At least seven people were killed and six others injured after a rice-laden truck plunged into a roadside ditch on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla district early Tuesday. The deceased were identified as Sohrab hossain, son of Alam of Khalibpur village, Afzal Hossain, son of Azad Mia, Salek, son of Fazlur Rahman of Nababganj upazila, Sumon, son of Palash Mia, Bishu, Abul Hossain, son of Mazharul Islam and Abdur Rashid, son of Rakibullah of Birampur upazila in Dinajpur district. Iqbal Bahar, Inspector of Daudkandi Highway Police said the accident occurred around 3 am when the Chattogram-bound rice-laden truck from Dinajpur skidded off the road and fell into a ditch, leaving seven people killed on the spot and six others injured. The injured were taken to local hospital. A total of 13 people travelling on top of the truck were trapped underneath after the accident. Vehicular movement on the highway was disrupted for some time following the accident. Police seized the truck but could not arrest its driver and helper.    

At least two people were killed and three others injured when a log-laden truck overturned on the busy Mahalchari-Jaliyapara road in Guimara upazila of Khagrachhari early on Tuesday. The deceased were identified as Md Raju, 35, and Md Ilias, 36, two workers from Gacchabil village in Manikchhari upazila. The accident occurred around 7am when the truck driver lost control of the overloaded vehicle, police said. Also read: Cop mowed down by truck in Dinajpur "The truck overturned near the Toikarma area, leaving the two workers travelling in the vehicle dead on the spot," said Md Rashid, officer-in-charge of Guimara police station. The injured were first taken to Manikchhari upazila health complex. "From there, two of them were shifted to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital. Their condition is critical," said the OC.  A woman was killed as  a truck hit her  in front of a school in Netrakona district town on Monday morning.

A truck driver, who was beaten in Bhabaniganj Shibzait area of Bagmara upazila on Friday night for running the vehicle on two goats, died at a hospital early Saturday.

Eight people were killed in separate road crashes in Bhaluka and Nandail upazilas of Mymensingh district Saturday morning.
