It is a simultaneous Tamil and Telugu film directed and written by Venky Atluri, while the Telugu version is titled Sir. Several changes were made to the Telugu version of the period film, including changing the name of the lead character to Bala Gangadhar Tilak and changing the name of the school to Tirupati Educational Institution.
Dhanush's role here is that of a third-class junior lecturer in an educational institution, who stands up to institutions whose commercial interests are bigger than educating children.
Produced by Fortune Four Cinemas and Seethara Entertainments, Dhanush's lead co-artist is Yukta Menon. After the theatrical release, Netflix took over the OTT streaming rights of the film.
