AL leader Faruk murder case: 10 convicts acquitted, 2 sentenced life imprisonment
A Tangail court on Sunday acquitted ten people and sentenced two people to life imprisonment in a case filed for killing Awami League leader Faruk Ahmed in 2013.
Judge of the Tangail Additional District and Session Judge Md Mahmudul Hasan handed down the punishment.
The lifers are—Kabir Hossain Kabir, son of Mokhlesur Rahman and Mohamamd Ali, son of Ramjan of the district. Both of them were tried in absentia.
The court also fined them Tk 5 lakh each, in default, to suffer one year more in rigorous imprisonment.
Those who were acquitted are—former MP Amanur Rahman Khan Rana, former Tangail municipality mayor Shahidur Rahman Khan Mukti, Zahidur Rahman Khan Kakon, former vice president of central unit banned Chhatra League Saniat Khan, Bappa, Babu, Alamgir Hossain, Nasir Uddin Nuru, Masudur Rahman and Farid Ahmed.
According to the prosecution, police recovered the bullet-hit body of former AL leader Faruk Ahmed from near his College Para residence on January 18, 2013.
Nahar Ahmed, wife of the AL leader, filed a case with Tangail Sadar Police station on the following day.
Police arrested Anisul Islam Raza and Mohammad Ali in 2014.
Three killed over trivial matter in Tangail’s Nagarpur
Following the confessional statement of them, the names of former MP Rana and his three brother’s involvement was found in the case. After that they went into hiding.
Later, Rana surrendered before the court. He later secured bail in 2018 and since then he had been on the run.
On February 3, 2016, police submitted chargesheet against 14 people including AL leader Rana in the case.
During the trial proceedings Anisur Rahman Raza and Mohammad Sami died while the plaintiff of the case also died.

Banani double rape case: Shafat, 4 other accused acquitted
A Dhaka court on Thursday acquitted all five accused, including Shafat Ahmed, from the charges of raping two girls in a hotel in the capital’s Banani area in 2017.
Safat Ahmed is son of Apan Jewellers co-owner Dildar Ahmed Selim.
The other accused are Nayeem Ashraf, Safat’s friend Sadman Sakif, Shafat's driver Billal Hossain and bodyguard Rahmat Ali.

Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 Judge Begum Kamrunnahar passed the acquittal order in presence of the accused as the prosecution failed to prove the charges brought against them’.
The delivery of the judgment was rescheduled twice-on October 12 and October 27.
On June 7, 2017, investigation officer of the case Inspector Ismot Ara submitted a charge sheet to the court against five accused.
On June 19, the tribunal accepted the charge sheet.
On May 6, 2017, one of the two abused girls filed the case with Banani Police Station against five persons including Shafat and Sadman Sakif.

According to the case statement, Safat and Nayeem raped the plaintiff and her friend on March 28 at The Raintree Dhaka in the capital's Banani area while the three others assisted them.
The victims were acquainted with Safat through Sadman two weeks before the incident and they were tricked in attending a grand program at the hotel on that day, said the statement.
