Pre-polls violence: 30 injured in Bhola
At least 30 people were injured as supporters of two chairman candidates clashed in Shibpur union of Bhola Sadar upazila.
The incident occurred on Thursday night as supporters of Awami League-backed chairman candidate Jasim Uddin and independent candidate Sirajul Islam Rakib at around 8 pm as the were holding ralies.

During the hour-long clash, supporters of both groups beat and hacked each other, vanalised houses and set fire to four election offices. Cocktail explosions occurred at Ratanpur and Santipur Bazar areas, said the locals.
Later, police and RAB brought the situation under control.
Both groups held each other responsible for the clash.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) and executive magistrate Md Ali Shuja said that supporters of both groups have been removed from the streets and the situation is now under control. Legal action will be taken if any further attempts are made.
The fifth phase of the election in the union will be held on 5th January.

Pre-polls violence: 1 hacked to death in Brahmanbaria
A person was hacked to death ahead of the Ratanpur union parishad election in Brahmanbaria’s Nabinagar upazila.
The deceased was identified as Masud Mia, a resident of Khagatua village and a supporter of independent chairman candidate VP Maruf.
It was learned that Masud was hacked by opponents including advocate Rob Mia, Shafiq Mia, Alam Mia, Fazu and Liton Mia on Thursday morning when he stopped at a tea shall with his niece on their way to the hospital.
Sharmin Akhter, the niece of the deceased, said that they were going to see a doctor in Brahmanbaria early in the morning. When they stopped by a tea stall at Khagatua Bazar, some people came with sharp weapons, led by boat symbol supporters Rob Mia, Shafiq Mia, Alam Mia, Fazu and Liton Mia.

“My uncle was hacked twice by his opponents, once at the spot and then in a CNG autorickshaw,” she said.
Masud was rushed to Nabinagar Sadar Hospital in critical condition. As his condition deteriorated, he was being taken to Dhaka and died on the way.
Independent chairman candidate VP Maruf claimed that Masud had been brutally killed as part of the planned attack on his supporters.
Meanwhile, boat symbol candidate Syed Zahid Hossain Shakil said the issue must get a fair trial. "None of my activists and supporters were involved in the incident. It occurred due to their previous dispute," he said.

Nabinagar police officer-in-charge Aminur Rashid claimed it to be an isolated incident.
Police have been deployed at the spot. Legal action will be taken on the basis of the complaint, he said
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ekramul Siddique said legal action would be taken on the basis of an investigation.

Jashore pre-polls violence: Injured man dies at DMCH
A man, who was hacked during pre-election violence in Jashore’s Sharsha upazila on Tuesday, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Mostafizur Rahman Dhabak, 42, son of Khatib Dhabak of Bagachara union of the upazila and a supporter of rebel chairman candidate AH Khaleq.
AH Khaleq Dhabak alleged that on that night, supporters of chairman candidate Ilias Kabir Bakul (boat symbol) hacked Mostafizur Rahman with sharp weapons and he was admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital(DMCH) with serious injuries.
According to locals, supporters of candidate Ilias Kabir Bakul attacked rebel candidate AH Khaleq Dhabak’s procession when it reached near Baitul Mamun Jame Mosque in the area, leaving Mostafizur and two injured .
Later they were admitted to DMCH for advanced treatment.

As the death news spread, supporters of rebel chairman candidate AH Khaleq gathered at Bagachara Bazar on Saturday morning and burned tires, halting traffic movement.
The rebel candidate’s supporters also vandalized the election office AL candidate.
Later police brought the situation under control.

Officer-in-Charge of Sharsha Police Station Badrul Alam said a tense situation has been prevailing at Bagachra following Mustafizur’s death and additional police have been deployed to avoid trouble.

2 hacked dead, 10 hurt in Meherpur pre-polls violence
Two brothers were hacked to death and 10 people injured in a clash centering the upcoming union parishad elections in Gangni upazila of Meherpur district on Monday morning.
The deceased were identified as Jaharul Islam, 55, and his brother Sahadul Islam, 50, sons of Sultan Miah of Laxminarayanpur Dhalagram village.

UP member Azmain Hossain Tutul, also a candidate, said when he went to seek votes in the village some supporters of rival UP member candidate Atiar Rahman attacked them with sharp weapons, leaving the two brothers dead on spot and several others seriously injured.
Tutul took shelter in a nearby house. Police later rescued him and admitted him to Gangni Hospital.
Besides, six other injured people were sent to Kushtia Medical College and Hospital in critical condition.
Tutul also said that his younger brother Enamul Hossain Nailu was hacked to death by Atiar Rahman’s people a few years ago and a case is still pending in the court.

However, Atiar Rahman could not immediately be reached for comment.
Md Bazlur Rahman, Officer-in-charge of Gangni Police Station, said additional police have been deployed at the spot after recovering the bodies of the two brothers and the situation is now under control.
However, no case has been filed yet in this regard, the OC added.

15 hurt in Pabna pre-polls violence
At least 15 people were injured, including three with bullet, in separate clashes Manikhat and Hatkhali unions in Sujanagar upazila of Pabna district on Sunday night ahead of the union parishad elections.
Those who sustained bullet injuries were identified as Motaleb, 37, son of Milon Khan, Sagar, 35, son of Abdul Majid and Fazlu, 55, son of late Abdur Rahman Khan of Bonkola village.

A clash broke out between the supporters of Awami League-backed and independent candidates in Manikhat union around 8:30 pm.
Another clash broke out around 11:30 pm at Swagata Bazar in Hatkhali Union.
Awami League-backed candidate for the post of chairman of Manikhat UP Shafiul Islam said supporters of independent candidate Abbas Ali Mallik vandalized one of our election offices and set it on fire.
“When the news spread, the supporters of the AL brought out a procession towards the Bonkola bazar when the people of a rival candidate opened fire at us, leaving 10 of our activists injured,” he alleged.
The injured were sent to Pabna General Hospital. However, critically injured Motaleb was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.
