahead in the 58th minute by a good header, utilizing a cross of Brazilian player Robson Robinho (1-0).
National coloured defender Topu Barman sealed the fate of the match scoring the 2nd goal in the 62nd minute, also by a header, utilizing a corner of another Brazilian booter Fernandes (2-0).
Earlier in the 16th minute, Police custodian Himel deprived the Kings from goal foiling a penalty, taken by Robinho.
With the day's 13th win, the Kings poised for their 2nd league title as they comfortably dominated the league with unbeaten record securing 40 points from 14 matches, eleven points ahead of their nearest rivals..Bangladesh Police, which forced Dhaka Abahani to play 2-2 in the previous match, remained at 9th slot with 13 points fron 14 matches.

Six-time champion Dhaka Abahani Ltd returned to winning run in the second phase of the 13-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football outplaying lowly Brothers Union Club by 5-2 goals at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.
Sky-blue popular Dhanmondi outfit Abahani, which miserably split points with Bangladesh Police FC in 2-2 affairs in their second phase opener, clearly dominated the first half by 3-0 goals against their Gopibagh outfit.
Despite the day's comfortably victory, Abahani remained at the 3rd slot in the league table with 29 points from 14 matches while Brothers Union are struggling to avoid relegation with their previous credit of five points. also from 14 encounters.

In the day's match, Nigerian recruit Sunday Chizoba (22nd minute), defender Nasir Chowdhury (40th minute), medio Jewel Rana (44th minute), Haitian forward Kervens Belfort (62nd minute) and Rubel Miya (79th minute) scored one goal each for Abahani.

BPL Football: Mohammedan SC make good start beating Arambagh KS 2-1
Traditional giants Dhaka Mohammedan SC made a good start in the 2nd phase of the 13-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football beating their neighbour Arambagh KS by 2-1 goals at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Saturday.
Mali forward Souleymane Diabate scored both the goals for the black & white team, first in the very 9th minute and other in the stoppage time (90+2) minute of the match.
Lowly Arambagh KS reduced the margin by a gifted goal when Mohammedan defender Habibiur Rahman Shohag sent the ball his own net while trying foil an opponent attempt in the 46th minute.
After the match, Mohammedan SC remained at 6th slot in the 13- team league securing 22 points from 13 matches while Arambagh KS remained at the bottom with only one point from 13 encounters.

BPL Football: Bashundhara crush Baridhara 6-0
Bashundhara Kings made a flying start to the second phase of the 13-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football Friday, outplaying Uttar Baridhara Club 6-0.
Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), which was forced to cancel last year's BPL Football after only six rounds due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
However, BFF is now determined to complete the league amid the new spike in Covid-19 cases and newly extended lockdown in the country.
Due to countrywide lockdown, all the BPL matches are being held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium instead of four venues.
In the second phase opener on Friday, the Kings dominated the first half 3-0. Argentine forward Raul Becerra scored twice for them in the third and 63rd minutes.
Brazilian striker Robson Robinho also scored two goals in the 34th and 91st (90+1) minutes while Brazilian midfielder Jonathan Fernandes netted the other two for the Kings in the 10th minute and 55th minute of the match.
With the day's result, Robson Robinho took the solo lead in the scorer list with 14 goals, followed by Raul Becerra with 13 goals and Gambian forward Sheikh Jamal Omar Jobe with 12 goals.
The Kings have comfortably dominated the league so far with an unbeaten record, securing 37 points from 13 matches, leaving nearest rivals Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Dhaka Abahani at second and third in the points table.
After conceding the sixth defeat in the league, Uttar Baridhara Club went down to the 11th slot in the 13-team league with their previous credit of nine points from 13 matches.
