Ward Councillor fined for breaching electoral code in Sitakunda
A mobile court on Sunday fined Didarul Alam Apello, Ward Councilor of Chattogram's Sitakunda municipality, Tk 5000 for violating the electoral code of conduct.Md Alauddin, assistant commissioner (Land) and executive magistrate of the mobile court, slapped the penalty.According to mobile court sources, he was fined for miking in favour of AL candidate SM Al Mamun in front of the upazila complex, which is a violation of electoral code."No one will be spared for breaching the code of conduct and this kind of operation will continue until the polling day to conduct and complete the election properly,” said Executive Magistrate Mohammad Alauddin.

'Abandoned' wife of councillor commits suicide in N’ganj
The wife of a councillor of No 3 ward of Narayanganj City Corporation committed suicide by jumping off the roof of a building at Chashara Balur Math in Narayanganj on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Sadia Nijhu, 1st wife of Councillor Shahajalal Badal.
Anisur Rahman Molla, officer-in-charge of Sadar Model Police Station, said Sadia used to live with her mother as Councillor Badal abandoned her after his second marriage.
Sadia jumped off the seven-storey building in the morning.

Later, she was taken to Narayanganj General Hospital where the doctors declared her dead.
However, the phone number of Councillor Badal was found switched off.
On February 8, 2022, Sadia in a press briefing at her residence alleged that Councillor Badal 'abandoned' her and married another woman without taking permission from Sadia.
According to the allegation of Sadia, she married to Badal in 2007 and the couple has been blessed with a child through IVF (In vitro fertilization).
Besides, Badal is the nephew of Nur Hossain, a death row convict in the sensational Narayanganj seven-murder case.

Barishal ward councillor arrested on rape charges
A ward councillor was arrested in a case filed over rape of a woman at Mogorpara area of Kashimpur on Thursday.
The arrestee was identified as Azad Hossain Molla Kalam, councillor of Barishal City Corporation's 30th ward.
Promising to marry the victim, Kalam raped her several times, said officer-in-charge of Barishal Airport Police Station, Komolesh Chandra Halder.

On Thursday, he raped her again. After this, the victim pressured Kalam to marry her but Kalam.
However, a police complaint was lodged on Friday afternoon alleging rape, OC Halder said.
Based on complaint, Kalam, also the president of Barishal District Truck Workers Union, was arrested from Bakerganj on Friday evening, said sub-inspector Saidul Islam.

Meanwhile, the woman was taken to the OCC of Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital from the Victim Support Center of Barishal Metropolitan Police for medical treatment and examination.

Cumilla councillor murder: arrestee makes confessional statement before court
One of the arrestees in the Cumilla ward councillor Syed Mohammad Sohel murder case gave his confessional statement on Thursday.
Accused Emran Hossain Rishat, 23, a member of the killing squad gave his confessional statement before Cumilla Chief Judicial Magistrate Trial Court-1 judge Farhana Akter.
During his three-day remand, Rishat agreed to record his confessional statement, said Parimal Das, deputy inspector of detective branch of the district police.
Rishat, in his statement, confessed that he participated in the killing and supplied arms for the mission, said Parimal.

Earlier on Monday, police arrested Nazim and Rishat, two of the suspected hit squad members who were not named as accused in the case.
On Tuesday, a Cumilla court placed them on a three-day remand each for interrogation and the next day Nazim gave his confessional statement before the magistrate.
On November 22, Sohel, Cumilla City Corporation (CCC) councilor of Ward-17, and one of his aides were killed, while four others sustained injuries when gunmen opened fire in his office in Pathuariapara.
Based on his younger brother Syed Rumon's complaint, as many as 21 people, some 10 of them unidentified, were booked by the Kotwali police for the double murder.

So far, seven accused and four suspects were arrested in this case, while another accused Rony remains absconding.
Meanwhile, prime accused Shah Alam, Sabbir Hossain, Sajon Mia were killed in alleged gunfights with police.
