Vehicular movement in Dhaka Cantonment is restricted today (Thursday), in observance of Armed Forces Day. According to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the primary road from Shaheed Jahangir Gate to Staff Road will have limited access from 7:00 am to 11:00 am and 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Only vehicles carrying residents of the cantonment and invited guests will be allowed during these hours. All other vehicles are requested to avoid the area during the specified times to ensure smooth execution of the day’s events. Honouring the Armed Forces The day began with special prayers at mosques within army cantonments, naval bases, and air force establishments across the country, seeking blessings for national prosperity, the progress of the Armed Forces, and the departed souls of freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives in the 1971 Liberation War. President Md Sahabuddin and Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, in their messages, paid tributes to the Armed Forces for their contributions to the nation. They laid wreaths at the Shikha Anirban in Dhaka Cantonment to honour the martyrs. The Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hasan, and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmud Khan also placed wreaths on behalf of their respective forces. Celebrations Across the Nation A reception hosted by the Chief Adviser at the Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment will recognise gallantry award recipients and their families. The event will include speeches, the distribution of commemorative gifts, and interaction between distinguished guests, including members of the judiciary, senior civil and military officials, foreign diplomats, and renowned personalities. Later in the afternoon, a formal reception will be held at the Senakunja in Dhaka Cantonment to be broadcast live by Bangladesh Television. Armed Forces Day to be observed Thursday Similar receptions are planned at cantonments in Barishal, Cox's Bazar, Bogura, Sylhet, Ghatail, Chattogram, Jashore, Rangpur, and Khulna under the respective area headquarters. Specially decorated naval vessels in Dhaka, Khulna, Chandpur, Barishal, and Chattogram will remain open to the public from 2:00 pm to sunset. Besides, the Armed Forces Day is marked by essay and art competitions at military-run educational institutions. The Armed Forces Day is celebrated with enthusiasm and reverence across Bangladesh, reflecting the nation’s pride in its military forces.  

Traffic movement on the Dhaka’s busy Mirpur road resumed after students of Mohammadpur Residential School and College removed the blockade road upon assurance from the authorities concerned of meeting their demands soon.     Ali Iftekhar Hasan, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur model police station, said the traffic movement resumed around 11am.   Traffic movement on Mirpur road resumes after half an hour Earlier, students blocked the road demanding the admission of students to the institution on the basis of merit, police said. Breaking open the entrance gate, the students took to the street, causing gridlock on both sides of the road around 10:30 am. Earlier, the students campaigned online in support of their demands and carried out the blockade as scheduled.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday paid tribute to the martyred members of Bangladesh Armed Forces on the occasion of Armed Forces Day-2022. The prime minister paid homage by placing a wreath at the Shikha Anirban (flame eternal) in Dhaka Cantonment this morning. Read more: Armed Forces Day to be observed Monday After laying the wreath, she stood in solemn silence for some time to show profound respect to the memories of the armed forces martyrs, who made supreme sacrifices during the Liberation War. A smartly-turned out contingent drawn from Army, Navy and Air Force presented a guard of honour at that time, while the bugle played the last post. Later, Sheikh Hasina, also in-charge of the Ministry of Defence, signed the visitors' book kept on the premises of Shikha Anirban. PM's Security Adviser Major General (rtd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique was present on the occasion. Earlier, on her arrival at Shikha Anirban, the prime minister was received by chiefs of the three services. After placing the wreath, the prime minister went to the Armed Forces Division (AFD) where the chiefs of the three services made a courtesy call on her. After the independence of the country, this historic day is being observed as the Armed Forces Day every year.

Traffic movement will remain restricted inside the Dhaka Cantonment area on Monday due to observance of the ‘Armed Forces Day 2022’. The movement will be restricted in the area from 7am to 11am and 12pm to 7pm, according to a notification from the Inter Service Public Relation Directorate (ISPR) issued on November 16. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said the Independence earned through the collective contributions and efforts of all will never go in vain. "The independence that we achieved through the collective efforts of all must not fail," she said while addressing a reception at the Army Multipurpose Complex at Dhaka Cantonment. She joined the programme virtually from her official residence Ganobhaban. The prime minister accorded the reception to the successors of Bir Sreshthas and other gallantry award-recipient freedom fighters on the occasion of the Armed Forces Day-2021. She also distributed the highest medals for peace time among the recipients among the armed forces members for 2020-21. The Military Police (MP) unit on Tuesday distributed relief among the workless, distressed and underprivileged people to survive the pandemic. The relief was distributed under the management of PS section under AG department, reads an Inter Service public relations (ISPR) press release.

Visiting Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane made a courtesy call on Bangladesh Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed at the Army Headquarters of Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday. During the meeting, they discussed various issues related to the existing good relations between the armed forces of the two countries and mutual cooperation in the future. Issues related to the implementation of the Border Road Organization, training of Army pilots, exchange of defense experts and trainers, mutual defense cooperation got priority during the discussion, says an Inter Service Public Relation (ISPR) media release. Then General Naravane planted  a sapling at Senakunja. Indian Army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane arrived in Dhaka on Thursday on a five-day visit. The Indian Army chief is accompanied by his wife Veena Naravane and a two-member delegation.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday urged all to protect this society from militancy, terrorism, corruption and drug to utilise the latent and strengthen of the young generation for the development of the country.
