Missing child’s body recovered in Joypurhat
Police have recovered the body of a third grader three days after she went missing in Khetlal upazila of Joypurhat.
The deceased was identified as Tasnia Akter, daughter of mason Ershad Ali of Shalban village and student of Sunrise Pre-Cadet School at Bottoli Bazar.
Her body was found in a sack inside a cowshed at the house of her neighbor Ekramul Haque on Friday evening, said Khetlal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Karim.
Police arrested two women—Kumkum Begum, wife of Ekramul and his aunt-in-law Anjuara Begum while Ekramul managed to flee.
Woman’s hanging body recovered at Dhaka’s Chawkbazar
Police and locals said Tasnia went missing on Wednesday evening and her father filed a general diary (GD) with Khetlal Police Station the next day.
On Friday, locals detected a foul smell coming from Ekramul’s cowshed and later found the body of the girl in a sack.
Police were informed and later they recovered it.
OC Abdul Karim said the body was sent to Joypurhat 250-bed General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The motive behind the killing is yet to be known, he added.

Missing 4-year-old Ruhi found dead in septic tank, four arrested
The quiet village of Himail in Joypurhat’s Kalai upazila was shaken by a grim discovery on Friday night as the lifeless body of a four-year-old girl, found stuffed inside a septic tank, seven days after she was reported missing.
Little Radia Akhter Ruhi had been visiting her paternal grandmother’s house when she vanished without a trace on May 24.
Her disappearance plunged the family into uncertainty and fear. A general diary was filed at Kalai Police Station by her mother, Arjen Akhter, sparking a frantic search.
Days passed, but there was no sign of Ruhi — until Friday night, when police, acting on leads from their investigation, pried open the lid of the toilet’s septic tank at the same house. Inside, they found her tiny body, wrapped in a sack.
Youth stabbed to death in Khulna
“She was found in her paternal grandmother’s house, the very place she had come to visit,” said officer-in-charge Zahid Hossain of Kalai Police Station, his voice heavy with emotion. “We recovered the body and made four arrests in connection with the case.”
Among those arrested are Ruhi’s father, Abdur Rahman; her stepmother, Sonia Akhter; her uncle, Roni Mia; and Sonia’s father, Zia Kashai. The motive behind the alleged crime remains under investigation.
Ruhi was the child of Abdur Rahman’s first marriage. Following his separation from Arjen Akhter, the young girl had been living with her mother at her maternal grandmother’s home, not far from where her life was so brutally cut short.
Neighbours in the village, now gripped by shock and sorrow, struggle to make sense of the tragedy. “She was just a child. How could anyone do this to her?” one resident said.

Two die in Joypurhat road accident
Two people died and two others injured in a head-on collision between a private car and a battery-run passenger van in Khalai upazila of Joypurhat on Wednesday.
The accident happened on the Joypurhat-Bogura highway in the Basher Bridge area of the upazila in the afternoon, said Officer-in-Charge Zahid Hossain of Kalai Police Station.
The deceased were identified as van passengers Mofazzal Hossain Mondal (39) and Idris Ali (61). Both were residents of Bhugoil village of the upazila, he said.
The injured were identified as the van driver Nurul Islam Akand and passenger Ashraf Ali from Burail village.
After the incident, an angry mob detained the private car owner, but the driver fled the scene, the police official said.
Passengers suffer in Naogaon as motor workers suspend bus services
According to eyewitnesses and police, the van carrying four to five passengers was heading towards Punot Bazar around 3pm when it collided head-on with a speeding private car in the Basher Bridge area.
Locals rescued the injured and rushed them to the Kalai Upazila Health Complex, where doctors referred them to Bogura’s Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital due to their critical condition.
The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families, as they did not want to file any complaint, and the car owner was also released, added the police official.

Two siblings jailed for killing man in Joypurhat
A Joypurhat court on Wednesday sentenced two brothers to life term imprisonment for killing a man in Kalandpur village under Panchbibi upazila of the district in 2005.
They are - Md. Anisur Rahman and Md. Nazrul Islam, sons of Ofir Uddin of Kalandpur village of the upazila.

Police arrest three over sabotage incidents targeting trains in Joypurhat
According to the prosecution, Quddus was married to Sheola Khatun, daughter of Sirajul Islam of Atul village of Panchbibi upazila. On the night of November 20, 2005, Sheola Khatun got into a quarrel with Quddus and she called the accused. At one stage, the accused hit Quddus with sticks and local weapons, leaving Quddus dead on the spot.
Later, a case was filed at Panchbibi Police Station following a complaint lodged by the victim's elder brother Lutfar Rahman.

Wife slaughtered by husband in Joypurhat
A 31-year-old woman was slaughtered by her husband over a family dispute on Tuesday night in Akkelpur Upazila of Joypurhat district.
The deceased was identified as Panna Begum, 31, wife of Sirajul Islam, resident of Gudumba-Purbapara village of Akkelpur Upazila.
Jaipurhat Superintendent of Police Mohammad Noore Alam confirmed the matter.
The Superintendent of Police said that the husband and wife often quarrel over family disputes and not having any children.
Following an argument, Sirajul Islam slaughtered Panna Begum on Tuesday night and went to the mosque quietly with other worshipers of the village to perform Shab-e-Barat prayers, leaving the body on the floor.
An hour later, he returned from the mosque and started screaming, pretending to be surprised to see the bloodied body of his wife, said the SP.
Panna Begum’s father Anwar Hossain filed a case with Akkelpur Police Station in this regard.
Police arrested Sirajul Islam with three others in this incident on Tuesday night and he confessed to killing his wife brutally in police interrogation.

Man to die for killing pregnant wife in Joypurhat
A Joypurhat court on Tuesday convicted a man and sentenced him to death for killing his pregnant wife in 2007.
The condemned convict is identified as Jewel Hossain, son of Jalil Hossain of Khetlal upazila in the district.
Judge of the Additional district and Session Judge Court-2, Abbas Uddin pronounced the punishment. The court also fined him Tk 50,000.According to the prosecution, Jewel used to torture his wife Laili Begum for dowry.
On July 23, 2007, the couple picked up a quarrel over the issue and at one stage, Jewel strangulated his s wife to death after torture when she was seven-month pregnant.

Rabeya Khatun, sister of Laili lodged a complaint against Jewel and Jewel’s parents with Khetlal Police.
Police registered a murder case in this connection later.
After examining records and witnesses, the court handed down the punishment and acquitted Jewel’s father and mother Lili Begum, as allegations brought against them could not be proved.

One dead, 2 injured in motorcycle, bicycle crash in Joypurhat
One person was killed and two others were injured in a crash involving a motorcycle and a bicycle on the Joypurhat-Bogura highway in Thushi Gari Mor area of Joypurhat's Kalai upazila.
The deceased, Mahfuzur Rahman, 41, was the son of Ibrahim Hossain of Madai village in Kalai upazila’s Punat union.The injured are Ariful, 24, nephew of the dead biker, and Mukul Hossain, the cyclist.

The accident happened at around 7 pm on Saturday.
Mahfuzur and his nephew were on their way to Kalai Sadar upazila when their motorbike collided with a bicycle in the Thushi Gari Mor area, said Moinuddin, officer-in-charge of Kalai police station.
The accident left the biker dead on spot.
Locals rescued the injured and rushed them to Kalai Upazila Health Complex.The cyclist was transferred to Joypurhat District Modern Hospital in critical condition.

Truck-auto-rickshaw collision leaves five dead in Joypurhat-
Five people were killed and one was injured in a collision between a truck and a CNG run auto-rickshaw at Malipara in Khetlal Upazila of Joypurhat district on Monday morning.
The deceases were identified as Nafis Hossain, Nafis Hossain, 18, a HSC 1st year student of Govt. Sayeed Altafunnesa College and a resident of Sakharunj Chowdhuripara area, Amzad Hossain, 42, the auto-rickshaw driver and resident of Itakhola Bazar of Khetlal upazila, Shahnaz Parvin, 45, a resident of Khaddogudam area of same upazila, Shahinur Akter, 38, field staff of Khetlal Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) office and Sirajul Islam, a resident of Dhamoirhat upazila of Naogaon district.
Razibul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Khetlal Police Station, said the auto-rickshaw carrying five passengers collided with the truck coming from the opposite direction, leaving two died on the spot.
The rest were rushed to a local hospital where three others succumbed to their their injuries, said the OC.

Joypurhat: Bodies of 2 missing youths recovered from Chhoto Jamuna river
The bodies of two youths were recovered from the Chhoto Jamuna river of Joypurhat on Thursday morning, some 20 hours after they went missing.
The deceased were identified as Sanjit Bashfor, 23, and Tonmoy Rajak, 17, both residents of the Rail Station Road area of Joypurhat town. Shanjit was a student of Open University while Tonmoy studied in Kashiabari High School of the town.
Fire service divers fished out the bodies from the river, 100 metres away from the Chak Shyam Ghat area, around 10am during a rescue drive, said Joypurhat Civil Defence and Fire Service Warehouse inspector Mohiuddin.
On Wednesday, the duo went missing in the river in the Chak Shyam Ghat area during the immersion of the idol of Goddess Kali.
On information, divers from the fire service and civil defence rushed to the spot and started a rescue operation, said inspector Mohiuddin.

Woman hacked dead in Joypurhat
A 44-year old woman has been hacked to death in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat district .
The deceased was identified as Shipan Akhter, wife of Tojam Sarker of Duhil-Napara village of the upazila.
Police said Tojam found her wife’s throat-slit body in her room Saturday morning and informed police.

Locals suspected that she might have been killed following previous enmity over a piece of land.
Officer-in-Charge of Kalai Police Station Moinul Hossain said that the body was sent to Joypurhat District Hospital for autopsy.
Those involved in the murder would be identified and arrested soon, he said
