‘That Magura little girl finally blinks,’ says CA’s Deputy Press Secretary
The eight-year-old girl, who is now battling for her life in the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka opened her eyes for a while for the first time on Monday morning.
Her physical condition has, however, improved very slightly and doctors hope for further improvement within the next couple of days.
Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder informed about the little girl’s health condition, quoting doctors.
Briefing reporters at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital, Azad said the interim government is regularly monitoring the health condition of the girl from Magura.
Chief Adviser's Special Assistant Lieutenant General (retd.) Abdul Hafiz is in regular contact with doctors at the CMH, said the Deputy Press Secretary.
Hafiz also spoke to the doctors and they told him that the girl’s physical condition has improved slightly. However, oxygen supply to her brain has been disrupted due to respiratory problems. The girl had water in her brain and it has not been possible to remove it yet.

But the air that was trapped in her chest has been removed and doctors are hopeful that her health condition will improve somewhat in a day or two, Azad said.
Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum and Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter visited the CMH on Monday to look into the progress of the child’s health. They talked to doctors and gave necessary directives, Azad said.
She was initially admitted to Magura General Hospital and later transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital as her condition deteriorated. On Thursday, she was moved to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) before being shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka.
A Magura court on Monday midnight placed the main accused in a case over the rape of the girl on a seven-day remand and three others on a five-day remand each.

Those remanded are prime accused Hitu Sheikh, 50, father-in-law of the victim’s elder sister, his wife Zayeda Khatun, and their two sons- Sajib Sheikh and Ratul Sheikh, of Nijnanduali village in Magura’s Sadar upazila.

Magura child rapist to be brought to justice: Home Adviser
The government is committed to ensuring that the perpetrator of child rape in Magura do not escape justice, said Home Affairs Adviser Lt. General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Sunday.
He made the remark while visiting the victim undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on Sunday.
A case was filed with Magura Sadar police station and all four accused were arrested in this connection, he said.
"I have directed the law enforcement agencies to take a tough stance against harassment and rape of women. I also directed the concerned to submit reports to the court after completing quick investigation by making a list of all the violence against women so far,” the home adviser said
He said the criminals involved in the recent incidents of rape will be brought to justice and punished strictly.

Jahangir also said that women will perform their duties fearlessly at home and outside and those who will try to obstruct them will be brought under law.
He said that everyone should be aware and vocal against violence against women. “Family, social and moral values should be nurtured.”
During the visit at the CMH, the adviser inquired about the child's treatment and instructed the hospital authorities to ensure the highest level of medical care.
Senior officials of CMH were also present.
Earlier, on March 6, upon learning about the incident, the adviser contacted the child's mother over the phone and assured her of the government's full support for the child's treatment.

Former finance minister Muhith doing better
The health condition of former finance minister AMA Muhith, now undergoing treatment at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital, has improved.
"Muhith Bhai is better than Tuesday. He is doing fine. His saturation is now 96. He ate dinner comfortably and is now trying to sleep," said his brother and Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen Wednesday night.

Muhith was admitted to CMH for better treatment after he had tested positive for Covid-19.
The 87-year-old took two doses of the Covid vaccine.
Dr Momen said his brother wathched Bangladesh-Australia T20 cricket match and requested all to avoid any false news about him.

Ex-law minister Abdul Matin Khasru dies
Former law minister and valiant Freedom Fighter Abdul Matin Khasru passed away on Wednesday afternoon at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. He was 72.
His personal assistant Advocate Md Mohin said the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president breathed his last at 4:45pm.
Khasru was put on life support on Tuesday as his condition deteriorated.
He had been receiving treatment at the CMH since March 16, the day he tested positive for Covid-19.
Towards the end of March, and right at the beginning of April, Khasru seemed on the road to recovery. He was out of the ICU, and a Covid-19 test result came out negative on April 1.
But his physical condition started worsening after that, and on April 6, he had to be shifted back to the ICU.
The freedom fighter is survived by his wife and two children.
Born on February 12, 1950, Khasru was a five-time MP for Cumilla-5 (Brahmanpara-Burichang) constituency. He served as the law minister during the Awami League-led government of 1996-2001.
He was elected president of SCBA on March 16 this year.
‘An irreparable loss’: PM leads tribute
Tributes poured in for the valiant freedom fighter as the news of his death spread.
Cabinet members, including Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, Law Minister Anisul Huq, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Railways Minister M Nurul Islam Sujan and Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, expressed deep shock at the demise of the Awami League presidium member.
In a condolence message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina described Khasru “as a learned lawyer and leader of the mass people” and said he would live forever in the heart of the people.
“We lost a public leader and a solider of Bangabandhu’s ideology who worked skillfully in establishing justice through playing a responsible role as a lawyer in various nationally important cases including Bangabandhu murder case,” she said.
She prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
Foreign Minister Momen said the nation has lost one of its most prominent lawyers.
“The nation will forever commemorate the contribution of this five-time MP,” he said.
Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh described Khasru as a “bright star” in the legal field.
“He was an ideal lawyer [and] an exemplary leader for the lawyers. His death is an irreparable loss for the legal arena and the country,” Taposh said in a statement.

Ex-law minister Abdul Matin Khasru on life support
Former law minister and current president of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Abdul Matin Khasru was put on life support at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on Tuesday as his condition deteriorated.
His nephew Taslim khan, also a lawyer, confirmed the development to the media, asking everyone to pray for the quick recovery of his uncle.
Barrister Ruhul Kuddus Kajol, newly elected general secretary of SCBA said that Khasru was put on life support as his condition worsened due to low blood pressure.
Abdul Matin Khasru has been receiving treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka since March 16, the day he tested positive for Covid-19 from a sample taken the day before.
