BMCCI holds seminar on legal compliances for companies
A seminar on “Legal and Regulatory Compliance for Companies” was held at the secretariat of Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) on Sunday.
The BMCCI organised its 9th LegalTalk seminar where Barrister Syed Afzal Hassan Uddin, Managing Partner, and Barrister Nazia Kabir, Partner, Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed & Associates elaborated on the topics, said a press release.

BMCCI’s Senior Vice President Shabbir Ahmed Khan said the seminar was organised to provide valuable insights and information on all kinds of company compliances that may affect your business, as well as strategies to optimise your business planning.
Barrister Syed Afzal Hassan Uddin, Managing Partner, Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed & Associates, clearly mentioned how the business environment came over so well despite the bitter past in policy and overall business situation. At the same time, other companies that have invested in Bangladesh are dissuaded by their past bitter experiences.

BMCCI advocates for business-friendly environment in meeting with deputy governor of central bank
The Board of Directors of the Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI), led by President Syed Almas Kabir, meet with Deputy Governor Kazi Sayedur Rahman of the Bangladesh Bank to discuss key issues affecting the Bangladesh and Malaysian business community.
The meeting was attended by Senior Vice President Shabbir Ahmed Khan, Secretary General Md. Motaher Hoshan Khan, and Director Mahbubul Alam Shah.

During the meeting, President Syed Almas Kabir shed light on the challenges faced by general clients in cross-border e-commerce refunding. He also emphasized the importance of streamlining the remittance flow through proper banking channels from Malaysia. For effective management of these issues, BMCCI expressed its interest in partnering with Bangladesh Bank to overcome the challenges.
Senior Vice President Shabbir Ahmed Khan highlighted the significance of promoting bilateral trade with Malaysia and urged for the implementation of appropriate policies to attract foreign direct investment (FDI). Secretary General Md. Motaher Hoshan Khan addressed the trade gap with Malaysia and emphasized the need to address policies that restrict export volumes.

In response, Deputy Governor Kazi Sayedur Rahman expressed gratitude to the BMCCI delegation for raising these important issues. He requested the chamber to provide pinpointed proposals for review, assuring them that the Bangladesh Bank will handle these matters with utmost importance.
The Deputy Governor also emphasized the importance of attracting remittance by providing services such as mobile applications for ease of money transfers, rather than relying solely on incentives. He urged BMCCI to focus on increasing export volumes and diversifying the exportable product to minimize the trade gap effectively.

At the end of the meeting, BMCCI delegates echoed their promises to remain committed for fostering a business-friendly environment and enhancing economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Malaysia. The chamber will continue to work closely with Bangladesh Bank to address the challenges faced by businesses and promote bilateral trade growth.

MATRADE Export Acceleration Mission from Malaysia visits BMCCI secretariat
The Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) has hosted delegates from the MATRADE Export Acceleration Mission on Monday at the BMCCI secretariat.

BMCCI holds river cruise on Shitalakshya
The Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) recently organised a river cruise for its members and stakeholders on the River Shitalakshya in Narayanganj's Rupganj upazila.
The chief patron of the BMCCI and Malaysian High Commissioner Haznah Md Hashim, Vietnamese Ambassador Pham Viet Chien, and Singapore Consul Sheela Pillai joined the cruise.
They visited the riverine communities of Zamdani Palli. The members also explored Islamic art and architecture at the historic Murapara Zamindar Bari.
Also, live music, games, and a raffle draw kept the participant entertained throughout the journey.

Barrister Nihad Kabir, senior partner at Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed and Associates, discussed the relevant legal issues and guidelines on several policies that make doing business easier in Bangladesh.
BMCCI Senior Vice-President Shabbir Ahmed Khan said the seminar was organised for those who want to understand the law that corresponds with doing business in Bangladesh.
The participants got to know about the Competition Act, dispute resolution, and other issues like company law, Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, and technical know-how related to doing business in Bangladesh.

BMCCI inks MoU with DPMM to enhance trade, investment ties with Malaysia
Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) Monday inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (DPMM) to enhance trade and investment ties with Malaysia.
BMCCI President Syed Almas Kabir and DPMM President Abd Halim Bin Husin signed the agreement in Dhaka.
Almas Kabir hoped that the deal would play a vital role in elevating the trade and investment relationship between Bangladesh and Malaysia. "The bilateral trade ties has been expanding in recent years."
BMCCI is always trying to enhance collaboration between its members and Malaysian business communities, which helps them know each other and expand trade ties, he added.
Abd Halim, also a vice-president of the National Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia, expressed his satisfaction with the overall trade and investment situation of Bangladesh and hoped that the existing ties would get stronger in future.

He arrived in Bangladesh along with a business delegation to participate in the D-8 Chambers of Commerce (D-8 CCI) summit.
BMCCI Vice-President Shabbir Ahmed Khan, Joint Secretary General Rubaiyat Ahsan; directors Sifat Ahmed Chaudhuri, and Md Mamunur Rahman were also present at the meeting.

Syed Almas Kabir elected BMCCI president
Syed Almas Kabir, Chief Executive Officer of MetroNet Bangladesh Limited and Md. Motaher Hoshan Khan, Director of Bengal Technological Corporation Ltd. have been elected President and Hon. Secretary General respectively of the Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) for the term 2022 & 2023.
They were elected at the 20th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Sunday, BMCCI said in a media release on Monday.
Shabbir Ahmed Khan, CEO of Khan & Deen Traders and M Riyaaz Rasheed, acting CEO of Robi Axiata Limited, have been elected Vice Presidents.

BMCCI to highlight trade, investment opportunities in Bangladesh
Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) will celebrate its 20th anniversary on December 13 in conjunction with the historic celebration of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Golden Jubilee of the Independence of Bangladesh.
The “BMCCI 20th Years Anniversary Celebration” flagship event will highlight attractive trade and investment opportunities in Bangladesh.
Considering the current global economic trends, bilateral trade and investment between two such close Asian neighbours carry more national and regional importance than ever, said the BMCCI leaders.

In addition to the 20 years celebration, the programme will explore key trade and investment opportunities that exist for Bangladesh in particular from its Malaysian counterpart.
BMCCI President Raquib Mohammad Fakhrul (Rocky); and BASIS President and Chairman of organizing committee of the “BMCCI 20 Years Anniversary Celebration” Syed Almas Kabir briefed the media on Saturday highlighting the upcoming event. Directors of the BMCCI were present.
BMCCI President Raquib said Bangladesh is one of the fastest-growing countries in terms of economic growth and Malaysia being the sixth largest importing country of the world with a positive balance of payment has immense potential.
“We need to explore the potential considering the present economic scenario and could be ensured through establishing a bilateral alliance,” he said.

The BMCCI chief said the Chamber represents a milestone in the evolution of Bangladeshi interests in Malaysia and Malaysian investments in Bangladesh and vice versa, which is foundational in the bilateral relations.
He also said he feels the Chamber will expand trade and economic interaction for the benefit of not only Bangladesh and Malaysia but also of its trade partners. “Most importantly, it will help grow our influence as an economic base in the South East Asian markets in the regional context.”
Syed Almas Kabir said the objective of the celebration is to Facilitate and promote business opportunities for South-East Asia businesses and BMCCI members; provide a forum for networking, mentoring, and consultation for South-East Asia businesses and BMCCI members growth; bringing unity of South-East Asia business owners.
He said the event promote products and services of both Bangladesh and Malaysian corporations and BMCCI members that support the advancement of South-East Asia Pacific.
Syed Almas Kabir also briefed the press about the programme details of the event and mentioned that Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will attend the programme as the chief guest.
The press conference started with one-minute silence in honour of the founding President of BMCCI AKM Shahidul Islam.
