Arafat appreciates Chinese support for Bangladesh’s development
State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat on Sunday appreciated China for its everlasting and firm support for Bangladesh’s national development and construction.
He noted that the Chinese side has made significant contribution to the promotion of the Bangladeshi people’s wellbeing.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen met the State Minister and discussed issues of mutual interest.

The two sides had in-depth discussion on people-to-people exchanges, communication, and media cooperation. Zhang Jing, Political Director of the Embassy, was present at the meeting
The Bangladeshi side is ready to further deepen bilateral practical cooperation with China in various fields, said the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka.
Personnel and cultural exchanges are fundamental for promoting people-to-people contact, it said.

He is willing to make his own contribution to the friendly cooperation between the two countries on cultural exchanges, communication and media cooperation during his tenure in the present office.
Ambassador Yao congratulated Arafat for his assumption to office, and reiterated China’s consistent and unswerving support for Bangladesh in safeguarding national sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, unity and stability, and in opposing external interference.

Under the joint guidance by the two leaderships, the China-Bangladesh Strategic Partnership of Cooperation has kept advancing, said the Ambassador.
Over the past years, he said, personnel and cultural exchanges have become a promising growth point for bilateral relations.
"China stands ready to work with Bangladesh to further enhance such exchanges, promote mutual learning on media and communication, thereby strengthen the bonds between the two peoples," said the American.

TIB’s report on polls meet no international standards: State Minister for Info Arafat
Censuring Transparency International Bangladesh’s (TIB) research report on the recently held national election, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat said on Thursday that the TIB’s report does not meet international standards, and its statement is illogical.
He made the remarks while talking to reporters in the conference room of the secretariat in the capital.
“Those who conducted this research have no research experiences. They have no research work published in international journals,” he said.

The state minister said the TIB's report has exceeded “scientific misconduct” and they are trying to mislead people with lies.
"I believe the civil society of Bangladesh will conduct research following international standards with honesty and sincerity and present its findings before the people," he said.
Calling the TIB’s report as its own opinion, Arafat said the Election Commission took action against those who violated electoral code of conduct and even cases have been filed against them.

“In the report the EC’s strict position against irregularities was not highlighted, rather efforts were made to weaken the mindset by spreading lies,” he said.
"I can challenge the TIB, I want to challenge it; Let them send research to an international standard journal, they won’t publish it. If they publish, I will accept that they have researched it,” the state minister said.
"I can say with certainty that any journal of international standard won’t accept it as a research, let alone publish it. As it did not follow any method of international standards,” Arafat asserted.

The state minister also said that the report was prepared with absolutely misinformation and it is very sad but true that it has been done.
Questioning the experience of the researchers, he said l.
He said that the people who are involved with the so-called research have no experiences in the fields of elections and political science. Most of them do not have any publications in international journals.

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prof Mohammad A Arafat, the new face in Sheikh Hasina's Fifth Cabinet, on Monday said the country is getting to enjoy peace and prosperity thanks to Bangabandhu's daughter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, being in charge of running the affairs of state.
The minister said this while addressing a reception accorded to him at Kalachandpur Government High School and College ground, part of his constituency of Dhaka-17 on Monday evening.

At the same time, Arafat said, "We have to remain alert about those who hurl petrol bombs on people and vehicles and even burn people to death by torching trains to destroy the peace of the people.”

"People were not scared by the fear shown by the terrorists; they went to vote in the winter morning," he said, adding, "We have surveyed that 24 to 25 percent of voters in any constituency do not live in the area." Arafat thanked the people of his constituency and sought their blessings for performing their duties smoothly.

Stand together against disinformation campaigns from abroad: Dr Murad
State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Murad Hasan has stressed the need for standing together against all sorts of disinformation campaigns conducted from abroad against Bangladesh and the government.
The State Minister was addressing the officers of the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington D.C. at an exchange of views programme on the importance of Public Diplomacy while referring to the recent violence during Durga Puja.
He stressed the need to strengthen public diplomacy for building a positive image of Bangladesh abroad.
The meeting, held recently, was presided by the Ambassador of Bangladesh to the USA, M. Shahidul Islam.
