Woman arrested for arson in Dhaka's Bangshal
Police have arrested a woman for allegedly setting fire to a shoe factory in the Ganguli Lane area of Dhaka's Bangshal.
The arrestee, identified as Asma Begum (28), was caught red-handed while attempting to ignite a shoe factory. She was detained with a gas lighter at around 10:30 am, police said.
The fire broke out on the balcony of the second-floor room of Sanjid Shoe Factory, causing damages worth an estimated Tk 10 lakh. The blaze was brought under control by local residents and firefighters, said Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Talebur Rahman.

“Shortly after the fire, Asma Begum was found attempting to set fire to another factory in the vicinity. She was detained with the help of locals,” Talebur Rahman said, adding that four accomplices—identified as Rocky, Nipuni Begum, Sumon, and Al Amin—managed to flee the scene.
Police have filed a case against Asma, her four accomplices, and 10-15 unidentified individuals for their alleged involvement in the arson.

During primary interrogation, Asma admitted to being part of a premeditated plan to cause damage to the factory.
Efforts are underway to arrest the other suspects involved in the incident, police said.

5 alleged dealers apprehended by DB in Bangshal
Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested five alleged drug dealers from Bangshal area in the city and recovered 14,000 pieces of contraband yaba pills from their possession on early Tuesday.
The arrestees were identified as Nadim Mahmud, Md. Imran Hossain, Md. Sabuj Hawlader, Md. Mehedi Hasan and Md. Jamal Uddin.

Based on secret information, a team of Organized Crime and Car Theft Prevention Team of DB (Lalbagh Division) conducted a driver at Siddique Bazar of Bangshal at around 2:35 am and arrested the five alleged drug dealers, said Assistant Commissioner (AC) of DB (Lalbagh division) Madhusudan Das.
A total of 14,000 pieces yaba tablets and a private car, which was used in transporting the yaba consignments, were also recovered from the possession of the arrested five drug dealers, he said.
The detectives had information that some drug dealers were selling yaba in a private car on North South Road of Shaheed Nazrul Islam Sarani in Siddique Bazar area under Bangshal Police Station. Based on the secret information, Nadeem, Imran, Sabuj, Mehedi and Jamal were arrested while they were trying to escape after sensing the presence of police during the operation.

During the preliminary interrogation, Madhusudan said the arrestees revealed that they used to collect yaba from the border area of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar district and sell those contraband tablets in different areas including Dhaka metropolitan city.
A case was registered with the Bangshal police station under Narcotics Control Act, the AC added.
